Some more information about Mylar. A latex balloon filled with helium will be on the floor the next morning and a Mylar balloon filled with helium will still be on the ceiling and the reason is the helium molecule is smaller than the latex molecule so the helium will slip out of the sides of the latex balloons. But the mylar molecule is smaller than the helium molecule so therefore helium can’t escape so putting something in mylar is almost like putting it in a steel sealed container if it was done properly. Mylar will also pass the smell test if you had something that has a distinct odor it will not escape through the Mylar giving it away.

I did that and later found out it was only 3ml thick. I made sure whateveri bought after that was buy 5+ ml thick fter that. Because the first order ones, I filled a bag with rotini pasta. It was not overfilled at all. The pointy tips look like they poked through a lot and it didn't stay oxygen free . Only at first did it stay tight and deflated. Then it filled back up with air all over again.

What is the purpose of adding those tabs. I apologize if I missed something. My guess would be for the food saver to "detect" the presense of the bag? That is my guess because when I try to seal bags in my food saver, that are too small, I have to use a piece of paper to "trick" the machine ,to get it to start sectioning out the air. Because it is built with sensors inside that will not allow it to start sucking air out properly. It be nice to have your type that you can flip up and just place the bag end, right in it. Mine is a food saver brand,with the tubing attachment that can be used to suck out air in mason jars ,using the mason jar adapters. It will not flip up. I have to slide the bag inside the crack, and there are sensors in that crack. Let me know if my guess is correct or what was the point/reason of using those tabs on each end? Thanks so much.
@SurvivalTheory
@SurvivalTheory 3 жыл бұрын
I partially explained in video...but the tabs are the rough part of the saver bags. The roughness allows air to flow (vacuum out) between the layers when they are tight together in the machine. The food saver doesn't remove air very well when the material is smooth such as a typical mylar bag...sometimes a little air is sucked out and the smoothness of the material causes it to seal up. The rough tabs eliminate that from happening. I'm about to put out a quick tip video specifically about the tabs and partially sealing the mylar before using the vacuum sealer. @@Matthew_Australia Well it is understood that the lid will be put on the bucket after you have filled it. Alternatively, leave the lid on drill two holes in the lid and pump CO2 in through a hose to the bottom of the bucket in of the one holes, and let air and excess CO2 escape through the other lid. It does work, as I and many sailors use CO2 for preservation of food for long term (5 years +) on passages. It is extremely cost efficient. One example is kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5WVeJ1pmKl4ftE

I drink Community Coffee. It comes in a thick Mylar-type bag. 2 of those bags, 1 inside the other, will prevent electrical signals from getting to my cellphone/iPhone inside. Ala FaradayCage/bag ! However potato chip type of bags fail at stopping/blocking signals. Perhaps it is the thickness of the material, or quality, but the Community Coffee Bags seem to work. I’ve not shared this info before.

@@SurvivalTheory The good thing about mylar bags for Faraday cages is that they are an added insurance for your main Faraday cage (trash can, etc) which often leak EMR. The bags keep the item in a clean, dry, oxygen free environment along with "helping" to block EMR. Most people over estimate their Faraday cage. I find that 2 layers of separated metal are the minimum. This is easy to test: Throw a cell phone inside of your cage and call it. Grounding the outside cage helps as well. :)
