My theory is that Twilight faced a vilain she couldn't beat on her own, long after her own friends were gone, and decided to freeze all magic in Equestria. The vilain was no longer a threat without magic. Twilight made sure that magic would only come back once a new generation of ponies became the Elements of Harmony. The falling out between Ponies happened because magic was lost without any explanation. Sunny and her Friends brought back magic and have awakened the OG vilain.

She's a failure figuratively. While she was around, she was successful because she could help ponies from getting into discourse. Once there wasn't a babysitter of peace flying over the citizens' heads, there was no one to stop natural thoughts of greed and dislike over conflicting opinions. Ponies aren't going to always get along and some will go to extremes to take what they want, not unlike humans. If there's no one to stop them, they can and will do whatever they please even if it hurts others. Friendship only works for willing members, not everyone. And even if it does work, there's no guarantee it'll stick if opinions start to conflict. Trying to control that aspect of natural discourse was bound to backfire after a while as it's impossible to control such a mindset.

@@Tigressa101 So essentially Twilight was just temporarily stopping conflict among her subjects, but it was portrayed as if she was "managing" the magic of friendship. Once Twilight is gone, or the babysitter like you said, Equestria will, soon enough fall back into mayhem. It's Twilight's teachings and the path she follows with her friends that should be remembered by the subjects, not just her. She may be gone, physically, but the memory of her still lives, unfortunately by g5, the mane 6 have seemed to become an ancient tale or legend.

Hmm, since the G5 movie has a huge time skip, give or take 1000 or 2000 years, Twilight's time is considered ancient history, and Sunny has Mane 6 figures, ever stop to think Twilight's not the one that failed, but someone after her did? EDIT: Given what we got so far in the G5 series, we don't know all the details and it's possible Twilight did what she had to do as a last resort. I also can't help get the same vibes that happened between Celestia banishing Luna and when the Mane 6 first came together.

that isn't the only big red flag, it's been confirmed (?) that the pink tree in the meadow in the movie is the tree of harmony, err...the treehouse thing, which actually points Bridlewood as being in the remnants of the Everfree Forest, also can't rule out the map Sunny uses is a drawing and not actually the south of Equestria

It was also implied the giant tree they passed was the treehouse of harmony the student six created, so make of that what you will. Though it is noteworthy that the tree used to be within the ruins of the castle of the two sisters, deep within the everfree, so seeing it out in the open surrounded by an empty field is a bit ominous.

I don't think Twilight failed. I think what happened is Twilight left the crystals to a new set of Friends long after the G4 ones died and set off to spread what she learned to parts unknown. These crystal friends were leaders of the tribes at first but as the generations went on the crystal friends & their successors just fell out of favor by the tribes being replaced by ponies who didn't value the lessens of Friendship. As for why magic disappeared. Twilight engineered magic's disappearance to prevent disasters like the Wendigoes from returning. Twilight is a scholar of magic and history and made the anti-magic safeguard as a precaution. It only takes a couple generations for history to be forgotten or distorted. Twilight didn't fail, her disciples just fell out of favor with time.

While the most simple idea properly would be the cozy gang breaking out from their prison and wreaking havoc, something much more major must have happened for the line of harmony to having seemingly vanished, discord to be gone and canterlot to have turned into zephyr hills and the treehouse of harmony (now without the treehouse) just to stand out in the open instead of being inside the everfree. I just can't imagine what would have been big enough to cause all of this.

Everyone forgets the medallion Celestia gave Twilight. The pegasi could still be using that to control the sun and moon, assuming it is still intact. Another option is that Celestia, Luna & possibly Twilight are trapped somewhere - unable to escape, but able to maintain the rotation of the sun & moon, while holding back whatever threat caused the catastrophe (or imprisoned by whatever caused the catastrophe)

its also possible that the 'everfree' was let loose too and its magic spread across the globe after some incident. the sun and moon were caught by its magic and so everything is... functioning like a normal planet. the magic of the everfree containing all other magics.

