absolutely fantastic videos! I've started my adventure with modular a few weeks ago with VCV, with only barebones knowledge of sound synthesis and now I am able to brew some working compositions thanks o your channel. But the thing I adore the most are your "ah-ha" moments, when you are simply befuddled by the sound - those moments really show the love for sound and are priceless

Nicely done! Not sure if you stumbled onto my favorite trick with Tempi. If you are in the Mute (or SHIFT) edit page and you change the STATE selection, it does not actually take effect until you leave the Mute page. Amazingly useful live when you want to 'cue up' a STATE change and have it happen at the press of a button. Or, if a gate or CV is change through STATEs and you want it to hold onto a STATE temporarily.

Tempi is one of my next modules, I want it to control my Bitbox Mkii, which is en route to me now. (Marbles will do fine for the time being, but I don't just want the randomization - I want to completely change the speeds of different cells.) This tip looks like a hell of a good trick. Thank you. Once I get my tempi, I'll be back to this video for a refresher, so I'll see the comment again. Cheers

You really made me shiver in anticipation for that final ‘ace’ :-). Well done as always. However, I do find these overlays of functionality (or modes) more and more frustrating the more modules I have. It really becomes quite difficult to remember every key combination you need to actually access these features once you have more than a handful of such modules.

Thanks your videos are the clearest in forms of actually learning how to use a module and explaining what you are patching up where others talk too fast and do not explain things in such detail. Another one on use of the Expert Sleepers ES-3, ES6/7 with closer details on setting things up properly in your daw and so on would I am sure be very helpful to others as I think these modules are really great. I finally got it for the most part but really had to watch and rewatch sections of that video to finally work it all out. But I also hate you because you got me into this big modular mess and now I am buried with a lot of modules and so much still to learn. Getting there slowing but surely.

OMG! I always enjoy your reviews/tutorials/demos, whatever. But this one... "Human Programming...." "Mutes..." You had me laughing out loud while I learned a whole bunch of shit about this module, which I will be buying in a few months time. Edit, a few months later - Yep, this still looks like the best choice. The triplets at 6m30, slowed down by the tap tempo... I was about to pause the video to read the manual and see if it worked in odd numbers, then you did that. I'll still read to see how far that extends past triplets, if at all, but at least it does that. Can't wait to see what it can do with my Bitbox Mkii which is shipping to me now.

this is such a great module. this is such a great video. but there is ONE THING, that module sucks at. it DOES NOT SWING, worst, if you plug an external clock, that is shuffled (aka Swing), the Tempi does NOT follow, it even become crazy and doesn't like what you are injecting into him. Tempi hates to groove, I dare you to make Tempi swing from external clock, then I could love my Tempi again :)
@nairo_music

Sebastien Leger I think Pamela's New Workout can swing..
@333pand
@333pand 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed, great module and video! Tempi doesn’t swing because it measures the distance between two pulses to find the tempo (that’s why for instance it takes it a while longer to adjust from a fast to a slow tempo.....it has to wait for the slower pulses). A swing rhythm is lopsided and thus will constantly throw tempi off-kilter trying to adjust to the two different spaces between pulses. You can easily create a swing in tempi by phase shifting and then combining two channels that pulse at the same rate!
@moreikan
@moreikan 5 жыл бұрын
You can let it swing via the shift function. Take quite a fast master clock (like 16th note for example) and set clocks 1&2 (or any pair you like) to a division of the master Clock so that they have both the same speed. Activate both for shifting and patch one clock to the mod input. You can take the same clock to trigger the Instrument you want to be played with shuffle. By shifting the phase of this clock forward or backward in phase you can create a shuffle, furthermore you can use the 16 States to create increasing amounts of shuffle on the fly by turning the state knob. The faster your master clock the finer you can set the steps for your shuffled beat. I programmed one „shuffle bank“ this way with three shuffled clocks at different speeds

Great video as usual! Is Tempi kind of similar to Euclidean Circles (EC) except you get perfectly even divisions? It seems both can be used as pseudo-sequencers (More so EC since it doesn't have perfect divisions and you can link channels, although with Tempi perhaps you can emulate that using multiple channels for one voice and leveraging mod?). What are the major differences between Tempi, EC, and a traditional sequencer? You may have covered this in the video but it's a lot of information -- if so, sorry!
@mylarmelodies
@mylarmelodies 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah in a sense it is a BIT like EC functionally in that you step through different divisions as it were and you get different patterns, but Tempi is just putting out even divisions whereas EC makes patterns proper. As Tempi can be voltage controlled then you can start to get more pattern like gates out of it. You could connect EC directly to a drum module and get beats, whereas Tempi you’d connect to the clock input of a drum sequencer most practically...

I have a DIGITAKT and a TEMPI. I want the Tempi to stop sending clocks if the Digitakt stops playing. I found out how to program edit to run/stop all, and if I input no gate nothing plays. But is there a way to get the stop signal via Midi to the HERMOD that I own and then send that constant gate as CV to the Tempi and turn it off once the Hermod doesn't get a play signal from the Digitakt anymore?

@@mylarmelodies It's nice that it can still be modulated for changes by itself or with other modules. My fingers aren't acrobatic enough for on-the-fly tapping, but thankfully that knob control can centralize the changes live for all the states you make during studio time. My problem with Pam's is it's too divey. This thing would be wild paired with a Wogglebug.

They should make a standalone with midi for non euro rack folks who need granular master clock to sync the computer and hardware . It should be plug and play ideally. The ERM multi-clock has issues . We need alternatives for sync which is the one issue that still plagues electronic music this far along in the game. Until someone comes up with a truly all in one solution there will always be a “sync less “ monster ruining our music .👽

Hi, it's hard for me to like this. There is a trade-off between having as much functionality as possible on as little space as possible...and the usability suffers because of this. I think that to really love a module, you shouldn't have to have a manual beside you... cheers. I love your channel btw :D
@mylarmelodies
@mylarmelodies 6 жыл бұрын
Well that judgement does depend a bit on how much of the functionality you want to master - the core elements - making clocks run and slipping them, rely on the most basic of knowledge. You tap, or you Hold A or B and tap. You push A+B to slip phase. You Push A and you can Mute, You Push B and you choose channels to swap around. I can rattle that off of memory, so it's quite learnable.

Ironic having polyrhythms in the demo, bc Maths modules not known for their percussive sounds. More oozey, right? Wait, are the hats missing from his mix? ☹️Hard to see the module during states portion between hands and cables. With video editing, why not cross fade clean module view with patching view, so you see through the hands? Ben has meaty hands, better in his vids 😂
