The watch works well but make sure you buy a synthetic replacement because the watch band doesn't last very long. Ive had to replace 2 bands, which are stated as being genuine leather, however the leather is an inferior quality. The location of the 2 support straps around the main band are poorly located and make it very very difficult to put on the watch on your arm.

I got two Lowrance Airmaps instead. Way cheaper... Airmap 500 for $20 off of eBay with make an offer, and someone gave me an Airmap 2000 with accessories for free. Blows the Garmin D2 away for aviation features. I already knew about the D2, but who has $500-$1000 to drop on a stupid watch. GPS synced time, full maps of the USA, with basic world maps too. I sniped a Casio PAW-1500 instead for $28 on ebay (screen was dead, the dummy seller just needed to put it in the sunlight for 3 minutes). The 1500 is an ABC watch with solar/atomic time keeping, and that's how I got at least a back up altimeter and compass on my wrist. Love it, I think it's better than the PRG-2500, which has more of deflicted interface, but everyone seems to be after. The WWVB atomic sync and solar power is DA BOMB, I'll never buy another watch without solar or radio atomic clock sync. One, with solar, you can turn on all the alarms, hourly chimes, button sounds, and power sucking features ON and use the light to your hearts content. Two, with atomic, at least the watch is doing what a watch should do, and always telling you the correct time, accurate to within 1/3rd a second. Every other watch without it, you have no idea... is this really the right time? If your an ultralight pilot or glider pilot, and can't afford a freaking D2, get yourself an Airmap 500. It's awesome sauce, they typically run around $30 when they come up on eBay...

I bought one of these and I reckon they're great - especially as a back-up. Sometimes I use it as my "primary weapon" and I find the heading bug really useful for lazy flights back to base or, elsewhere. There's a load of info on it which is pretty useless - e.g. the VSI and the map!! When would I look at these when I have them on my panel? Overall? Get one.

Does it have an adjustable pulse ox/O2 level alert to let the wearer know that oxygen flow has been interrupted or has become inadequate for the continued climb ?
@EvilSmonker5 жыл бұрын
It does measure your O2 levels, not sure if you can set an alarm but I'd be surprised if it couldn't.

So i'm gliding now for a while and was looking for this kind of watch. Do you think this can be handy for gliding or is it mostly for motorized airplanes? Very good review! greetz from the Netherlands

@Mypilotstore10 жыл бұрын
Yes, the database can be updated at any time via a download from fly.garmin.com. However, updates are really only needed when airports are opened or closed.