Theory: so in equestria girls, it reveals that there are other universes, what if g5 was actually a different universe. Maybe one person went through the portal but ended up in the wrong universe, in g5, he gets stuck there but does have a child, sunny. He thinks he's in g4 so he tells sunny g4 is the same universe as g5, the one they're in.

My theory is that the crystals were draining the races of their natural magic as the crystals now raise the sun and moon due to the alicorns and discord being trapped or occupied. with how we left the show twilight making such an artifact to promote freindship wouldnt be out of the question and with such a important thing as the sun and moon she might have made it so it would take from other sorces if not enough freinship magic was present, or it could have been unintential for the races to loose their magic due to no freindship. my only other guess could be either a diffrent world or one that has been accidently created between the human and pony worlds from the leaked magic and they lost their magic due to the leak being patched that that was their only magic sorce untill sunny iginted the magic of freinship and either made a stable connection or a new sorce. either way i hope to see something of the alicorns or discord in the future. mabey after 2 or so seasons we find out what happend and get celestia reacting to being in a similer situation of what happend with luna in the past

i have a different theory (it is darker then this though) in my theory, all alicorns are immortal and it starts with Twilight living, but her friends having passed away unable to handle the loss, Twilight called the other Alicorns together, and they sacrificed there forms to give all of Equestria it's magic without the Alicorns control as it took the shape of the 3 crystals, and nature started working the same as in ours and the crystals where given to Twilight's descendants however, over time the crystals where given a bit of a power struggle, and it broke into the 3 parts we know, causing magic to slowly fade away and do to the mis trust between species, each went a different way -Pegasi went to Canterlot, and kept building and moving it higher (this is also where Twilight's descendants stayed, making the royal pegasi of G5 Twilight's biological family) -Unicorns stayed near ponyville, but moved more into Everfree Forest (and the crystals we see are the remains of Twilight's castle & the Student 6 clubhouse) -and the Earth ponies actually moved East towards the coast and when we have the G5 movie, that story become a kids story side note: there is a map of G4 Equestria that shows the south, it came with the G4 movie cause down there is the desert, Hippogryff mountain & the Storm King's kingdom

It could just be very little magic, pony abilities are the first thing to fail when magic is decreased so even if there was very small amount left they still wouldn't be able to use magic or fly.

G5 not having magic for centuries makes NO sense. G4 shows you need magic to move the Sun and Moon, Day and Night do not alternate on their own in Equestria. Without magic there would be no Day/Night cycle.

Actually I don't think Sunny's map has the North on top at all. Another map shown in the movie (the one in the background of the sherrif's office of Maretime Bay) lines the coast up pretty perfectly with an old G4 map's area around Fillydelphia - if you take that into account (it still matches the coastline perfectly) then Bridlewood ends up being around where Hollow Shades was and Zephyr Heights is either around the caves where Starlight ran off to in her debut, or Rainbow Falls

my friend's (joke) theory: Pinkie Pie was made immortal/uses her pinkie sense to live forever. Her and Discord were told by Twilight to let the friendship fall apart due to the friendships being stronger afterwards. She was the balloon pony from the canterlogic fashion show. She was the reason the entire movie happened.

I think cozyglow trek and crysalis escaped whilst crystals made everypony paranoid of the different races. Trek, cozyglow stole everyone's magic and took over the North forcing the ponies South who still believed the others betrayed them.

There are one or two things that debunks the whole thing about the earth ponies, unicorns, and pegasi moving south. Yes, the map does look different. But it was confirmed that the tree that they saw on their way to Izzy's place was in fact the treehouse of harmony. Meaning that this was still around Ponyville and Canterlot (even though they're gone). I don't know what could have possibly made the directors change up the map like that, but whatever.

@@fakeemail6815 I had never thought about that! I keep forgetting that G4 is basically 'ancient times' to G5. So, it's definitely possible. There was also a map of Equestria with Ponyville, Canterlot, Cloudsdale, and the Everfree Forest in the beginning of the movie. Of course, we're familiar with other parts of Equestria like Manehatten and Las Pegasus, but they don't seem to be included on the map in the background there. It's probably because everybody knows that Ponyville, Cloudsdale, and Canterlot are the major places that the show takes place. It would be interesting for these topics to be explored in the series a little bit.

