This is the cemetery where Lloyd William Barker is buried.. He was one of the infamous outlaws on the Ma Barker Gang. He has quite a story to tell!

That cemetery needs new owners . That is horrible those headstone are in bad condition and they should be held responsible for the head stones period and should replace them at their cost . And to make matters worse a flags on the ground is really bad . I'm so angry right now . Thank you for pointing out all of this . So much disrespect . 🥺

It’s sad because it’s a beautiful cemetery. Cemeteries need to respect our men and women of our military! They fought for our freedom so we can live free. I guess some of us are old school when it comes to the military.

Looking for gravesites can definitely be frustrating! And I must be so difficult to maintain some of these old cemeteries if they aren’t making money. It’s too bad that the local historic societies in every town around the country don’t do more. I bet there are a lot of cemetery lovers all of the country who would love to help maintain cemeteries if there were groups or organizations or clubs they could join to do it. Maybe there are and I just don’t know about it. Thanks for sharing this Rhetty!

It is difficult for some of these cemeteries to maintain the grounds. This one is still very much active. Perhaps they need to charge a little more I'm not sure. If I lived closer I would certainly do more in it. I uncovered about 4 graves and then partially uncovered 20 or so more. This cemetery was truly a mess in more than one way. I hated to make them look bad but I really didn't have to. There has to be a logical explanation for all of it but I hope it's just that the owners switched and the new ones are trying to get it in better shape. Thank you for watching Steve!

I am certainly having a hard time grasping why it was in that state of condition. I would hate to see something like that on a family member or friend. @@RhettyforHistoryI have never heard of a tree company doing that without authorisation from a cemetery first, but who knows. Would be nice to know if they get fixed. I sure hope so.
@RhettyforHistory
@RhettyforHistory 3 жыл бұрын
Some of those markers were older in places and probably didn't have anyone around more than grandkids at best. It's possible the tree company was given authorization but started before they were supposed. If so that should be a lawsuit or a claim on that company's insurance. With the amount of dirt that was needed in places combined with markers being covered up it really says that there was neglect in the cemetery. I keep leaning towards the hope that some owners changed. Maybe management.

Sad to see that those graves are like that. There's a old country cemetery outside of my town called Waterhole Cemetery. Years ago grandpa and I went down there on the tractor to get a bois arc tree off of some graves where it had fell after a bad storm. We used some heavy duty straps to set the markers back on the stands. Maybe that cemetery could do something like that with that grave by the tree stump. Another great video Rhetty. I don't know much about the Barker gang compared to John Dillinger or Pretty Boy Floyd and Bonnie and Clyde.

Thank you for watching and it is good to hear what you and your grandfather did. That is an interesting name for a cemetery too. Is it right by a creek? This cemetery could certainly use some help like that. It looked as thought these had been like this longer than a month. Some of the bark in places was turning colors even. I didn't shoe all the damage but some are so cracked from that they need additional repairs other than resetting. I uncovered so many markers in trying to find Lloyd. I have to wonder if he has a marker and it's just covered up. If I lived there I would do more but I spent hours in that cemetery. Just want enough time nor did I have the right equipment. I was just using a stick and hands.

Depending on the dates, a reason for so many Japanese people in the cemetery is that there was a Japanese internment camp in south east Colorado during WWII. Lots of American citizens of Japanese decent were forcibly relocated to Camp Amache near Granada, CO among other camps around the US from all over the west coast. That area is pretty sparsely populated though so it would make sense that those people, after being released, would move to the Denver area if they couldn't or didn't want to make it back to their old towns.

I am not sure but that Cenotaph is in the cemetery where his brothers and mother are buried in Oklahoma. But I don't know if the marker is still there. There is a missing piece of paper. They are on the north side of the cemetery straight north of the gate. But it was my guess that Barker is buried in Colorado. The marker in Oklahoma was simply added. I don't think his body was ever moved. but the local Miami Oklahoma undertakers might have records if moved. FYI - Bruner's Cemetery is in the Vinita cemetery. Heck Bruner was a famous lawman. Buried there was a guy named Goodman - unmarked - aka "The Fagen of the Cookson Hills" - killed in a shootout south of Grove after robbing the Ketchum bank.

