Awesome video review! I am looking for something like the Red Sea Reefer series but will have the tank in my office. Outside of the overflow noise you discuss, do you feel that the stand quells much of the noise from the protein skimmer and pump? Your video seemed very quiet, but you may have used a microphone. Thanks for providing such a thorough review! A+!
@MyFirstFishTank7 жыл бұрын
Good question for sure. The tank definitely mutes the noise, but a lot of it is going to depend on you. If you have hard plastic tubing vs. silicone which is more quiet. Are your pumps touching the glass causing vibrations to radiate out? I find the tank to have a pleasant white noise sound, but sometimes the vibrations can get a bit much and I have to readjust my equipment in the sump.

This tank advertises in its video as complete. You installed a few items more. The way it arrived was not adequate? Since I've only owned freshwater, will this tank help me learn reef tanks? How much more will I have to spend to have a setup to yours? Thanks Jeremy
@MyFirstFishTank5 жыл бұрын
Hey There. The Reefer series comes with tank, stand, sump, and plumbing, but you have to supply the lights, pumps, and other equipment. So it is not really an all-in-one system. Check out this system from waterbox. They are a newer company but I think this would be a great tank for a beginner! www.waterboxaquariums.com/product/waterbox-silver-marine-aio-30-2-plus/ref/18/

I have a chance to buy Red Sea 170 on marketplace, it would be my first saltwater tank, would it be good for a beginner?

Nice vid mate ,,,, I got sick and tired of the sump in my 170 so after 4 months I decided to have the lot out and mod it my self , I cut out ALL the standard baffles and added my own ,, I now have a refugium in mine as well as space for skimmer and reactors ,, best move I've made by far so far on the tank , video of the whole tank and sump coming up soon
@MyFirstFishTank8 жыл бұрын
+reef roid Do you have any pictures of the final result? I had not even thought about that, but now I'm definitely thinking of completely removing the sump and getting one custom made. I would love to see what you did!

Great video, I love the scape, it looks great. I would agree with you regarding the down flow control value, only tiny adjustments are needed. I check the overflow level everyday and have to adjust every other day. The rear panel of the tank is glass wrapped in Black vinyl and the weir box is made from smoked glass. Cheers

+Tall Col That makes a lot of sense! You definitely know your tank better than i do! What do you think of the sump? Have you made any mods on it?
@brodie25118 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Zahler The sump on the 250 is also very small. I feel your pain regarding space in the sump and I definitely feel your pain with the top off tank. I haven't done any mods to the sump its self but I am also thinking of turning the top off tank into a refugium. Have you watched " Wai Yin Wong's "video
@RogueAquariums8 жыл бұрын
nice video Matthew. good job of maximizing your equipment w/the limited amount of space you have. the sump is the only thing I personally would like to change.
@MyFirstFishTank8 жыл бұрын
+NW Marine62 Agreed! I might actually purchase a custom sump in the future, that includes space for a small refugium. But that is not in the budget right now!

do you have moist or high humidity built up inside the sump cabinet?
@MyFirstFishTank7 жыл бұрын
Good question, but I would say virtually no humidity. I have never seen any sort of condensation in the sump area. I live in a low humidity area (Seattle), so it is an issue we just don't struggle with.

Would two kessil a80 be enough for a reefer 170?
@MyFirstFishTank4 жыл бұрын
I think so, but you might just want to go with this one instead. It costs a bit more, but good coverage and you can control it via your phone. www.marinedepot.com/partners/idevaffiliate.php?id=102&url=2200

This did not come with a skimmer right ?
@MyFirstFishTank5 жыл бұрын
Snapback_BR correct, but this was a while ago and they now are producing their own skimmers so I’m not currently sure. My guess is that you’ll be able to purchase one of their skimmers as an add on.

Good honest review man... Tank looks great but seems like it's more for new hobbiest. I would prefer more control over the size and type of sump... With the clean design of the tank I self... Great info go any future tank I may get

+CJ'S AQUARIUMS Thanks CJ. I think what I might do in the future is just completely get rid of the sump, and custom order something that suits my needs more. And thanks for the videos on your filming techniques! Really helpful stuff!

Why doesn't the tank support the whole tank? It looks like the front glass is hanging
@MyFirstFishTank8 жыл бұрын
+Chris Mcman You are absolutely right! So, the stand and tank are definitely going for the modern look. Basically, with the stand door closed, it sits flush with the cabinet. So the tank, with the doors closed, sits completely flush. Looks pretty slick actually!

@MyFirstFishTank6 жыл бұрын
Hi Evan. Good question. The Reefer's are expensive, upwards of $1,000. It is a nice tank for sure, but you can get a lot more for your money with other brands. Check out Fluval, JBJ. I would go with Red Sea if you had a big plan for customizing your equipment. Regarding your Watt question, I can't answer that because it depends on the equipment you buy. Good luck.

Hi! How often do you have to fill the RO top off? 3 days?
@MyFirstFishTank8 жыл бұрын
+Outdoor Ben Let's see. I no longer use the 1.5 gallon RO container that came with the system. I was getting about 2 days with it. I now have a ten gallon tub that I use, and that last a week and a half.

Good review! Everything is spot on. Getting the overflow dialed in was the toughest task when setting this up. I'd suggest a hang on reactor like the Aquamaxx or TLF reactors. I have two Aquamaxx ones and they work great and look really clean. Check out my second video if you have a minute. I love these tanks! ;)
@MyFirstFishTank8 жыл бұрын
+Jayson Milsten I'm going to check out your videos right now. I haven't really thought about any hang on reactors because I figured they would mess with the aesthetic, but I'll take a look at yours and see how they look!

The weir inside the tank is a nuisance. I can't understand how Red Sea could have failed at that. It decreases the room available. On the sides of the weir there're left wasted areas.
@MyFirstFishTank6 жыл бұрын
That's true that the weir does take up space, but it allows for a bit more of a flush mount against your wall. But I definitely prefer lower profile overflow! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@go43847 жыл бұрын
Boy, for a tank this expensive that dirty back side is quite unappealing. I get the improvement of being able to back it up to the wall, but if it comes at the expense of a dirty inside, not sure myself.
