How to Replace a Faulty Headphone Jack on a Xbox One Controller

Hi, this video shows you how you can easily replace the headphone jack on a Xbox One controller (Model 1708).
The headphone jack is a removable part and no soldering skills are needed. The replacement headphone jack cost approx. £3 or £4 from eBay and you can even buy a kit that includes the 2 Security Torx screwdrivers for under £5 from China.

They charge too much for these controller to break so easily. I have had my first controller break after a few months of use, I bought a new one only to have it start acting up after a month. Luckily, I like tinkering with stuff like this.

You should get a couple of plastic spudgers for opening things up for future. They are cheap as dirt and leaves no mark to plastic parts like metal does sometimes. Also if you want to be careful with those rumble engines, just put clear tape over them to keep em' from falling and ripping itself off the solder pad. Great video!

Dude, a tremendous thank you to you for this video. I have 2 controllers. One has a faulty headphone jack and the other drifts upwards. I had the chance to switch the working headphone jack and then decided to look at the drift issue, took the button off and flicked it around. Amazingly enough, both now work perfectly! This video helped me so much. I found out you can even fix the Headphone jack using the headphone jack from a model 1697 if you drill out the headphone jack space in the front cover of the model 1708 to match the size of the headphone jack space of the model 1697.

This helped me fix three controllers today! I didn’t replace the audio port blocks though, I thought I’d have a look at them first. All I did was lift up all the contact prongs as well the one at the opening where the jack plugs in. Worth a try as it might give you a quick fix. Thanks Vince. girlzeyeview I used a really small Allen key and gently pushed it inwards towards the centre of the jack port hole. You can’t open the actual audio jack block as it’s moulded plastic with the prongs going through it. I’m not sure if it helped I just ensured what ever I thought needed to make contact was lifted or pressed in the right direction 😂

Doc The Thot Slayer! A little pressure and the gold metal tabs should bend outwards away from the plastic block (blunt knife/kitchen knife as a tool) Don’t bend the metal that runs through the block only the tabs that protrude which make contact with the two boards when sandwiched in the controller They work like the contacts for a standard battery where the spring effect helps give contact with the contacts inside the controller. For everyone wanting to know the port for the new 1708 models "a6 port" are faulty the older ports for the 1708 "7b" are made a little different causing stuff like this not to happen also make sure you don't drop your controller cause that might also be the cause

My Mate VINCE I see that this is for a Xbox one S model controller but I have a Xbox one X model controller and wanted to make sure this part would work for it. You said model 1708 for that controller and my Xbox one X controller is a model 1708 as well. So I found it on Amazon and it says Xbox one S model and am going to purchase it for my X controller since the model numbers of my X controller and the controller in your video which is an S controller match. !!! QUESTION TO ANSWER !!! first of all i have 6 controllers and i never had any problem. I bought pubg limited edition. Looked okay. Day it worked pretry well. I was using with this controller logitech pro headset connected to headset jack. And then controller started doing somerhing. Controller started turn itself off sometimes and audio wasnt clear. "Finally" next day headset port was fully unfunctional no matter what headphones/sets i tried. 2nd thing is i noticed when i am using controller with originall batteries from box it is turning controller of couple times. Like there was bad contact or what. When controller is connected with cable it is working very well. So i head over to this video and i ordered audio port replacement but i am not sure if it is the main issue in my controller. Have anyone experienced problems with rhis pubg controller or any version???

H4533B 345 I opened mine up today as I’d repaired two 1708’s and wondered how different the 1697 would be. Well its not any different to open up with the same audio block inside between the two boards held in with all the same size TX screws. The only difference is the vibration parts in each corner face down instead of up when working on the board which is a bit of a pain. I lifted all the prongs on the audio jack block and that fixed it without having to replace them. As it is sandwiched between the boards it relies on those prongs touching the board. So gently bending them up will ensure they make good contact. Also the little prong on the entrance where the jack goes in may need bending up a little so it makes good contact with the headset jack. Hope this helps.

I got my two controllers repaired yesterday. But they used security torx screws in my model 1708. inside the screws head there is a metal pin, so impossible to open with a normal torx screwdriver. the sollution was to use a Dremel tool with the smallest diamond drill bit and frase it out first. After that it was easy to replace them.

Didn't even need this video as I recently replaced the faceplate and thumbsticks as well as ABXY buttons on the version of the Xbox One controller geared towards PC (which is just an Xbox One S controller--1708). Everything went smoothly, buttons registered in the "Xbox Accessories" app for Windows. I was just curious as to why the headphone isn't soldered to the board, and if anyone had soldered it. But this video was suggested in the google search. Good to know for future reference that I can get a replacement jack, though. I actually use/d low tack masking tape (the kind used for plastic model and crafts, it doesn't pull paint off or leave residue) to keep the motors in place--you can find that fairly cheaply on eBay or Amazon.

4 week update. It did work. But note this. Just lifting the prongs doesn’t always work. The pins inside of the jack itself lose their spring and won’t contact the tip and ring.

A small minature flat head for glasses repair works perfect...it fits between the little nipple in the middle and the notch..youll see..it woeks mini flat head screww driver..just dyi..people wanna do it now and not wait for stuff..lol..anything you can fit to get leverage to turn screw..they are easy to lossen

I can’t tell if my headphone jack is faulty or not. It’s either the headset or the controller. It’s confusing because one minute it was working fine then the next I unplug it a bit to fast maybe and when I plug it back in, nothing. So I’m thinking it’s prob my controller but I went to test the headphone on a another device and couldn’t hear anything. So could it be my controller and my headset?? I just don’t understand why my headset wouldn’t work. The plug isn’t damaged, so it’s leading me to believe it’s my controller.
