@alexeyshestov7294 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reaction! The third verse is a bit wrong - it is not about a war, it is about an exceptional man, who does exceptional things without an effort, and he is doomed to die young. He feels no limits in life - because of that he doesn't know what is yes and what is no, doesn't remember social hierarchy. And because he feels no limits, he also doesn't see when he puts himself in danger, so he will die young. It is about all those talanted men who had burned too early - including Tsoi himself, he died when he was just 28
@RoadToFuture007 Жыл бұрын
Btw. Tsoi's car was hit by a bus which types name is "Icarus". If you reads the last verse of this song you will find reference to the Icarus Myth (this was the guy who flew up tho the sun but the sun melted the glue which was fixing his self made wings so he fell down to the earth). So there is some kind of real mystics and prophecy around this song!

correction. "He CAN reach for a Stars and same time not believing that this is a dream". Its means not that guy is in a dream, but that he can do fantastick dreamlike things not realy bothering that they are fantastic. And than he falls scorched by the sun.
@RoadToFuture007 Жыл бұрын
Agree. "Falling scorched by the sun" - this is the myth of Ikarus. Btw. the bus which hit Viktors car was also an Ikarus ;)
@RoadToFuture007 Жыл бұрын
So the meaning is not that pessimistic and fatalistic as Ric described it. There is just this perpetual process that is prety old and it is not peacefull but there are certain individuals who are "out of this world" and maybe die young in the battle or because they are trying to reach the Sun (the stars, because Sun is also a star) but they are loved by the fate because they are pushing our limits and dont care if someone is calling them dreamers. This is how i understand it.

You're wrong guy. Blood, after it hit the ground, in just an hour nothing happens to the ground, after two hours there are already flowers and grass on this land, and after three hours (not after three years) the earth is alive again (metaphor) In general, the text of the song is not about the war as such and the fact that everything on earth goes in a circle, only people change. It's also not about any particular city that is 2 thousand years old, it's a metaphor. Any war on earth is a matter of the young who do not live up to their wrinkles, but again, war can be just life if it takes place in difficult conditions, like most......And actually I don't know why they put here Afghan theme......

Great response, great analysis, amazing how you felt about the song! But in the case of Kino's songs, there is one point. Even among the Russian speakers, many disputes continue about the meaning of Tsoi's songs - on the one hand, the meaning lies on the surface and everything seems to be clear, on the other hand, it is often a metaphor. The example with the song of Changes(Перемен) is very indicative - many perceive it as a call for political changes, especially given the context of Perestroika, but Victor and other members of the group said that this song has nothing to do with politics and that it is about internal experiences.

Hi, Ric, just thought i'll point out a slight inaccuracy in translation to the 3rd verse. This is "calm song" because it has a marching drum pattern and tempo. Kino used marching pattern very often. I think even "calm night" is a march. "Wrinkles medicine" i always interpreted it as "war is wrinkles medicine" in the sense that war resolves some complicated situation "easy way" but now i think your interpretation has also some sense.

Kino - Mom, we are all seriously ill Live 2020 Mother, We've All Fallen Gravely Ill Seeds have fallen in dirt, seeds are asking for rain. They need the rain. Cut open my chest, have a look inside, You will see that a fire is burning the core. It'll be late in a day, it'll be late in an hour, In a blink you won't be able to stand. And if the keys are unfit for a door, use shoulder to knock out the door. Mother, we've all fallen gravely ill... Mother, I know that we all have gone insane... Steel between fingers, tightly clenched fist. Hit above wrist, still tormenting the flesh, Poison in veins, instead of the blood, slow poison, poison froze up. The world is destroyed, the foreheads are cracked, and bread has been broken in half. And now someone's crying, and someone is mum, And someone is glad, someone's so glad... Mother, we've all fallen gravely ill... Mother, I know that we all have gone insane... You've got to be strong [yeah], you've got to be able to say: Keep hands off! Keep hands off me! You've got to be strong [yeah], or why else would you rather be? What will be worth a thousand words, When a strong hand will be all that you need? And now you are standing on river shore and thinking: to swim or not to swim? Mother, we've all fallen gravely ill... Mother, I know that we all have gone insane...

The city in a road loop is the Moscow, because it really lays inside a big road loop that is circling around the city's borders, but other vice it is a metaphor to all our civilization witch counts already 2000 thousand of years and have well known problems with wars and aggression
@Antosza5 ай бұрын
Moscow is not unique in that way, a lot of cities have a road loop around them, and Moscow is definitly not 2000 years old. So you are wrong, it's realy just a metaphore for human civilization.

russian is a pretty complex language to translate into english, and some things don’t sound as good in english compared to the original. their lyrics are pure poetry, so it’s hard to keep the complete vibe of the original song, and that’s why you have a million different translations lol. love your analysis of the lyrics btw and how you really dove deep into it. were you a good english lit student when you were younger? you’re right about us russians but i think it’s just because we’re more realistic while americans have more of a culture of blind optimism. i’d say kino also has songs with melancholic hopefulness and call to action, so they’re not always completely gloomy lyrics lol

We Russians (this is not a nationality, but a state of mind) do not have a gloomy, but a sad soul, and it is deep. We grew up with amazing books, songs and movies. Choi is one of our geniuses. And Russians have a lot of deep images and metaphors in the language itself. We're thinking on it! This is happiness! And yet in our everyday communication culture, there are no smiles for strangers without a reason (if a Russian is happy, he can smile at strangers). But in general, when you get to know a Russian closer, he is open, sincere and friendly. Our "how are you?" requires a sincere answer. We're wondering what you're thinking about, what you're feeling. Share it with us and we will smile at you from the bottom of our hearts.

I'm already watching your second reaction to Kino's songs .... Sadness ... Again, the video sequence does not correspond to the meaning of the song. Who advises you on these self-made videos superimposed on Kino songs that are off topic and confuse the meaning of the songs? Look for original clips of the band, from concerts, from films and with normal translation. And there are also clips where Choi sings in English. Maybe then you will begin to understand what these songs are about ... Good luck.