Let's start. Twillight and her friends continue to rein Equestria with peace, and harmony. When her friends got older, they started to think they would outlive Twillight, and leave her to lead Equestria alone. Without the power of friendship, Twilight wouldn't have the strength and happiness within her. Her friends later have a confrontation with her about it, Twilight starts to think about it as well. Twillight suggests that, if she and her friends were to create "crystals" that contained the everlasting friendship and magic, burning inside for thousands of moons to come, they'd still make Equestria remember harmony, despite them passing. Her friends doubt that it would work, Spike comes in, and gives some insite. "If you think about it, the crystals can give memorial about what we all sacrificed for! The love, thoughtfulness, friendship and more for just them to remind themselves that, "Friendship, is magic. They can even help when danger arise. We may disappear, but the friendship that the crystals reminded them will be more than magic!" With that, Twillight and her friends had more courage to sacrifice themselves, even at the cost of their lives. Together, they hugged as Twillight casted the spell to create the crystals, and to transfer the love, friendship and magic within them. With some sort of the blast, they're magic was no more. Twillight later announced of what had happened, and set 3 new leaders for each and every tribe. She and her friends mentioned the crystals, explaining Twillight said, "My friends and I, created these 3 crystals, representing each and every tribe. Even every creature here! When together, all will be full of magic, never imagined. Just like every one of you. It represents the sacrifice we gave for all of you, just for all of the creatures and ponies to remember, that FRIENDSHIP, is MAGIC! I hope that each one of you protect crystals, and not to use for unnecessary things. I hope that is understood!" However, after that, everything.. wasn't planned. All the creatures, fought whom would settle the crystals, they fought over it all. They would somewhat, spread fake myths about it, so "Twillight would pick them as settler", or "Creatures wouldn't pick the others as settler" and ETC. They fought, argued, and then and there, The windigoes, arised. Even, some villians came across too, and made alliances. Each and every creature argued, and fought. The young six tried to make them remember friendship, however, they failed as creatures brought up about the crystals. Princess Flurry Heart, and Princess Cadence tried to calm down their empire, as their ponies were panicking about the windigoes. They used the crystals, but failed as everyone had a bitter soul, and had hatred for one another. It was useless, so the mane six called upon the pillars of Equestria, Princess Flurry Heart, Princess Cadence, the old princesses, and other unicorns that were friends with Twillight. (Sunburst, and Starlight. Possibly Luster Dawn) Before their making of a plan, Twillight asked if Luster Dawn would replace she and her friends. "I can't your majesty.. They did it, like magic was nothing, Everyone, had no happiness, they were dull. Despite that, they fought again. The new "leaders of the tribes", were also a part of the arguing. Twillight and her friends passed away, before alerting the creatures about what happened. (without alicorn magic, Twillight couldn't live any longer) Every creature that was apart of the "vanishing of magic" thought it would be best if they wouldn't say anything, and they would wait for hope to come. The creatures tried to make theories, some were accepted, so the story was twisted. It later became a little filly's story. The tribes moved away to different places, the creatures did the same too, as they didn't want to live next to all of the creatures. Some went to other places, some went to places wherein tribes were located back then. They argued about where they should move to, until they finally settled. Crystals were forgotten, friendship too. Some ponies carried the friendship, most did not. The young six tried to bring back peace again, but it seemed to fail because all the ponies depended on "magic". The ponies thought that, "if magic vanished.. friendship too!" Not even noticing they got the true meaning turned 360 around! At last, the young six stopped trying their hardest, and went with Twillight's last message to them. "Equestria is not at it's end, we have hope coming, even without me and my friends. Be patient, we've done what we were supposed to achieve. Time will tell." Twillight failed, for the best. The End ? Hope this theory is decent, tell me suggestions. me a year later: OKAY GUYS... this theory is terrible. majory of us bronies don't know what the actual cheese happened, and I made this dumb theory to make up for it. this does NOT make any sense, and the creatures fighting over the crystals theory is pretty stupid. since the new shows of MLP are coming very soon, we might just have an explanation. so, don't believe in any of this nonsense hahaha

