Here we have a job lot of items which are all retired from use due to faults BUT no repairs have been attempted on them...so they are honest faults.
Many thanks to Mike for sending them into the channel 👍
If you would like to support these videos, please click here / mymatevince
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.

Initial response is not good for the yellow mat...Whilst I do like it, even my wife said it hurt her eyes watching my video 🤣 What do you think? Run with the yellow mat for a bit or change back to the blue. Have I made a big boo boo? Comment down below 'Yellow' to keep the new eye squinting yellow mat or 'Blue' to bring back old faithful 👍👍👍

Thank you for the cautionary tale of not buying anything from Sonos. When someone buys any product, they expect it to work regardless of it's age. Changing the software/firmware so it can no longer function, despite the hardware being perfectly fine, and expecting people to spend more to get the same thing, is fraudulent in intent, if not actually fraudulent.

Yeah, what a garbage, anti-consumer practice. It's not like I'd expect old hardware to gain new features indefinitely, but at the very least - the core functions should work for the life of the hardware. Trash.

A couple of years back, I had a cheap Samsung TV. The model couldn’t update firmware over the internet, but one day (after the warranty was expired) I turned on the TV and in the upper right corner on the screen, a little message popped up where there stood“updating firmware” - the day after, when I tried to turn the tv on, it constantly kept switching on and off and the only way to turn it off, was by unplugging the tv from the socket. I tried to plug it in again, but the same “death switching” continued. I tried to reset the tv but nothing worked - it was dead!

While mat color does not affect whether or not I would watch in the long run, the blue mat is much better to me. It does tend to be a bit much for my eyes and for me the screws and parts you remove show up a bit better on the slightly darker blue mat. If you are looking for a change, green is my favorite color and I think a similar tone to the blue mat or slightly darker would function just as well.

That watch is a pretty bad fake, though I guess it's easy for me to say that as I see the real deal at work on a regular basis. There's lots wrong with it which can be summed up by "poor quality" and "incorrect"! The clasp is completely wrong by the way - Omega don't use that style of clasp, so well noted! The movement is a Chinese automatic, I think it's a calibre DG 2813 or similar. When you're attaching a new crown, hold the stem in a pin vice and apply a tiny amount of loctite threadlocker 243 to the end, then screw the new crown on (assuming the stem is the correct length of course). Obviously it doesn't matter in this instance, but if you ever need to remove a crown and someone's superglued it on, it's a little annoying! 😂 Great video as ever Vince. Cheers!

Cool fixes :) The yellow mat might give better contrast in small items, but the blue mat is the traditional one. Recently unfortunately decided to throw to e-waste my old mini videocameras, like the 808 keyring cam, and USB memory stick videocamera. They were about 10 years old, and at least in two of them, the Lithium Polymer batteries had expanded, which means they're bad and in unstable condition. Noticed one camera back plate had clear bump there, which indicates that the battery had expanded. The 808 keyring camera was initially seemingly ok, tried to charge the battery after being unused for years, and during the charging, it expanded so much, that it forced the case open, even it's held together with two screws at the back. I've read that LiPo batteries might be fire hazzard if they go puffy like that. Can't take that kind of risk, so sent them all to electronics recycling. Lithium Polymer battery fires seems to be difficult to put out, it can burn even without oxygen. Quickly looked that new replacement LiPo batteries are more expensive than the whole camera was, and not sure if the specs were correct, not to mention the size. These mini videocameras were fun toys, inspired to buy them from Techmoan's review videos back then. One swollen LR44 battery has already exploded on me, so I can imagine the bigger LiPo battery might do bigger damage if it explodes or starts a fire.

The thermometer gravity switch reminds me of an idea I had a few years ago for keyless vehicle security, after watching a video clip on TV showing car thieves using a radio relay device to get the car key to transmit so they could steal the car gave me the idea. Essentially, when a key is left down it will power off and not respond to an unlock request, simply moving the key like you would if you were going about your business would keep the logic chip vcc pin powered and then the power off process would repeat keeping the vehicle where you left it.

