College can be rough when your kids aren’t close but it’s so fun to visit them and when they come home. I found it was time to focus a little on me. Relaxation, organizing, self care, as you say “all the things :-)” you got this!

Melissa, regarding your beautiful children going to college, I have been through it with my three children. You are right, that you will feel real loss,but try not to make your pain be your new identity. It will hinder their joy and excitement of this new chapter. What you’re feeling is so real and you will HAVE to replace their absence with something new. (I happened to lose my mother to cancer during this time and my heart lead me to start volunteering at our local hospice home.) I’m not sure what this will look like for you, but just keep an open mind to what God has in store for this next chapter. Your family is awesome. And you’ve done a beautiful job with your kids. Mama you got this, I promise you do! We spend our entire lives raising our children for the very moment you are about to experience. You and Sam have given both of your children a very strong and secure foundation and when you watch them soar, your heart will soar with them! God made our Mama hearts to expand beyond what we can even fathom because He knew we would need His strength when we are weak and watching them leave the nest is one of those times, yet so rewarding to watch them focus on their own calling! My son is a junior in hs and my eldest married with kids and just keep in mind life can be exciting still. We can volunteer which adds so much goodness and purpose and we can open our lives to foster, adopt, or exchange students- I have done fostering and 10 exchange students. Then of course there is the hope of grandchildren. It will be ok.

It is very hard when your children go away to college. I’ve had two daughter and two granddaughters leave the nest I am thankful they were able to go out in the world on their own. Children know their way back home when they need Mom. Even at 45 and 49🥰. My salvation was Jeremiah 29:11 and I have carried that in my wallet since 1974. It is easier when you know you have done everything you can to prepare them. You have gone a step beyond that. You have taught your children Faith in our Lord. 🙏Cry all the tears you want! It’s fine!!❤

Chloe and Christian are so cute. I just can’t believe where the time is going. It seems like just yesterday when they were little and would come sit at the bar for breakfast or be doing home work. Oh my gosh, Melissa, I feel so old. Oh, I remember when my boys were little and they wanted to go play in the snow and it would take forever to get the hats, gloves, coats and boots on and they would only be outside for 5 minutes. lol🫒

I only have one child, a daughter. She is now 39 years old. I remember the stress I felt when she left for university. This was what I finally resolved for myself. “You have spent 18 years trying to raise a productivity, well adjusted adult, don’t be unhappy when they become one”. You will have to adjust and feel a lot of emotion but you will make it through. Lean on the Lord for your strength, he will meet you there.