Here’s my theory as to what happened.; Back when Twilight Sparkle and the rest of the citizens of Equestria defeated Chrysalis, Tyrek, and Cozy Glow there’s something worth mentioning. When the rainbow went into the sky the stormy grey clouds were dispersed. So I’m thinking that the wendigos where completely destroyed by the magic of friendship, especially since the camera did stay focused on the rainbow going into the sky plus the magic of friendship was most definitely stronger due to the fact that friendship extended far past just ponies. (This explains the lack of wendigos.) Now, Twilight and her friends rule over Equestria after Celestia and Luna leave. One by one the main six start to die off. Twilight realizing that she and her friends can’t live forever decides to gather up as many of her subjects as possible. Using a spell, she transferred their magic into the respective crystals and locked away said magic with friendship to make sure that no body can abuse the crystals for their power. Shortly after Twilight dies, there is a brief period of peace left over from her reign. But sooner rather than later, ponies start worrying. What will they do without rulers like Princess Twilight and her friends? Sure there’s Spike but one day he’ll die too. Out of this worry and desperation, each of the three pony tribes chose the most level headed pony from their race that they could find and sent them to Zephyr Heights (what was possibly previously known as Canterlot). However without a proper ambassador to talk to the other creatures the peace as well as the three tribes magic begins to waver. Pegasi, Unicorns, and Earth ponies slowly start to make small disagreements. These arguments start off from as small as who should run the school of friendship to who should take care of most if not all meetings or visits from the other non-pony races. The leader of the earth ponies tried to stay more grounded on fixing the quarrels between the leaders of the Unicorns and Pegasi. The two leaders cared not for fixing broken bonds and labeled the earth ponies as lazy since they didn’t care about “the important stuff,” like which one of the three should be the ruler of Equestria. The earth pony ambassador being called lazy was all that was needed to cause all hell to break loose. The earth pony’s voice was raised, the unicorn fired magic lasers, and the Pegasus picked up the others and threw them out of Zephyr Heights. The leaders furious and terrified, retreated back to their homes and complained about what had happened. Pegasi were labeled as dangerous ponies who had wings that they’d use to swoop down and snatch innocent ponies, unicorns were feared magic wielders, and earth were seen as uncouth and lazy. And now with no friendship no pony can fly, use magic, or possibly even grow plants like they used to. (It’s not the best but idk.)

Interesting theory, but i have questions. If G5 is set 500 - 1000 years after Twilight why would the glass mural have an imagine for Canterlot with Twilight's mark and not Dawns one? Plus the Mural would suggest that Twilight had something to do with the creation of the three stones. Maybe she seen that one pony to rule them all wasn't the best way forward for Equestria so she passed her powers into the stones and gave them to the ponies to rule with friendship. one last thing. Dawn seemed kind of forced to find friends and wasn't open to joining the group she found at the end of the series. It appeared she joining willingly but it was more like she did it because Twilight was watching. There's nothing that states she kept them as friends or even followed completely into Twilight's footsteps. She could have rebounded like Sunset Shimmer did before the latter saw the error of her ways.

I might have a theory on why the night and day cycle still exists even without Celestia and Luna. During and after the Wendigos, ponies wanted more control on every aspect of weather, including the amount of sun. Celestia discovered how to move the Celestial bodies. This is how Celestia became the first alicorn. Celestia taught Luna the magic to move the sun and moon, and had her take care of the night shift, to make sure the timing is perfect. Luna became lonely and felt like only doing a small part. She learned to go into dreams and helped ponies with their nightmares. This is how Luna became an alicorn. I'm basing this idea off the fact that the ponies do things like Winter Wrap-Up, something that occurs naturally with the movement of the sun. This makes me believe the ponies want calculated control of the weather and seasons. If the sun and moon moved naturally in the first place, it would do so again once the sisters are gone.

