Fun facts: The 2500 part in Sega AGES 2500 means ¥2,500, (the actual price they sold the games) And 3D AGES is SEGA D3 in reverse.

My mum was a SEGA kid too. Well, a SEGA teenager, as she got her Mega Drive when she was 18, but played SEGA games in the arcades. Mum never had a Master System, but now she’s given me her old Mega Drive, which I’ve added to my gaming collection and now look after for her. My dad never got into gaming, at all, but my Mum did get into it during the 1990’s. Ironically, despite her loving SEGA, her friends who she shared a house with had a SNES, and Mum effectively ended up stealing it when they moved out and left behind their SNES, so now I have that too!

It's awesome that the modern AGES series is being released in other regions besides just Japan, even if they're just souped up ports like the original AGES and not remakes and collections like 2500. But if it's deluxe ports or low budget remakes, I'm glad we got the former.

Sobou Most of the "criticisms" here are just personal nitpicks coming from nostalgia. And Golden Axe 1 isn't a very good Genesis game to begin with. I own all of the Sega Ages games and they are very fun and interesting. Some are average, though. I also think they would be great for people who have never played many early Sega titles, whereas some of these games contain their original versions as well as the remake on a single disc. My favorite (because I'm a nerd) is Hokuto no Ken Vol. 11.

Wow, thanks for plugging v2.20 of the Phantasy Star Generation:1 fan translation! It made my day! I'm one of the guys behind it. If you experienced any bugs, I'm sorry for them--we actually didn't have a way to test it on a real PS2. I'm hoping we can get it fixed, eventually, but my hacker's gone AWOL. Just a quick note, if you plan on doing Phantasy Star Generation:2 sometime down the line, it has a bug where it crashes on a real system when you win an item after battle. I wasn't part of the PSG:2 team, but I do know that there are plans to fix it eventually. Thanks for the vids! Keep kicking ass!

Wow, thank you very much guys! This is a video I always wanted to watch. I think you should do more videos like this, talking about graphic options in modern remakes of old classics. For instance, I got very disappointed due to the bad port of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog CD’ in Steam. Forced 16:9 (with the consequent image stretching), upscaling, filters (i.e., input lag)...

Piratong these games is super hard. Most were released in CD-R, so you can't just burn the ISO on a DVD-R. Converting the BIN and CUE to ISO doesn't work either. These Sega Ages 2500 were programed to boot from a CD-R.

Great idea for a series of videos!! I've never owned a Sega console so the PS2 was my first introduction to a lot of their games. I got into Sega Ages pretty late with the Gunstar Heroes Box. TBH I really think that's around the time when the games got good, since they just ported the originals rather than doing cheap-looking 3D remakes. Near the end they got really, really good, capping off with the excellent Fantasy Zone Complete (with the new Fantasy Zone sequel built on original hardware!!) and it is SO sad that they stopped there (even though it was already late '08 by then...). I would've loved to have seen a Sakura Taisen, Afterburner and/or Panzer Dragoon Zwei/Saga re-release... sigh. Looking forward to the next video!!

How are Megadrive(PAL) prices these days? When I bought most of my games 10-12 years ago they were dirt cheap(we're talking like 3-4 euros tops here), fully boxed and in great shape, even for stuff like Castle Of Illusion, Rocket Knight, Dynamite Headdy and a bunch of SHMUPs.

Coury, you forgot to mention that Tamsoft is also well known for the Toshinden series, a guilty pleasure of mine. Tamsoft is also really good at making fighting and hack and slash action games. Please don’t let them do party games. Dimps, another good company (known for Sonic Advance, Digimon Battle Spirit, the Rumble Fish Dragon Ball Xenoverse just to name a few) is guilty of the same thing. I hope both companies buried their attempts with party games. No company has a flawless track record.
