Been a little while Bud! So I just decided to improve my deployment setup a bit, by adding VSGA to my view desktop pool. Picked up a pair of quadro 4000's for a reasonably cheap price, and am now getting ready to move some internal nics to slot them. Had to get my hands on a pair of PCI-E risers, which was easy, and when the install came, i was like oh man, these cards actually need supplemental power! Been searching for the 8-6pin cables and of course your page came up! Seeing how easy it was for you to make those cables, maybe i will also embark down that path! As usual, thanks for your quality informative videos!

Hi Shinkamui Du you have a link for the riser card you are getting ,,, I like that to,,if it's x16 Thank you for watching! :-)
@ShinKamuiAkaKamui8 жыл бұрын
well, I got them from an ebay seller, but they're essentially the same as this: www.primelec.com/ibm-x-series-x3550-m2-m3-pci-e-x16-low-profile-riser-card-43v7066-43w8856. Ran into a huge problem though, the 3650 m3 doesnt' have enough room for gpu's closer to the board. I need full risers, or a riser extension, and I can't find anything. SO CLOSE! Its starting to look like it may not be possible to anything newer than an 8x interface card for graphics acceleration in these systems. Since vGPU and sVGA are extremely picky about which cards you use, Im not sure what i can do short of abandon the IBM architecture and move toward some HP or Dell Servers...
@MyPlayHouse8 жыл бұрын
HI Shinkamui Yes that is for the x3550 M2/3 not realy the x3650 M2/3... I have this in order: amzn.to/1Z3TULy I getting it from Aliexpress, but same thing. If it is any good you will see a video :-) If you find something,, do tell me. Thank you for watching! :-)

I predict this will be a very popular video since many, many forums have questions about this. Cutting the PCIe slot is reasonably safe, and you will not notice a performance hit on these 6 pin cards unless you put another 8x or 16x card in that riser that is "always on." These IBM servers have the advantage over the Dell 1950 and 2950 models in that they have PCI power sockets, where the Dell's do not, and external power is needed to install a graphics card. Also, you might check to see if your AMM module still works since graphics cards installed in servers can sometimes cause remote management ports not to work and vice versa. Dell had an huge problem with that as many tinkerers discovered.

Tyler Barton I'm interested in seeing if the IMM is still working as well.
@MyPlayHouse9 жыл бұрын
Hi Tyler Barton Les Garten welllll the IMM do work,,the remote controle,, not so much. :-) I am hoping that there will be Somewhere in Bios/UEFI thing,, where I can choose graphics card. I did not get a look at that. Friday comes a video with PCI-e x16 two PCI-e x1 and a benchmark test. Thank you for watching! :-)

My PlayHouse That's exactly how my Supermico IPMI works. I am skeptical that you will find a fix for it, but hope you do.

Hi, do you or someone else know how much power the 6-pin connector in the x3650 M3 can deliver? Couldn't find anything on the internet...
@MyPlayHouse9 жыл бұрын
Hi +Nick Mahler I googled it and fund : pci-e + 6pin = upto150watts. in addition to the standard 75 given by the pci-e slot the 6 pin will add up to another 75w. Here : www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2332686/power-pin-connector.html I do think i have heard that number before.. Thank you for watching! :-)

My system x3300 m4 freezes entire system at a solid dash in top left corner with my gtx 1660 ti, but not with my gt 1030 or onboard graphics. What bios setting will fix this? Diagnostics even freeze the entire system on the 1660 ti. It worked years ago, and GPU works on other systems. I used a molex adapter for the 8 pin

Hi +Doomed ForLife Well it like the IBM´s,, the X3650 M1 do not, M2 and forward do. It needs the UEFI Bios i have read somewhere.. Thank you for watching! :-)

k so the G6 has UEFI so it does support. I have a line on a G6 very very cheap. Hense why I ask. the IBM are still very very expensive vs the HP line here in Canada. I look at my IBM X335 unplugged. Very slow its a paper weight 1x Xeon 3.06ghz single core 3gb ram. Want it LOL.... pfsense runs on it (not using it atm). Would cost more to ship than its worth......

HI +Robert Dumitru The x3650 M1 can not do pass through in VMware,, the CPU´s do not support VT-d,, which is needed. This is interesting, I don't cant recall if it was a typical IBM server, but months ago, two Nvidia titans were put into one for a cheap scientific computing machine (it was a horrible one, which I said it would be...) Its sad though, because I work at a data center for a hospital ,and they're actually having about of x3650s/M2/M3 destroyed since they want most machines to be M4's and the rest are virtual using cisco equipment. We still have a few dell and Hp but not much. I cant tell you how many DIMMs I've thrown away. The M3's have x5690 cpus as well. Nothing but a waste of good stuff..........

I love how he always calls the male plugs "female" XD males have the parts that stick into things... Even if the metal components inside the connector is technically a circle/hole, the plastic that is the "connector" still "plugs into" things, and thus is male XD but man do I love these vids. Been binge watching evert one for DAYS now!

Hi +Hikari Yes,, i do very often fuck up the gender of the plugs,, and i have also ordered the wrong sex on Ebay ones,, That sucked! +My PlayHouse (Morten Hjorth) I've been curious about dummy plugs. I built a small itx computer inside a shell made from Legos just for the heck of it, and used it as a small file sharing computer for my parents. But it would often fail to fully boot because it wouldn't detect a display to output to, so I couldn't ever remote into it. Thought about using a dummy plug for it, but instead just installed something like freenas instead.

+My PlayHouse (Morten Hjorth) Humm did i get a mail or,,ahhh :-)
@HDFoxra9 жыл бұрын
+My PlayHouse (Morten Hjorth) what are you hoping to use the plug for? From what I understand, it just simulates a screen being attached so the computer will boot fully. Unless IBM servers are different, from my experience a server does that sort of thing already, its why windows 7 boots up fine on a server, but won't fully boot on a normal PC without a display plugged into it.

Hi Uncomfortably Numb "Bouncebackability",, that is a cool word,and very funny. It is very difficult to follow your slang! My PlayHouse Well I heard you use a very English phrase recently. "My Arse" lol so you are not as short on slang as you think. :-) You are right about certain (ahem) body parts having lots of slang names though. We have thousands for those. Haha. BTW I am not as young as you probably think. But I am young at heart. :-P' ' ' ' ' Just for your information. I am also UNumbTV & Hayling Billy I am often logged into all 3 at the same time.