My theory: The deaths of so many important ponies (Shining Armor, the main 6, the pillars, the young 6 minus Smolder) most likely caused a depression in the world, which would cause love and friendship to fade. Candance and Flurry Heart would be very devasted as they both lost Shining Armor. This would make the Crystal Ponies lose hope causing the crystal heart to shatter. In a effort to save it Candance and Flurry Heart called the other alicorns to help them try to repair it like they did during the crystaling. But they wouldn't have somepony to give the Ponies hope, so instead they tried to save it with a different spell. Though this would save the Heart it would destroy them, this spell transformed the heart into the magical gems that soon became the only source of magic as FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC. This would make Spike really angry as he lost the only thing he had left of his family, Twilight. He would run away to the other dragons where he would ease into life. He would start to think like they did and eventually hate ponies when the dragons new emporer started a war against them. The dragons would destroy the ponies homes and once their world was destroyed start moving in. They would be destroyed by the rulers of the new 3 tribes with the Magical Stones each taking one of them as a token of peace. But soon enough the ponies would just spilt apart and without direct contact they would start to hate eachother. The Ponies would create their communities with the mindsets of the 3 saviors of the world. This would create the cites of ponies we know today. A couple years after that Sunny and Friends were born and the story of the movie would start.

I mean, Even if 1 thousand years have passed, Celestia trapped Luna in the moon for a thousand years, And was already grown up to Twilight's size in The Last Problem by the time she did and continued looking the same for the rest of Friendship is Magic, So it's safe to assume Twilight and Luster might still be around. I saw another theory here but i don't remember from who, That maybe some threat appeared that Twilight couldn't find a solution for so she sealed herself off with the threat to stop it from hurting everyone else, But had to take all of Equestria's magic with it and made those stones as like a second chance that someone could find a way to deal with it, And now that magic is back, So is Twilight and whoever or whatever that theat is are. I think that the princesses were the only ones that were keeping ponys in harmony and not causing a big racism thing too start. Once they died, it was chaos. There leaders were dead and they were stuck wondering what to do without them, so they continued their normal lives but things only got worse from there on.

This is a really cool theory! I love the idea of Equestria having an ice age cause yet another change in ponykind's homeland! (If i recall correctly, freezing weather is what led ponies to discovering Equestria in the first place, so it would be a nice callback). Personally, I liked to imagine that Grogar, the real one, managed to return sometime after G4. Grogar managed to successfully cripple Equestria; using a plan to separate the three races by planting seeds of fear and mistrust, and to drain the land's magic into his Bell. In the process various magic-dependant creatures perished, such as the Windigoes. Despite his victory, Grogar would soon fall, presumably fighting somepony who found out about Grogar's plan. Perhaps he fought Discord, as he seems to be most likely given his immense magical ability (that was not connected to Equestrian Magic and thus unaffected by Grogar's Spell) and the fact that Discord may not attempt to alert ponykind about Grogar's return due to his own hubris. As a result of this battle, Discord and Grogar are both taken out of Equestria; perhaps banished to Limbo, akin to the Pillars and the Pony of Shadows. While the Bell remained in Equestria (and was even recovered by Argyle sometime before the Film), ponykind had become too divided at that point to allow for any of their magic to return. Thus, the Bell lay as a relic of the ancient times; unable to be activated by a magicless ponykind. However, magic had not entirely left Equestria. I imagine that once magic started to vanish, a group of ponies managed to create the Three Gemstones in an attempt to store magic in case things went horribly wrong; carving the gems from the remnants of the Tree of Harmony itself. Unfortunantly while the magic within was protected from Grogar's Bell, because it had been made from the Tree of Harmony, the ponies were unable to use said magic as there was no harmony at the time. Thus, Equestria was magicless until G5's film.

