For me, THIS game is the only piece outside of comics to get Mysterio correct. He was insane, egotistical, and took joy in torturing Spiderman. And Darran Norris' high, annoying pitch along with the psychotic laught he gave him is EXACTLY how mysterio should sound. This is the mysterio i can see that would go so far as murdering an innocent baby or make peter think aunt may is dead just to screw with him (yes he actually did these things).

Frankly I think this game nailed more than just mysterio. Venom is at his best in this game and D. Bradley Baker did amazing with Rhino and Carnage. Not to mention actually getting Stan Lee himself to voice the level intros.

Well, I always imagined him being probably Spidey's most challenging enemy (though that belongs to Green Goblin or Venom). Think about how many times he was to be the final boss in every Spider-Man game. He was the antagonist/final boss of Friend or Foe, Shattered Dimensions and he was gonna be final boss of a cancelled game.

Time period affects so much on musical style. You are quite right though, boring "epic and emotional" orchestra has made videogame musics boring. One reason is always the same these days: mass appeal. This theme has 90's written all over it. Very crunge and also nu metal sounding.
