OBDII to Ethernet

Crimping a RJ-45 connector to a OBDII cable can be tricky sometimes, but i show here how it is done. Just in case you are one of the lucky ones that want to connect a car to their laptop.

For a F or G series BMW, you cannot If you simply solder the green and red wires from the OBD2 cable together, you need a resistor between those two wires with a value of between 506 and 560 Ohms as this will tell the car what protocal you are connecting to the car with i.e. Ethernet

When you need to access the vehicles control modules with a laptop. Like tuning for example, or diagnosing issues.

I found a scanner that have a Ethernet on the bottom. I’m not able to find available Bluetooth. Do you believe this would help?

not sure about that. What does the manual of the scanner say?

Why are you stripping the cables before putting them in the RJ45 connector? You're cutting the end off anyway... Also: There are very few cars that have an Ethernet network exposed on the OBD2 port (BMW is one them), so make sure your car has it, otherwise you might fry your laptop's Ethernet port if there's something else on those pins.

The wire insulation was a little to thick to fit into the CAT6 connector, it was pretty tight in the hole.

I was thinking of doing this to use in a BMW. Didn't really understand what u said; can u explain pls?