wrote this BEFORE seeing the video: I look at it like the Egyptian Dynasties (basically fell apart from the inside)- Starswirl is the 1st Dynasty (Pre Equestria), Luna (Pre-Nightmare Moon)/Celestia are the 2nd Dynasty, Celestia by herself is the 3rd Dynasty (an Age that for the most part stayed the same, no major changes), Luna (Post-Nightmare Moon)/Celestia are the 4th Dynasty (the Golden age starts), Princess Twilight Sparkle is the 5th Dynasty (and a Golden Age) 6th - 10th Dynasties (golden age starts to tarnish) around the 20th Dynasty (non-pony races leave, magic is weaker) around the 25th Dynasty (Friendship is gone, as is magic, pony races fight in a civil War, Equestria is no longer a Kingdom) what would be around the 30th Dynasty (the 3 pony races are split) around this time Canterlot is renamed Zypher Hights, (as seen in the movie, witht he stainglass window) what would be around the 40th Dynasty (Generation 5, present day) the reason i'm saying that Gen 5 is like 40th is because so much time has past that Princess Twilight Sparkle lived in ANCIENT times so long ago that they are mythical beings in Generation 5, under my line of thought they did NOT FAIL and under Princess Twilight Sparkle's rule ALL RACES lived in friendship (so it does not diminish the end of G4)

So Twilight decided to either find or create a new source of power once she and the rest of the elements of harmony passed. In the right lower corner of the map there is picture of a compass (which is cut in you video), that shows that North is actually in top right corner of the map, which means we don't see South of the Equrstria on that map, it is Eastern costline.

Sooooo, the movie kept things incredibly vague, and perhaps in time if there are more G5 shows, we'll actually get into what happened in the first place, sort of how in time we learned more about the time before Luna was trapped, about discord and the other more primeval times of Equestria and the pillars for example. My own theory for the incredible schism between all tribes and the slow decline of their world goes through some relatively tragic events. From Twilight as an Alicorn actually outliving all of her best friends and the loss being too overwhelming in time. I think the Unicorns at her orders might have eventually given in to her wanting to forget everything so to speak and might have done something like sealing her off in stone, in G4 we only see that spell done by the two sisters and Discord, so being something requiring a pretty big amount of powers, it might explain also what happened to magic itself. Twilight being the princess of friendship, whose cutie mark symbolize magic itself. Trapping her in stone could have been the very source, the very beginning of the nature of magic changing and vanishing. From that point on, you can establish all three tribes starting to move apart too. The sealing of their princess even as an act of mercy, is not unlikely to be seen as the ultimate betrayal by the other two tribes. Between them starting to distrust the Unicorns and their guilt of actually going through with it, we could have the horned fellow retracting themselves deeper and deeper into the forests, away from everything. Leaving the Earth Ponies and Pegasi alone with one another, without the Unicorns acting as a bit of a bridge between the two species, while they might not have as much distrust for one another as they had for the Unicorns at that point, they still might have been driving each other slowly away. The Pegasi wanting to establish themselves further and further away into the mountains and over the clouds, while the Earth Ponies slowly migrated toward the coast, in search of more fertile lands. Leading to a point, where slowly but surely they ended up so far from one another that travel ceased, isolation settled in and eventually the distrust there was only for the Unicorn, became a distrust of all and every one that was the other. Twilight gone, magic broken and friendship frayed between each of them, distrust rising, only causing magic to grow ever weaker without friendship to empower it, we slowly get to a point toward the movie. Depending on how long it took before Twilight's lost broke her, the two sister could either be long gone from the world, they were retiring when she became ruler after all. Or too sad about everything that happened and being unable to mend the tribes again. They might have become hermit, living somewhere far away from everything, still rising the sun and moon like their burden since Twilight has been sealed, that is. If the magic medallion they've given her to control both celestial bodies hasn't been made some kind of permanent automatic contraption between Twilight sealed stone hooves. As for Discord, he could very well be in his own dimension, mourning Fluttershy to this day. Well, that's just all theory of course. While I could still enjoy the movie for what it was, they really didn't give much clue at all.

