The reason why the birds increased on Possession Island is because we do not use DNT any longer. The same reason we have an increase in geese, eagles, and other birds. The DNT made the shells so thin the birds could not survive to maturation.

Well, David, you see when a mommy penguin and a daddy penguin love each other very much, they do this special thing called "mating" and then they have baby penguins and when the baby penguins grow up, they come back to their birth place to find a mate I their very own. Even if a whole lot get eaten, a whole lot live and after so many years, you're bound to have staggering numbers. Obviously they're doing a great job. You're welcome!

The more we know about them, the more we can do to conserve the species. Nothing in this documentary hurt them; swallowing the tracker was uncomfortable at worst, but they eat fish larger than that, so it wasn't painful or especially bad. It looks horrible to us because we don't swallowing things whole, so we anthropomorphize them
