To get rid of the run make a finger ring size of masking tape with the sticky part out. As soon as you can slowly press the masking tape into the run to remove the excess material.The sooner the better. It is ok if the material is not totally smooth as the paint will smooth out as it dries. You it is better to remove too much than too little. Let the force be with you. Additional coats will also help smooth it out.

Just a recommendation if you have to walk the entire bumper when spraying: when you walk, do a step over (foot over foot) rather than a shuffle step. The gun and spray will be a lot smoother.

hello, good job, my question is, when you started painting you mixed 1:1 paint and reducer than a final spray with the clear coat,,,,my question is once you do the 1:1 ratio don't you have to do another pass with just paint thannn the clear coat, can you clarify please, thank you

Alfredo Azure G you spray paint (basecoat) first. Apply 3 coats or until you cover the repair area. Than wait an hour and mix your clear coat (4:1)and apply 3 coats of that. hope that helped. gl

I’m a complete novice. On the areas you didn’t repair or prime, you used 1500 grit to rough up the clear coat, if I heard you correctly(?). My question is that is enough to allow you to rough the surface to feather in the base coat on the rest of your panel? Thank you or to anyone else who addresses that as I’m trying to learn. Thank you for the video as well.

I have a question,I'm trying to learn to paint a whole car , so I know that for the dent areas you have to sand it down to bare metal, apply body filler and then prime , but what about other areas , do you have to sand them down to bare metal too, if no then what grit should I use to sand them in order to prime and paint

so I'm painting my car for the first time with a spray .... do I have to use sand paper all over bumper? and do I have to use primer?
@DIYApprentice
@DIYApprentice 8 жыл бұрын
How I learned to paint: You have to sand before painting or the paint won't stick. Most people wet sand with 400 to 600-grit paper. If you're going over a painted bumper with no repair work needed, you don't need primer. Any raw plastic should at least be sanded or scuffed then an adhesion promoter for plastics should be applied before priming.

If you look closely at cars on the road most front and rear bumpers won't match the body paint. This is because they paint them separately at the factory. Using slightly different paint.

+t dub not to mention most bumpers on newer cars are plastic. different materials so the paint chemicals have a slightly different interaction. metals promote a sheen better than plastic,

do you still need to sand/re-prime the bumper if it has an existing base coat? example would be if I pulled a white bumper cover from a junkyard and want to re-paint it with silver. Thanks.

Does blending a bumper no matter how well it is done will it end up turning white? is clear coating the whole panel better than blending?
@myRatchets

+Jon Varbero you should always clear coat the entire panel you are repairing. Not sure what you mean by it turning white?

Add up all that had to be purchased: materials and tools. Then consider whether the average Joe can do it right the first time. Then, ... consider the cost to dispose of the left-over chemicals and the clean-up of the spray equipment. Now you see why it's much better to simply take it to a qualified auto body shop. They already have the equipment, materials, paint booths, disposal equipment, knowledge, experience, and, ..... A GUARANTEE AND EXCELLENT RESULTS!!!

I totally agree wit you. Thats one thing that I dont like. When people try to discourage others who are willing to learn how to do things own their own.Yeah, the job may not be perfect the first time, but people learn as they go and eventually learn how to master the skill if they practice enough. And whether you have to spend a little money on extra materials, acquiring the knowledge is well worth it.@@ELY-qg2vn