I think it's a good theory except for one detail. The southern half of the continent Equestria is on has actually been shown on a map. Specifically the mobile mlp game map from Gameloft. The south is mostly desert with a bit of green on the southern coast. It actually kinda looks like Sunny's map in the g5 movie though, so this theory could still be right.

Interesting theories. One thing on the location of the 3 cities is that the official maretime bay map in the sheriff office appears to be a south/southeast coast. And the concept for that map which is largely unchanged has a compass that verifies east/south/southeast.

My theory is that Sunny Starscout's world is a colony planet. One that has lost touch with the original homeworld. Equis, where Equestria is located. Over time, the colony forgot it's true origins. And the three tribes just drifted apart.

Hm, one more thing, if this is truly the south side of the continent... what is the Treehouse of Harmony doing over there? It was apparently confirmed that it is indeed that treehouse from season 9. The way I see it, there are 3 possible explanations for it: 1. The Treehouse was moved or somehow moved on its own, it's magical so it could happen. 2. The map is hung left/right side up for some reason and it's the either west or east coast we see, not southern. East coast seems like a better match, with few changes here and there, but if it was west coast then Zephyr Heights could have been build on the ruins of Las Pegasus... unless the original coastline had sunk, then it's a whole different thing.... 3. ... the planet was knocked over!? Or just the continent... Actually the simplest explanation would be that a giant cataclysm happened and most of the continent we know was sunk, the mountain on which Zephyr Heights is looks kinda like Canterlot's mountain, at least as far as the drawing on the map goes.

Hi. I’d just like to say that in theory, Canterlot is gone in G5, so I can therefore assume there could be a place known as “Neo Canterlot.” While many ponies and non-ponies have moved on to other lands in Equestria, I’ll bet Zephyr Heights in G5 is considered “New Canterlot.”

About the theory that Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are the actual reincarntions (or whatever) of the Sun and the Moon, in canon, they said that they were retiring to Silver Shoals. But I'm curious as to how and why there is still day and night. While yes, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna have the power to raise and lower the Sun and the Moon. In the Hearts Warming Hooves episode, there was a play on ancient Equestria. It was explained that unicorns used their magic collectively to do it. But if magic disappeared, then how?

Its a great theoru but still I dont agree with the theory of Princess Celestia snd Princess Luna not being ponies. I think that the failure might have been Luster Dawn since she was very open mindet and not very into ftirndship but no one knows for sure. Besides when Sunny's dad was telling Sunny the story of Twilight he said: "The Princess called the young unicorn to go make some friends." But I hope we get answers if series or another movie is coming.

I just sort of assumed that G5 takes place, like, 1500 years after g4 or something like that and somewhere along the way, the Alicorn Monarchy system is deemed outdated and the last of the Alicorns uses their magic to create a system (crystal or whatever) that keeps the sun and moon rotating. And as the years pass, the tale of Twilight Sparkle and the heroes of friendship becomes more of a legend and the pony tribes sort of drift apart or are wedged apart by fighting over who should rule and how. And that this new series will be about Sunny and her friends hunting down Twilight's legacy and teachings to reunite the pony tribes and bring back the magic of friendship. That sort of thing.

Keep in mind in G4 it is shown the Sun and Moon are magically pulled across the sky, implying that without magic they would not move. If they could move without magic that would make the Unicorns, then later Celestia and Luna's job of balancing Day and Night obsolete.

I don’t think twilight so much failed as simply was lost to time. The Stainglass window shows the crystals coming from her. I think what happened is close to the end of her friends lives, she encapsulated the power of an alicorn into a set of three crystals that would draw power from the love of her society which would then protect them, much like the crystal heart. Now a unicorn again, twilight lived out the last of her days with her friends. Over time, Twilight and her teachings faded, and the traditional class divides reinstated themselves. The crystals continued to protect them from the Windigos, but without the power of love and friendship to draw upon, it began drawing from their inherent magic. Unicorns, Pegasi, and earth ponies all lost their magic to feed the crystals. Then we had the movie. The ponies were under the impression that all they had to do was bring the crystals together, but of course that didn’t work. By bringing their people together, the crystals were once more able to draw from their love and friendship, and were able to return their magic. It seems twilight for saw this possibility, because the Crystal also granted her power to the one to reunite the people that power it.

