Singers with a powerful voice, there are hundreds of thousands in the world. Mylene has not a powerful voice, but you have only one Mylene, She is unique. And I'm certain that you are agree with me about that. OMG, I love so much the dark Mylene. She sang Allan just once in 1989. I hope she will sing this song in 2023.

Mylène was so inspiring and influential in my own life back in the day, I worked on Edgar Allan Poe's short stories (such as Ligeia) for a whole university year and wrote an over 100-pages essay in English on the theme of "death, from the darkness of the tomb to God's light in Edgar Allan Poe's short stories" that I dedicated to Mylène, including the lyrics of the song, too. It was the most exciting year in my studies, in 1994. As a coincidence, I did the oral presentation of my research on the very day the first movie in which she acted, entitled Giorgino and directed by Laurent Boutonnat, came out in France. I could watch it in a movie theater near my university only a couple of hours after my oral presentation. An unforgettable day for me. That's why Allan will always sound and feel special to me, and hold a special place in my heart and memory, too. That brings me back!

Fiiiinally !! 😁 Thank you, thank you, thank you Dereck... been waiting forever for u to get to this one. This is definitely one of her most beautiful songs, everything about it is perfect. The bass, the synths, the organic sounds, the lyrics, her voice range, the rythm shifts... insane ! Love it ! Glad you did too 🙂

It's effectively a song about Edgar Allan Poe and his special atmosphere in his writings. We can see a picture of him at 3"30. ;) She also speaks of Ligeai in the lyrics, a character from one of his stories. Thanks a lot for all your reactions, always interesting !

Yes, Mylène loves Poe - and the French poet, Baudelaire, who translated his works into French. Lots of allusions to Poe's work in this song: "J’entends ton cœur fatigué" (I hear your tired heart ) (The Tell-Tale Heart), "Masque blâfard" (Sallow mask) (The Masque of the Red Death). She has a thing about ravens too. Seems to me that "Allan" belongs on the Nevermore 2023 set list!

This was her first tour, can you believe it was general admission! That wouldn't work today...! This is indeed about Edgar Allen Poe! And the imagery of her with her hair down watching the fire is use in her current concert poster - the tour called Nevermore! It's all coming full circle... One of her background singers was Carol Fredericks!

I hope you get this message as i would love you to react to an Australian ICON named John Farnham. He has the most amazing voice. He can sing absolutely any genre flawlessly. So many reactionaries on YOU TUBE have discovered John who is now 72 (same as myself!) and he has wowed fans for 50+ years and his voice is as good as ever..I am no good with this tech stuff but of you would look in You Tube for JOHN FARNHAM(silent H) singing HELP WITH MELBOURNE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. Help is a Beetles classic. John rearranged it abs sent a copy to John Lennon requesting permission to record it on his latest album. Lennon gave permission and said he wanted to sing it as our John had but the producers insisted it be sung as Lennon does his version. Lennon stated John knocked the song off the wall and he, Lennon, loved it. He also told John that he could never have sung as brilliant a version as our JOHN FARNHAM did and wished him well. Please hear and see our John perform it live. All his music has to be heard live. That's John at his flawless best.

Je trouve cela très triste ! i hope you have secured tickets for 2023 nevermore ! it is a stadium tour, which will not be comparable with the concerts in the bercy arena and the la defense because of the closed buildings, but it will certainly be a memorable experience! does anyone know why the ,,allan,,, video is not on the ,,en concert ,, video dvd ? I find this very sad !

More Mylène gothic songs (lyrics + music) : L'Annociation, Vieux bouc, Chloé, La Ronde triste, Jardin de Vienne, Agnus Dei, Il n'y a pas d'ailleurs... Many sogs of Mylène Farmer are under influence of the duet Charles Baudelaire- Edgar Allan Poe. I think the next, and for me, the last album of Mylène Farmer will go back gothic and these two authors... clues are given by the end of her last concert and the trailer of her next concert tour.