I actually have this Omega Pierce Brosnan Die Another Day watch. Pawn Shop buy at $800. The bracelet is completely different with 2 tiny round press buttons and full logo with 007 centered properly. The movement is an ETA 1120 as printed in gold on the automatic wind flywheel. High quality 21 jewel movement. My Time Grapher shows it at +4 secs per day at 28,800 BPH. Crown tube should be a screw down seal to provide the 300 meter depth protection. You could adapt the case to original by replacing the crown tubes and finding a 1120 or 2892 caliber movement from Cousins or EBay.

Great fix. Although a fake the movement in that watch is still interesting. Not the typical quartz tick tick second hand but a smoother moving one. Is it kinetic too? Have you tested it for accuracy. If it's accurate probably doesn't matter it's a fake. Sonus amazed me. Not tried a different mains lead I guess, first thing I'd check. Also ridiculously complicated to get it paired. Other 2 were good fixes. The speaker with lamp possibly dropped to cause the crack?

Now I remember why I never considered to buy a Sonos product, they partially gave in their planned obsolescence after a lot of backlash but still things like they want you to buy new devices when their old ones work absolutely fine and also the lack of DTS on their soundbars (ok, I see they finally added it 11 months ago but refused for almost 10(?) years). Of course these are non-software-driven but I got a pair of Canton Fonum speakers from the mid-80s and they work absolutely fine, same with a Elac PC910 turntable from 1979/1980 and a Grundig CD7500 from '83 I bought it faulty and got it repaired (laser got adjusted, recapped and the transformer was soldered from 220 to 240V - mains voltage was 220V in most european countries and 240V in the UK before 1987 and then all changed to 230V and the power supply seems to work better with less heat on the 240V setting) I doubt that many Sonos devices will last that long. And of course also their speaker technology may advance but would it be bad to offer at least upgrade logic board kits with newer SoC etc. so that you get some new features but save the environment by replacing just a board and not the whole unit.

A white or beige mat would put emphasis on the thing you're fixing. Neon colored things may be distracting too much. But, you're a handyman, not an artist. It doesn't matter which tools to use or how they're colored. You make yourself comfortable to get the job done.

You should not use metal tweezers on a disc battery you have just shorted it out! Keep up the good work.

Not sure about the yellow mat. It is givig me a migraine. It is too luminous but I would still watch your videos whatever colour mat you have.

Honestly I’m a fan of the yellow mat but I can see why people might not like it. Maybe go halfway and get a green one? Hahah

Careful Vince, you might get a copyright strike from yourself. It's a really mad world we live in so anything goes. Omega watches have 7-8 digit number on the back somewhere, you can then check this online to see if it is Authentic, IF it has a number that is, no number? then a fake. Also, that switch you did at the beginning? the internals are just like mouse switches inside. The metal spring bit can be taken off and this helps cleaning though can be a bit fiddly. Becareful though as they can easilyt bend. As with the Corsair M65 mouse buttons which have been known to send a double click signal when you click once, they can be come tarnished, like a brownish colour, which means cleaning, I have had this with my one. Tip with any copper on circuit boards etc and these, use a soft rubber/eraser to clean them, just like on some HDDs, take the circuit board off and you will see on some they have around 20 pads in 2 rows and if they become brownish then this can stop the drive working properly so run over with a soft eraser/rubber to clean them and this can sort out the signals again and make the HDDs work again, not always but most cases for me, this has been the issue. Works on many tarnished copper pads at times and a good place to start. Just a tip. By the way, this is how I sorted my mouse out, no replacement switch or desoldering/soldering needed.

White balance is off for this yellow, so it looks like light green and everything else looks blue around. Maybe blue pad is better anyway!? The bottom side of the switch is the same as switches in mouses, take one from a broken mouse.

I was really confused what watch it was as I've never heard the name, but that was only british pronunciation 🤣 PS: Love the yellow mat 👍

If you ever have any fake-O watches you don't want, always a home waiting here in my black museum of fakery... I think the best fake-O I have is a Noob Planet Ocean. Added another Seiko group to the collection a J Springs V657 chrono...