Anypony realize that in MLP G4, there is exactly 2 pegasi (Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy), 2 earth pony (Apple Jack and Pinkie Pie) and 1 unicorn (Rarity) and of course at least one alicorn from one of the breeds. Remember Twilight was once a unicorn. In MLP G5, the same approach is used. 2 Pegasi which are Zip Storm and Pipp Petals. 2 Earth Pony which include Hitch and Sunny Starscout. 1 unicorn, Izzy Moonbow. Now compare.... 2 pegasi theory- zipp storm is simiar to rainbow dash, they both have multicoloured manes and they both have that head-strong attitude and the passion to fly, and how can you forget their tom boy ways and that they are overprotective sisters, lol Pip petals and fluttershy are both kind, slightly aggresive, soft spoken 2 earth pony theory- Hitch is more of an Apple Jack in a sense that they both have animal companions, protective of those they love, brought up by not the BEST parents, head-strong, have sherrif-like attitudes Sunny is definitely NOT pinkie, but they kinda act the same head-strong, friendly, have a NICE giggle, love to GIGGLE, both used to be socially rejected (poor them) 1 unicorn- Izzy is pinkie pie by 97% and rarity 3%, izzy and pinkie are always happy and they both share the ability to rap like pros, the 3% rarity in izzy is the fact that she finds the charm and sparkle in everyponyand they are

Cool theory! It explains many things! The cold separating, chasing or even killing the other species while ponies got isolated in the South, the disappearance of the Alicorn rulers... Even if it's not the official explaination, at least it is a satisfying one (maybe there are flaws here and there but to me it sounds fine so far). Also it echoes some real life events (climate change and refugees), which makes it quite relatable and plausible. Who knows? Maybe in the future we'll see what happened to the other species. They might still be there somewhere!

This was kind a what I originally thought the way things go for Gen 5 to happen. With how advanced everything suddenly seemed compared to gens 4 & 5 it made more sense that all this happens centuries after Twilight and the mane 6 and all those events. It also lead me to be that the events of gens 1,2, & 3 all actually happened in between gens 4 & 5. But now with the way things are going, they decided to take the high note that gen 4 ended on a ruin it by having twilight fail (her biggest fear during the last season) and her doing something stupid that could end up separating the ponies instead of uniting them (like we had a whole bunch about the founding of equestria and how there was division amongst each race and why it was important for them to be United but that seems to not matter now also where are the windigos?)

I like your theory. But I was also thinking that it’s been 4,000 years since the end of My little pony friendship is magic. And that 2,000 years ago Twilight best friends died a long time ago and she had to rule Equestria by herself, then she came up with a solution. Create 3 crystals each representing the three pony tribes; earth ponies, pegasy and unicorns, so no one would ever steal their magic again.To do this she choose three ponies from each tribe to receive the crystals. Then Twilight gave up her alicorn form to create the crystals, making her a normal pony in the process. After this Twilight created the crystals, she gave them to each pony from each tribe so they could protect them. Twilight Sparkle eventually died, joined her friends in the afterlife and 2,000 years later the pony tribes separated believing that they couldn’t stay friends without Twilight. As the years went by, most ponies in Equestria have forgotten about Twilight, her friends, her adventures and friendship between all ponies. Argyle Starshine descendant from the earth pony crystal guardian, spent his life studying Twilight Sparkle, her friends, her adventures in ancient Equestria and the friendship between the ponies. Eventually he met a female pony, they fell in love, they got married and they had a daughter named Sunny Starscout. Then the mother died when Sunny was really young, but her father carried on and promised to teach her the history of ancient Equestria. And even though Sunny didn’t know it yet she and her future best friends would be the key of bringing the pony tribes back together again.
