My biggest issue with these types of influencers is that they make completely reasonable arguments only to conclude with the wrong conclusions. It's true, being fat is not ideal. It'a controllable and you should aim to live at a healthy weight. But what I don't get is why the judgemental behaviour? You don't know what is going on in one's life. Depression, grief, illness etc., you don't knoe what someone is going through, so why not treat them with compassion? Again, just because your argument is sensible, it does not mean your conclusion is.

Lmao stop it. The VAST majority of obesity is entirely brought on themselves. Whatever bullshit excuses people have for obesity is exactly that: a bs excuse. If you're using mental struggles as an excuse for obesity you're actually proving the very point Myron just made. "I'm so sad" is a pathetic excuse for why you're eating mcdonalds 6x a week. This body positivity bs and acceptance is breeding lazier and fatter people and buffoons sit on the side going "oh maybe their life is hard!" Newsflash: everyone's life is f*ing hard. I've spent over a decade working as a CPT on the side and have worked with hundreds of obese people. Not ONE single one of them had a valid excuse for being obese. Tough love hurts... but every person that stuck with me appreciated sincerely and all said they never realized how much people around them enable their unacceptable behavior. People like you are attributing to this crap
@motalkbadazs
@motalkbadazs 2 ай бұрын
are you one of those "the diagnosis is correct but the treatment isn't" believers. Youre basically repeating what other podcasts have said. Your idea isn't original but I don't fully disagree. As fully grown adult men, we should understand that people who aren't our friends don't owe us compassion. Sure, our friends should be brutally honest and help us lose weight and get stronger objectively (aka being a MAN). Sometimes kids need to fall and scrape their knee and toughen it out. We'll throw peroxide on it later but GET UP NOW. Have the talk with your son later and kiss him on the forehead as reassurance. They don't need compassion in every single moment of their lives or else they'll always seek to be coddled and the real world coddles nobody.
@Richard_kg
@Richard_kg 2 ай бұрын
@motalkbadazs first of all, I don't follow podcasts that much, so neither do I know nor care if it's not an original point, nor do I identify as a believer in any idea whatsoever. My ideas are mine and mine at all, even if people said it before me. Second of all, there is a line between compassion and cynicism. Some degree of push is fine, but saying "you're fat, I'm disgusted and you have no excuse for it" definitely falls under the latter. Remember that it's called "tough love" and not "toughness" for a reason. You're not automatically the mature one in the room just because you "say it like it is" with no compassion. Edit: while it is true other people may not owe us compassion, if they don't owe us compassion, then they also don't owe us judgement.

You can treat people with decency while still acknowledging that they are doing themselves an incredible disservice by not controlling their eating habits and fitness level. Their lives are likely to be shorter, which means less time with loved ones and less time to reach their potential. Their quality of life will be diminished since they aren’t likely to have the energy and strength to fully enjoy it. Their opportunities in romance and career are diminished. Physical attractiveness matters, like it or not. A fit body signals discipline and work ethic and many employers notice this subconsciously. Most people don’t treat an overweight individual poorly out loud; they likely just judge them silently. We all judge each other mentally, and being very overweight can disqualify you from lots of things, including a job or romantic partner. On top of that, most people will do this while smiling and treating the person very kindly. I just don’t get this things about who cares about being fat, just “treat people with respect”. Don’t you understand that people can be kind, treat you with respect, and STILL disqualify you based on the fact that you’re overweight? They will treat you with kindness and decency and then pick someone. To hell with fake kindness. I would rather receive some harsh truth, take some action, and improve my life.

That dude better hope he never gets any older and never gains any weight. With that attitude, he’s gonna wind up offing himself because he won’t be able to handle the fact that he can’t live up to the standards he’s set. Life happens. Injuries happen that keep you from being ultra fit. I was an athlete all my life. Worked construction and building maintenance and was able to maintain a decent weight. Then i destroyed two discs in my back and can’t be as active anymore. Some pounds came on. But here’s the thing: if all you care about is how you look and staying in shape and that’s the only way you can live with yourself then you’re setting yourself up for some major disappointment in life. You don’t have to enjoy being overweight, but if you can’t enjoy being yourself no matter what size you are then you’re a pretty shallow and pathetic human being.
