I think I will start something similar now. Is it the middle of the year? Yes. Do I care? No. I need some joy in my life right now and you offered the perfect inspiration to start collecting joyful little moments. Thank you :) I really appreciate your art and your thoughts :) And I can relate to being a really anxious, perfectionistic and overly over thinking person. Edit: oh and I would love a longer video.

I started this challenge this year too! And I‘m keeping it almost completely to myself (except showing few pages to friends) because I want it to be a challenge to improve my skills and building the habit of drawing everyday 🌱 So far I only missed very few days and I‘m not pressuring myself to be creative with this project and I‘m really enjoyingit so far:D thanks Myriamme!

I’m often happiest with my art when I’m not overthinking the technicals and let go of my worries, and it’s often done with nothing more than a pen in a school notebook or scrap paper.

It's very hard, yes, haha, which is why I tend to treat it more like a "try to draw when you can" these days rather than a strict every day challenge :).

Your work, even in a daily sketch practice, is exceptional. Thank you so much for posting. It has been a while since you have on KZbin. I truly appreciate your work and your point of view as a fellow artist. Your voice reminds me to keep my work genuine and about what I want to say as an artist, and not what I think others want see.

What you have to say about KNOWING these lessons but having to EMOTIONALLY UNDERSTAND them in order to really internalize them is ringing very true for me. Appreciate the talk about being messy and imperfect on social media as well. We can all benefit from the idea that showing a little more of our imperfect process is actually a good thing :) Thanks for making this vid.

Absolutely beautiful and love the commentary of what you've learned through your process. I feel like we all come with this idea of everything that needs to be completed or perfect especially in drawing or any art when sharing on social media, that we forget that sharing incomplete work, mistakes, and lessons that needed to learn are equally important.

All of these things are one of the main reasons I had to step back from Instagram and take a hiatus. (Health also played a big part). After 10 years on instagram I had lost the joy, mostly created for social media and external validation. And I am currently in the process of finding my joy again. Very slowly, because pushing myself will only do the opposite 😂A challenge like this might be good for me in the future!

It's tough, but it's worth it! Social media is particular conducive to merging them but it's worth the practice to make sure we stay true to ourselves. ❤️ Ego isn't a bad thing unless it comes in the way of what is good for us, and in art it's easy to let it reign without realising. Thanks for your lovely comment and wishing you all the best with your art 😊

This is amazing; I love how you incorporated the "final forms" of some of your sketch ideas, and the few pages with the tiny lines and patterns all over them. Your process also made me think about the fact, that how bad I'd beat myself up over missing out days, loosing out on the fun of it and thus never finishing the sketchbook - while you pushed through, and made fun statistics out of it. Real clever and inspiring.

Such an insightful talk. I relate so much to this - I struggle with creating art because I keep expecting every piece to be perfect and beautiful. It's not realistic at all and that causes me not to even start drawing. It seems you understand yourself and is mature enough to recognize the pitfalls almost every artist falls into. Thank you so much for sharing.

I would love to see an image of a very "simplistic/minimalistic" figure painting a self portrait where the self portrait is far more detailed. At least that's a thought that occurred to me whilst watching this video. I do love your sketches.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and realizations about life and art. This is something that can be very personal and complicated, but it's so important to talk about. I relate to many things you said in this video, and since I tend to get stuck in my thoughts and worries it's helpful to know the struggle is not limited to me (although I wish people wouldn't have to struggle). If other artists could figure things out and live through them then so can I.

Just bought a moleskine 18 month one, starting july this year till end of 2024, its a weekly one (1week per doublepage) but I think it will be a good exercise for me doing bi weekly as everyday with a newborn from late August will be hard to keep up with daily, so 🤞for twice a week can keep me creating even when starting this new chapter of life😊

reconnecting to the self... I was in a rut for a few years and I recently began sketching again on a daily basis. What works for me is to not keep any audience in mind. That doesn't mean I can't or won't share any of those sketches with anyone, but it's not on my mind when sketching to publish the sketch once it's done. I don't want that kind of pressure. It's about drawing without the pressure because that allows for joy. And as you say, that feeling of joy is utterly important. A few months in now I'm starting to feel that joy every now and then. I think I may be reconnecting with the self, slowly but steady. The power of habbits!

I would love a longer video with this topic! Currently I'm struggling through a sketch book and I relate so much with the need to make it pretty ;-; I'd love to know what really works for every day doodles, if you have any themes that were more productive for you, did you do any fun drawing exercises on it? Your work is fascinating to me, but I also enjoy you explore your ideas too 🖤

How delightful to find your video in my feed this morning, I've missed you! It's so hard to be so sensitive in this world. I'm super sensitive to everything, visually, aurally, emotionally, socially. It's exhausting and it's why I live in a very remote place. So, I totally understand your lack of self-esteem (even in the face of evidence that says you should be hugely self confident) and your overthinking issues. I could never do this challenge. Partly because my life doesn't work that way and partly because as soon as I think I "have to" do something in my art practice I suddenly don't want to do it at all. I've accepted that I have a groove that produces work that I am happy with and that others whom I respect show great appreciation for even if it doesn't conform to a regular schedule as I would ultimately like. Your diary is lovely. I give you props for doing it in a daily planner. That paper alone would have me going "nope" 🤣🤣. Still, I'm impressed with the variety of media you use in it and still managed to use the recto and verso of the pages. I love the wonky drawings, the missed pages, the various hits and misses. It shows the real artist's journey. It's not a straight path, but a meandering route, sometimes fully paved, other times strictly cross country. Love it.

I’m really happy you made this video. I’ve looked up to you as an artist for so long and I’ve wanted to try this challenge, but my sketching process has always been messy so I didn’t really want to attempt something like this knowing I wouldn’t have a perfect sketchbook. Especially since I’ve started posting on social media ( I’m a tattoo apprentice) , but I really miss just drawing what makes me the happiest so I think I’m going to try this next year 🖤

It is so lovely to hear from you again.❤️ Sharing your struggles and lessons learned always help me to remember why I love drawing, even though I am very bad at it. But I really love the learning aspect of it. I am my own harshest critic that even sometimes keep me from doing anything. Hearing you talking about all your hurdles remind me what is actually important - the joy of the process itself. I wish you a lot of joy and happy moments not only in creating 🙂

I had this practicd for years. In my case I decided a doodle a day or 365 doodles in one year. I also made them tiny and did not share them. Maybe a few spreads that I liked I would post them in my stories. But other than that they were just for me. And the only reason I stopped is becaused I wanted to start drawing larger but thay seemed less realistic to do daily so I allow my self the freedom to draw when I want and how I want now.

Do people really burn out with only drawing 1 or 2 things a day? I find that unlikely, although that is just me. I understand that rest is necessary to avoid burn out, however, 1 or 2 things a day should be acceptable without resting, right?
