So many Hondas have been hacked on. And the cars themselves command a price premium, even for a beater. I was stunned by how much a guy offered for a neighbor's 2003 Civic that had been hit.

I have had 3 beetles with the 1.8T manual. They give great visibility with the back seat down and can be had rather cheap. They do have issues. The biggest one is that the car is a pain to work on. Best entry level car with tuning potential is going to be a RWD car. The ability to actually work on things in your driveway on a weekend will let you tackle general maintenance and upgrades more often. What you run is going to vary by your taste. From a Miata to a BMW M5 with a few Nissan's and v8 Chevy's thrown into the mix starting with RWD is going to make modifying and tuning much easier.

Personally I would stick with a honda if you plan on getting a first tuner. They're cheap, reliable, and easy to work on. Even if you don't buy a car with vtec, you can always swap the head on them and slap a turbo kit on it.

Hey @RatchetsAndWrenches , I know that you've been working on engines for a long time. Thus, what can you tell me about the EW10 J4S engine from the PSA group. Is it reliable ? Is it cheap ? And most importantly, can you turbocharge it ? (If not, are there other options among the PSA engines ?)

Oh carnalito, that VW is gonna send you to the cleaners. By the time any little part breaks. I’ll stick to the hondita you can buy engines all day for about $350 good time to get a set of rods cams and valve springs. Then add a decent turbo and I still think you will be below the price of the VW that is in good shape especially with a working turbo. You know they leak, bearings burn out etc. the only problem that is greater in the Hondita than the VW is theft.
@PeterFeltersnatch8523 жыл бұрын
When he was talking about the engine sludge he forgot one of the main things put a catch can on the car!!! Due to being direct injected and the gas not spraying the valves they get clogged up and will require maintenance the remedy as he would say would be a catch can. Also turbo timers are super cheap if you put a turbo timer on your car this will also help and keep you from sitting your ass in a seat when you get home and want to go straight in the house. Besides that pretty good video 👍👍

Hi I have an 03 Lincoln Town Car 2v 4.6l with 140k. The car runs like a clock 99.9% of the time. However sometimes when idling at full operating temperature it starts misfiring bad (PO354 cylinder 4 ignition coil primary/secondary circuit). Then will go away after a minute or so and run perfect again. Changed the plugs with motorcraft platinum and swapped the coil pack from a different cylinder no fix. What would be the next thing to look into? Thanks

I am looking to buy another car, but I want to buy another car with a solid motor and transmission, so I don't have to work on the vehicle all the time. I am looking for a car that can be tuned for more hp for respectable 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. I am thinking of the Camaro V6 or V8 or Dodge Challenger or Nissan 350 Z or anything you would suggest under $10,000 dollars. I love the 5.7 350 and turbo motors because I agree with what you said. You can tune some of them very easily without changing the internals to forged which is expensive normally to my knowledge thank you.

My brother, I NEED your HELP!!! I have a 110k mile 2011 Honda Accord LE model. My issue is when the engine is cold and I turn on the ignition, the engine makes a loud 5 second rapid knocking noise but then immediately sounds like a smooth engine with a regular engine tone. If I was to turn on the cold engine making the loud knocking noise and quickly turn it off and then turn it back on the sound is gone and the engine has the normal engine tone once again. This seems to be confusing and I am not trying to spend a ton of money on trial and error. PLEASE help me with any suggestions. ...... Thank you in advance and keep up the in depth awesome content.

Another excellent video telling it straight. VW engines and German engines generally are great if you do the maintenance and are willing to concede that maintenance items on them would be considered repair items on other cars. But they sure are more fun to drive than boring durable cars from the land of the Rising Sun.😉
@RockYouVideos3 жыл бұрын
VW are not reliable or fun to work on. Yes, the performance is there but so what. I just did control arms on a 2000 Jetta VR6 6spd. Annoying clearance issues having to lift the engine. On top of that hassle, one of the lower arm nuts inside the subframe broke loose. It was held on with a dab of adhesive not welded on. A common issue apparently.Pathetic. Also replaced the alternator which means taking off the entire front fascia. Major annoyance.