I hope they kept track of where those head stones belong if their intentions are to put them back. I am also wondering why they didn't set those aside before removing the tree. Head stones aren't given away, people have to pay for those, it just shows no respect what so ever. The flat head stones are run over by lawn mowers, the heads stones have deep scratches which destroy the names/dates on them, and pictures that may be on them. In some cemeteries you are not allowed standing head stones, so they can mow. Thanks Rhetty, you couldn't find the grave site, but opened something that needs attention.

If the cemetery wasn't in such poor shape I'm not sure I would have done a story there. I spent hours in that cemetery and I really didn't show much of the damage. Just a small part. The simple thing would have been to take photos of where everything is, move the markers, remove the trees, then place the markers back. I really don't understand and some of them looked like they had been there for a couple months or more. I can't tell you how many markers I uncovered with just a stick and hands. I didn't have the right tools as we just didn't have room to take them. SIR!!!! I just saw another video of where Lloyd is buried. Ma Barker and other brothers are there as well. They're all in Oklahoma. Most of them had the funeral home markers at one time and are still there but also have actual headstones now. But I hope you see this. But Lloyd is definitely there. I saw it. Good luck and thank you for the hard work. I can send you the link to the video if you want.

I am familiar with that cemetery which is in Welch. Lloyd is most certainly not in that cemetery. Someone has placed a funeral home marker there Asa cenotaph. What confused me is I didn't realized they uploaded that to both the memorials on findagrave for each cemetery. I will definitely be doing more on that cemetery in Welch later this year. Thank you for watching.

I am the caretaker of a Catholic cemetery and have been to hundreds of cemeterys over the years and many of them are like that, they are sunken, stones falling over, overgrowth etc. If we want them to be pristine its gonna take a lot of money, or volunteers, neither of which seem to be in great supply, I get complaints from people about stones that are leaning or sunken spots, and when I explain to them that I am only one person, and that theres very little money for the upkeep of the cemetery they just say oh, but not a one of them volunteers five minuets of their time or ten cents of their money even though its their ancestors that are buried there. If Ive learned one thing over the years, people love to complain, but generally arent willing to do much to change things.

I for one am one of the volunteers of cemeteries. I've been in a lot of cemeteries over the years and i really don't see many like this one. I understand how difficult it is with only one caretaker and limited funds. The graves were severely neglected in this one. It doesn't take a whole lot to putaccess dirt on top of a sinking grave and it it was a little then I would understand but we are talking a lot. I should have went back over to show how deep that one was. And if you have to take up the decorations to mow and edge I understand that too as many cemeteries have a two week rule. But do you leave them pushed up against trees with the flags and flowers faded and grass growing thru them? Do you pull trees up and damage the markers leaving them to stay there while planting a new tree on limited funds?

No it wasn't. I'm not sure who she was married to before or what happened to that husband but it does have me curious. I know it is a different time period but it makes me wonder why she was with him, why she stayed with him and why she married him. She sure leather kids in a mess. I'm not exactly sure what became of them afterwards. Obviously they couldn't go to his mother or family so maybe the went to hers. Thank you for watching!

I've tried to find Lloyd's and Jennie's actual marriage record, but thus far have not found it. It SHOULD be in the records there in Colorado. She had previously married William Wynn in New York prior to their move to Colorado about 1945. Her maiden name was Ferrell, but I've not yet found out who her parents were.

I can see where maybe Ronald changes his last name to Fiore and the Virginia's last name is Bare. Not sure if hers was an adopted last name or a married name. I think I see several things on Ronald where he sort of used both names. Living in Denver and Pueblo. It appears he was a musician. I've hit dead ends on both and sure can't find anything on the kids that Lloyd had.

@@RhettyforHistory Now that I'm not sure of, but guess it's possible. I'd have to try to get a copy of Jennie's death certificate to see if there's any info on who her parents were, and where they were from. I can't find her on the 1930 census. She and her husband are in NY in 1940.

It's possible that it may have happened that way. But before they chipped it up and planted new trees it would have been better to place the markers back. Dirt in the low lying graves would also be good. This cemetery had several issues that were caused from neglect.

That I do not know. Since the Barker family was all gone I would assume that her kids from the precious marriage went to her family or possible her ex's. I would think that the two they had together went to her family but I can't find anything on any of them. It's possible they were placed in a foster home or adopted out. Ultimately they were the ones who suffered. Thank you for watching!
