This movie turned into a comedy halfway through because of how ridiculous the storyline became. It was as if every new event in the movie had to top the previous one in craziness.

Roland Emmerich knows full well what he’s doing when he makes these movies. Every single one of his films has to top the last in sheer batshit insanity. This may very well be the peak of his career, the most deranged thing he’s ever made. Unless he comes along and tops this, it might be the most absurd and self fulfilling big budget sci fi movie of the past 50 years

@dkoz8321 2 жыл бұрын
I have not seen this film. Apparently not many have either. If moon is close enough to start pulling ocean water of Earth's surface , it will also pull atmosphere, creating an extreme low pressure weather system. As atmospheric air rushes into low pressure , extreme weather events would take place. A hypercane , a supersonic hurricane, would be one. Wind speeds in excess of 600 mph. Tornadoes and cyclones in excess of F5. For certain moon superproximity would create gravitational tidal forces on Earth's crust, accelerating continental drift, causing exaggerated earthquakes, volcanic eruptions. End of the world type events. The enlarging proximity of moon will cause extreme solar eclipses and magnified solar occlusion effects, as loser moon casts a shadow , reducing amount of light reaching Earth. If moon broke up due to gravitational tidal forces and forms a ring around Earth's equator, reduced sunlight and permanent gravitational effects , but spread out across equatorial surface. Eventually many pieces would enter Earth's atmosphere causing bolide collisions . Multiple extinction level collision events , but happening in succession across centuries or millenia. Earth would become uninhabitable to life. At least not to life as we currently have. Last time Earyh was subject to that level of bolide bombardment, was 4.5 billion years ago after proto-earth collided with proto-planet Thea. The result was our Earth and moon. That bombardment seeded Earth with water and basic amino acids and minerals that Eventually formed first life.

Roland Emmerich's movies are such popcorn binge inducing. Actually physics are somewhat respected since the moon's mass is altered, it's outer shell is destroyed, revealing its inner core at the end. But sure the tidal wave is "weird" as it can lift water but not as much rip the atmosphere apart, yet oxygen is depleted, leading to the death of one of the secondary character. The moon up close can lift cars like it counters Earth's own gravity like is has now weaker than the moon's. But again, it is "normal", it's a Roland Emmerich's movie after all. Was great and fun to watch.

well, the AI shown in this film is smaller than the past one, so maybe they had emps but not suitable ones. Think about it, the AI was probably smart enough to build EMP resistant nanobots. Why did this one work? probably because the moon designed one specifically to kill it.
@XxTaiMTxX
@XxTaiMTxX Жыл бұрын
It is likely that the EMP technology did exist, but the movie explains that the AI was "everywhere, it was in every facet of life and used for everything". That was how it was even able to rebel in the first place. Humanity of the past tried absolutely everything they could think of to combat the AI, and nothing proved effective. In the end, their only solution was to create Ark Ships to reseed their species and "safeguard them" to some extent. Basically... just hide them. The AI onboard the Moon even states that "this is just a tendril" of the other AI. A small portion of it that was dispatched to wander the galaxy in search of humanity. It was a small enough swarm that it COULD be stopped with an EMP... but they had to come very close to a failure point for that to even work. Even then, it almost didn't. It's always weird to me how many people didn't watch the actual movie, but instead watch a "recap" which omits lots of details for a "rough synopsis" and then go, "but... X doesn't make sense!". I mean... if you watched the movie and paid attention... yeah it does. Despite how absolutely bonkers pretty much every Emmerich film ends up being, the man has a lot of "attention to detail" in just telling a story. Does he not know how physics work? Yes. Does he take a lot of artistic license with things for the sake of stunning visuals? Absolutely. Does he not care about "how does this make sense from a larger worldbuilding standpoint"? Absolutely not. But, he will tell you a tight and contained story that works only on the internal level and do it well. Every plot point within his movies is explained within his movies and all contingencies to what someone might "nitpick" about the story are covered within the story. It's a complete tale, even if the larger implications of a universe outside the movie renders it all nonsensical.

I hate when movies show a smaller than earth object overpowering earth's gravity, making people start to fall upwards towards it. There's a dwarf star at the center of the moon in the movie. And they've built dyson sphere to harness it's energy. I believe no one is stupid enough here not to know that if an object needs to become a star it has to be atleast 80 Jupiter masses. And white dwarf is the end of the star when it begins it's cool down from the white drawf to a black dwarf. So it's a mega structure which should have enough control and density to move back to it's position. The science is complete BS I'll agree to that but I love the Dyson sphere part ngl.

Eh. Its not impossible for a dwarf star to be that small, and the only requirement for that is a relatively small amount of matter in the star to begin with. Alright to be honest me myself a space nerd is also mad about the whole deal of the moon even making it to the earth as everyone else is complaining but I mean, it’s a movie, plus everyone watching it would probably be disappointed just to see the moon not actually crash so the director probably made it like this to make it more exciting, but at least they got the birds falling dead first right since canary birds need twice as much oxygen to survive than humans or birds in general just need more oxygen to survive so I guess that’s kind of right, though about the atmosphere being sucked by the moon is a little bit off :/
