No doubt all of this was going down in early November, which explains why the Cougs tanked the last three games of the season. We have to face the fact that WSU is in the nadir period of their football history. My greatest memory as an alum was the 1997 season and the 1998 Rose Bowl. Nothing will come close to that in the next few decades. With time we may forget about the PAC-12 Conference but WSU won't be in the conversation for a good long time.

Bump is right. Look at what Oregon State is doing. Coaching staff is virtually all alumni. They had a bad year, but the team was young and they are bringing most of their impact players back. The first mission with Wazzu should be stabilizing it. This can be done via alumni hires.
@FanTastic-s9l22 күн бұрын
J Smith was an alumn. He went to a program with more resources per his own press conference. As long as there are no caps on percent of blue chip ratio on rosters or other measures to prevent the game from being bought by the richest booster, WSU is fighting a battle it can't win. You need to be a corporate shill like Oregon or have donors willing to gift $20M+ per season.

This sucks, for coug fans, its too bad Rolo isnt around these days. Dickert has done an incredible job at WSU. Him leaving is a direct result of the true crime of the NCAA letting the conference fall apart, that has unfairly put wsu, and osu in an unfair situation.
@FanTastic-s9l22 күн бұрын
Rolo is around. He's coaching at Cal as an analyst similar to how Saban used to bring in project coaches. He is still in a lawsuit against WSU and Washington State.

Exactly right. One and done is the new expectation. WSU, OSU, Boise State, etc. We can only hope to catch lightning in a bottle each year as Boise has done with Ashton Jeanty. Next year we all start with a fresh slate.

I had to wait until the end of this episode for Seattle Sports to start talking about what's wrong with the timing of the NCAA. There should be no transfer portal activity until after the entire football season is over (eg, after the championship game). And players/coaches should not be allowed to decide whether or not they will play in bowl games or the playoffs. How stoopid can the NCAA possibly be by ruining the game and allowing players/coaches to go to the highest bidder? Truly shameful.

The courts opened it up to where the student could enter as soon as the deadline is opened. To give them the time to find a new school and be enrolled for the next semester. The courts ruled. If the NCAA changes things to much at the detriment of an athlete, guaranty there will be a new lawsuit that will lead right back to the courts, and who do think will win? It’s all about the courts telling the NCAA and the schools, you cannot do anything that will harm the athlete anymore.

Dickert was an excellent coach but unlimited free agency in the portal means NIL-starved teams are no longer attractive to established coaches. Sign the coach from a lower tier like South Dakota State to a massive buyout so that loyalty is not in question. In the end, it may not be worth it for many of the public football programs to pursue a game which is now for sale to the highest bidder against the likes of unlimited NIL Oregon, tOSU, and most of the SEC.

Bump & Stacy both need to take a TV production brush up class at Murrow to learn good visual presentation of microphone technique. Viscerally satisfying to them to "eat the micr." but not visually satisfying to your audience; Change / adapt / for your audience, not the other way around.

Dickerts’ exit means WSU must seriously reevaluate the ROI for keeping an Athletics Department. There’s tons of money and irrevocable global prestige to be made as a research-based institution. WSU: Say goodbye and good riddance to the endless headaches and existential uncertainty of placing all your eggs and bets on the mad world of greed driven college sports. What’s the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different outcome.

@ cheaper to live, less taxes better weather. At the position he will be at he doesn’t have to worry as much about tornados or hurricane damage due to the amount of money he makes. That is why I didn’t move that far south. I’m still south of the Mason Dixon line but at a far less risky location.
