Mr Mike I too am a PI lover but!!! But a new easier more reliable build is the B-Max with x86 Volumio flasd built-in SSD+ music on USB 3 or network and its easy to make a 12 volt linear power supply al can connect to that screen 1. The bios give better thermal management. 2. Faster reliable boots consistently. 3. Lower current draw 2_amps But I will try the PI5 because of better thermals in documentation. ( Sound Quality is equal to the PI had previous advantage SQ when you could connect it to low noise power)

Great except it’s a maintenance nightmare and there’s no software on the pi that works with Apple Music. I gave up on dead end solutions like Slim and Plex a long time ago. Managing a local library just takes way too much time - and I did it for 20 years

You can just pay for Roon, if you like to keep a personal music collection, which I do. I've been too cheap to pay for it though, I use Logitech Media Server for my audio. It's not that high maintenance, I just rip the audio off a CD, and it collects the metadata basically then and there. It's a hobby. But with Roon you get a lot done for you and you get a lot more information about the media.
@espressomatic Жыл бұрын
@@KimmoJaskari Slim *IS* Logitech Media Server. I was using that from the early 2000's until about 2016. I don't have time to manage my music collection any more, so the expense of a streaming service is well worth it to me. I can't be bothered with any player or player UI that doesn't support the service I use.

Put a digital output card on the Pi, like a Hifiberry Digi2 Pro, and it just transmits digital data to a DAC or a receiver, anything with digital input. Perfect audio, basically. The Pi does nothing more than send the data from point A to point B.
@audioarkitekts Жыл бұрын
Using a USB out it will transmit whatever file in whatever quality it’s playing at. At this point it depends on the DAC you’re using. Most will suggest a dac hat that sits on top of the pi. I always like an external dac personally.

Would appreciate and feel grateful to maybe have a discussion about building a solution for Wi-Fi streamers having optical out, 3.5 MM jacks, and an HDMI arc for old speakers that can be converted or utilise in a centralised home system. This is a problem that I have been trying to solve, and I did not find anything under US$120 to fix this challenge. In India, this seems to be a major challenge or a problem that can be solved.
