Chelsea is super cute, but I don't like how a lot of them have painted-on clothes, and I never understood why Mattel switched Kelly out for Chelsea, or rather why they changed her name. I remember the Kelly Club - there were probably 50 different dolls yo could collect in different themes. :D They were, however, smaller/shorter. I think Chelsea is meant to be older than Kelly. Kind of like how Stacie looks more like a teenager than an eight-year-old.

I know this a really late reply, but supposedly the reason why Kelly was exchanged for Chelsea was because Chelsea was a more internationally accepted name. Kelly's name actually became Shelly in Europe, but Chelsea stayed as Chelsea. As for the painted and molded on clothes, I really didn't like them at first either, but then I finally broke down and bought all the Chelsea Club or Club Chelsea or whichever way it goes that my local store had (we don't have the little African American girl or the boy that's also part of this group at my local store yet). The molded on clothes actually hide really well under most Chelsea sized clothes. Even the ones with raised details can be hidden with minor adjustments. I think the main reason they're there is to lower the chances of the clothes getting lost. Kids are less likely to take them off if the only thing they can remove is the skirt or shorts, so there are probably a lot fewer parents constantly frustrated by having to by more dolls or clothes just because little Sally lost Chelsea's shirt. I really wish they'd off fashion packs for the sisters like they used to, though . . .

Goodness, I remember when Kelly was Barbie's youngest sister. I owned everything Kelly, I had her playhouse and Jeep that moved around. She was my favorite Barbie doll and all her friends, I had so many. I always wondered why they replaced her with Chelsea. But I do like the new lines of Barbie's sisters too. I don't have any of my Barbie stuff anymore though, ran out of space to keep it and felt it was time to move on. I gave it away to a family, the mother needed presents for her daughter for Christmas and she cried as my mom helped her pack it into her car. It felt good to help out a family like that.

I kind of wish they had kept Kelly AND Chelsea instead of swapping the two. But I guess Barbie already technically has so many siblings, its a wonder how their parents took care of them all . . . To date we've had Skipper, Stacie (who was named Kelly in the Wedding Day set she was initially released in, which only adds to the confusion), Stacie's twin brother Todd, Chelsea, Kelly, Tutti, Tutti's twin brother Todd (yes, there were two Todd's), and Krissy. And then there's her cousins, Francie, Jazzie, and the newest additions Max and Marie who are super hard to find. Apparently, the Roberts clan believes in big families. (On a side note, anybody know of a place to buy Max and Marie, or know of anyone willing to part with them?)
