The very fact that most houses in Pompeii contained a lararium is proof enough that religious practices were not confined to public places and temples. Domestic worship was the norm and not an exotic exception.

"That Change Everything" (from the title) - no, the discoveries do not change everything. They're neat, add to our knowledge of that era of the Roman culture in that region, and are worth the mention. But they don't change everything we know about Pompeii.

Always overwrought conjecture re religious significance attached to everything. Amphorae obviously stored upside down in what may or may not be a chapel room. It is presumptive to say this room is sacred in any way. And if it ever was, it was last used for storage. People were no more fervently religious than they are now. People are people, at any time in history. Too much conjecture.
@TheDanEdwards

"People were no more fervently religious than they are now." - and yet if you go from place to place today, you can easily observe that some local cultures express more religiosity than others. And while magical thinking is part of us, some cultures give into that more than others.

Most houses in the Roman civilisation had a domestic shrine. It’s not a stretch to see this room with niches could have been a shrine.

The storyline ASSUMPTIONS stated as “fact” is alarming. We haven’t realized who we used to be or why, but we will wield a storyline that sounds good to back the expected narrative history being propagandized over the entire world.

Where did they get the pigments to color paint? How did they make paint?
@TinkerTaylor-zv1ml
@TinkerTaylor-zv1ml 2 ай бұрын
They made pigments by turning minerals in powder and adding a binding material. In the renaissance they used egg to bind the pigments and later oils. I don't know what they used in antiquity. Blue was especially expensive because it was made from lapis lazuli, that had to be imported from the region that is Afghanistan today. The name of the colour is ultramarine, literally meaning "(from) over the sea".

6:18 - That's one strange "deer." Painting obviously incomplete, making it more mysterious. - Why does it seem more like a female? - Is the "V" above the head, truly antlers? Unlikely. - Is it rather, an antelope? (Horns do not fork.) - What is the white swirl over the legs? Smoke? Ribbon? Spirit "essence?" A depiction of a magic spell? A rope/lasso? - Lasso perhaps, as there's a strange white "O" behind the head. - What streams behind the head? Looks like pheasant feathers. - Perhaps this is a depiction of the "Golden Hind?" (The creatures who's blood could kill gods.) - Unlikely anything to do with Diana. Naples Bay was cosmopolitan, and Romans just weren't that into hunting. Deer were an agricultural pest. - A hind however...that's an interesting mythological drama for a spiritual room. - Note how the highlights are too harsh, and not blended into the shadows. No details on the "horns." - Since it is unfinished, we may never know the answer to what this creature is supposed to be. - I wonder, also, if the two "floating" figures were completed first, up on a ladder. Next step, down lower, adding the mountain tops they were supposed to stand upon. LIkely, a lush landscape of bounty / wine orchards, perhaps even Naples Bay area itself. Other frescos depict the local area as a landscape. Chilling, to think the figures may have been intended to be standing on Vesuvio itself.
