What we have here is a dealer “promo” filmstrip. A promo is actually a promotion because promo is a shorted version of the word “promotion.” The idea of this filmstrip promotion is to inform and pep up the dealer to better sell the automobile. The automobile the dealer will be selling is the American Motors automobile. The more of these American Motors automobiles (the “now cars”) the dealer sells the more money he will make. As a sales pitch he will now be telling the prospect that these automobiles “respond to thunder.”

That would be a great car to have today especially in that condition. I am drooling.

Great video! That car was very attractive, an uncanny resemblance, at least to me to a 1968-69 Plymouth Roadrunner, or a Satellite. For years, I worked for the man, in Beverly Hills that became the youngest CEO of American Motors, in 1977.

Our first AMC was a Matador Red 1967 Rebel 2 door hard top with a black interior. From that day forward we never looked back! The 1967 Rebel was and is a "head turner" for car enthusiasts. When Chrysler bought the company a part of automotive innovation was lost forever!

I had a 68 Rebel SST with the base V8 and automatic and I can attest to the good performance.

290 I assume. My best friend's parents bought a new 1968 Ambassador SST with a 343 in it such a smooth quiet car and it ran pretty damn good as well. Miss those days.

They had a horrendous oiling system that was prone to failure .

Only if you drag raced them in some really hot classes, otherwise you never knew about it. Our neighbor owned a AMC dealership, Fulton's Garage We owned a 1973 Ambassador that my parents bought new and that 304 was excellent. I road in several AMC that our neighbors owned, and I do not ever remember any engine problems.@@HowardJrFord

Very similar in design to the GM LS. Properly set up, it’s a fine system.

@@HowardJrFord Unless really modified and I mean really you would never know there was a problem. My uncles owned a Rambler/ AMC dealership for years and we saw very few if any problems with their engines.

It's interesting that the 67 Rebel used the rear side marker lights a year earlier than required. I hadn't noticed that before.

Look for a video titled When skill takes the wheel. It is a video shown to students who would have been enrolled in a drivers ed class. The car used in the video is a 1967 Rebel SST two door hardtop, in red.

5:01 Cars back in this era are much more fun to drive than what's being manufactured today. In this car I'd choose the 343cubic inch V8 with a 2 barrel carburetor with 235 horse power and Shift Command 3'speed automatic transmission and a shorter ( higher numerically) final drive ratio and optional dual exhaust.

From 1957 until 1966 AMC had a 327 v8 that was their own design as they had it in 1957 Chevrolet did not have a 327 until 1962 and the Rambler 327 looked NOTHING like Chevrolets and starting in 1965 You could get that engine with a four speed and a dash top mounted Tach in the Rambler Classic and Ambassador. Remember looking at them in the showroom of my uncle's dealership.

It's not too honest to call the '64 330 Olds "one of the older V8s" when it debuted in '64. It was literally a brand new engine.

the '67 Rambler Rebel did have one advantage over the '64 Olds Cutlass - a 3-speed automatic transmission vs. the 2-speed Jetaway in the Olds.

AMC's are not mopars , they were neither designed or built by chrysler . The only thing mopar in an AMC is the torqueflite transmissions used in 72 and later models . The fact that chrysler bought AMC in 87 to get jeep does not make an AMC car a mopar .
@mymopar

Thank you for your astute observation. I'm well aware that AMC wasn't a part of Chrysler in 1967. They're part of the family now, so instead of shunning AMC enthusiasts like leppers, I've chosen to add their content.

@@mymoparI have been a lifelong Mopar guy , and I still own my three Mopars that I acquired in the 70's . I used to buy AMC's for winter beaters back then due to the fact that you could find one on nearly any used car lot for 200 bucks . I always had a soft spot for them , and have been looking for a decent V8 powered one . I joined 3 AMC groups on Facebook , and this really opened my eyes . AMC guys despise Chrysler , plain and simple . They blame Chrysler for killing off AMC and taking jeep , although AMC's car operations were dead by the time Chrysler came along . These guys insist that AMC was doing just fine , and that Chrysler killed them off to eliminate competition and get jeep . Some days they trash Chrysler more than they discuss AMC , and a few months back I had enough of it and left the groups .
