Omg I second this! There are channels that have over 1M subscribers but they miss out important details such as heat settings throughout the cooking process(you were brilliant in always mentioning this-I never felt stressed while making this wondering what the heat should be lol). The spice amounts were spot on too-not crazy spicy like some recipes are. Amazing job, wishing you all the success and happiness❤❤❤

Tried it. I boiled the dhaal for 45 minutes, gave it extra time in the masala and it still came up hard. I think I will soak it overnight the next time. Thought you overdid it on the red spices, but didn't realise how mild the Kashmiri red chilli was, taste was good. I could never cook this so respect to you for showing me! Thanks.

Thank you so much for your comment. Sometimes different brands take a little longer to cook than others but soaking overnight will help reduce cooking time.

one suggestion ....after ading the dall dont add water..if you want to add for more quantity then use the same water in which dall was boiled for 35-45 min...will be more tasty

I make the same in an Instapot cooker. Saves time, Energy and continuous monitoring. I fry the masala paste as shown, in the instapot in simmer mode -medium setting. and then add the chana dal pre soaked (1 hour) and cook under high pressure for 6-7 mins. Let the pressure release on its own. Top it up with Celantro. Ever since the Instapot came in the market it has saved so much time, Energy and no need for constant watch on the progress.

I made this last week and it was awesome. Made a big batch and ate it for several days with other side dishes. Sometimes with rice and sometimes with parata. I personally found it just a little bit salty for my taste as we're used to using less salt in my home. Will just adjust it a bit next time. Thank you for the many easy and comprehensive recipes. I lived in Multan for 6yrs and one of the best things there was the food ❤ Salam from Maldives

This looks so good I can (almost) smell it. Why do you drain the cooked chana before adding it to the masala pot? Nutrients -and a bit of flavor-are lost by draining.. I'm thinking the same consistency can be gotten by cooking the combined dal and masala a little longer and/or perhaps adding a bit less water during the masala bhun process. (My computer spell checker won't let me type "bhuning" it keeps chaining it to "shunning". I hope this doesn't happen when I post this question. I mean B H U N! Thanks for this and so many other excellent recipes.
@MyLittleKitchenRecipes2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I guess there's no harm in using the water the chana daal has been boiled in, I guess I've just seen my mum discard that hence why I did it.

Looking forward to your recipe of this daal. I love daal. Have you ever tried pease pudding? You can buy it in small cans. It contains the same lentils but less ingredients. You may have heard the nursery rhyme, pease pudding hot, pease pudding cold, pease pudding in the pot, nine days old. Anyway this was a staple food in the early 20th century and I remember before refrigeration etc. that the pease pudding would be made and each day mum would add another ingredient such as carrot, the day after cabbage, then potatoes, swede etc. We would add dumplings and herbs. As it is around the world an excellent source of protein. As for the rhyme I don't think we went 9 days but certainly 4 or 5. So the pease just thickened the water in the end. Thank you for the recipe.
