Nice to see you back on the water John. We where out there the other morning same spot. They are Remoras... we caught one on a floated dead pillie. Generally the will not take big livies. Great reels!!! Those will do the trick!!

Good choice in heavy setups! I run a 6500hs on a shimano jewel 5'4 as a heavy jig/bait setup and 8500hs on a 8ft shimano jewel as a heavy casting setup. They have been so good in the last 12 months of use!

The four fins just behind the head are the most obvious difference if its hard to see the head plate. They were pretty sizable, most i have seen are about a foot long.

Those coins are remoras you can catch them on small oil HD Cubs and they taste similar to cobia

Put a drop of dish soap on your lens and buff it off with a cleaning rag stops it from fogging. Works on sunglasses too. Can't wait to see you battle a big wahoo on the ski mate that'll be epic try not too loose any fingers or toes in the process those wahoo can do some damage if your not careful.

Those remora are so smart. Years ago i thought the same as you and they were under my boat. I was throwing pilly cubes and they were smashing them as soon as i stick a hook on forget about it they just know 😂

Have you thought about having a live bait keeper system in the yak? 1 thing i did is 150mm pipe capped 1 end and threaded cap the other end to open it and drill it full of holes then u can just hang it in the water to keep livies with u instead of trying to catch one every time u need it

Hi James, yeah mate. Definitely got some ideas for the ski and the yak. My. Mate has an epic set up he designed for his ski and for my yak I’ve just dragged a protein shake container behind me with holes and that does the trick too. Probably pretty similar size and concept to the piping. Yak fisherman are pretty crafty in those ways I reckon eh. Some great mods to make life easier is always appreciated. Cheers

When I went out last on the reef at Hervey Bay my mate introduced me to this wire that was like braid. You tie it. I'll see if I can find out what it is mate. East coast black jewfish catch limit reached Fishing for black jewfish in Queensland’s east coast waters is now off limits for all fishers until 1 January 2021 after the commercial catch limit was reached. Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries Mark Furner said the 20-tonne limit for east coast Black jewfish was reached on March 1. “Black jewfish is now a commercial and recreational no-take species on the east coast until the fishery reopens on 1 January 2021,” Mr Furner said. “Any commercial or recreational fisher found to be in possession of black jewfish will be in breach of the Fisheries Act and could face a maximum fine of $133,450.

They aren't cobia they are remora (sucker fish). The head is too pointed and the tail is too flat to be a cobia. By the way your bait was a bonito, you can eat them. But you can't eat mac tuna.

Actually the bait was neither mack tuna nor bonito but a striped tuna, and not the best of eating fish according to most (although did have one cooked for us down at St Helens Tasmania by a local who proved that comment to be wrong - unfortunately they didnt share their secret of HOW to cook it lol)

Sorry they are definitely Not Cobia. Just vermin Remora. They are nearly always on marks and behave like that regularly. Offshore is new for you for certain.
