I saw the Doors in June of 1968, at the Merriweather Post Pavillion, outside of Washington DC. I was 14 years old. My dad drove me and my friend to the show and sat in the parking lot reading the paper until it was over. What a dad! A band called Earth Opera opened for them that I knew nothing about. I found out years later that David Grisman was in that band. The Doors came out and the lights went down. There was a strange smell in the air, sweeter than tobacco. That was the first time I ever smelled marijuana. Jim was still the Lizard King, clean shaven and wearing black leather. The third album had just come out and they performed the entire Celebration of the Lizard suite but he changed some of the verses, kind of like Dylan does when singing live. Jim didn't seem drunk or impaired , and didn't do all the leaping and falling down like in later years. I remember that , during the long instrumental middle part of Light My Fire, he just went to the side of the stage and waited to come back and sing the ending. That was my first rock concert. Many more came later, but I remember this one like it was yesterday. RIP Jim.

You're lucky! ❤ James Douglas Morrison left this planet-- allegedly, publicly, anyway --not that long after I arrived, in my new Earthly body. I never saw them perform live. In this incarnation, anyway. It's one of those things I wish I could have experienced. If he has truly left his body, may he rest in Peace, Perfection, Freedom, & Joy, for Eternity, with God.💗 I look forward to meeting him, someday, when I cross that Rainbow Bridge myself. Meeting him & Charlie Watts, & Gram Parsons, & even Hunter S Thompson, & Karl Marx, Mikhail Bakunin, Pyotr Kropotkin, & Eugene Debs, Leon Trotsky, & Emma Goldman, the Parsons (both of them), & Ernesto "Che" Guevarra, Subcommandante Marcos, Fidel, Woody Guthrie, Joe Hill, & Jesus, & my precious babies who didn't get to make it to Birth, & seeing my Mommy again-- these are People to Whom, I look forward to (re-) meeting, when I return Home, someday. I look forward to Reunion with my Very Best Friend, my Dearest Love, my Most Intimate Lover & Belove-- my Dear Creator --the *_~most~_* of course. 💗 But, there are many Times, Places, People, things, & Events that I look forward to (re-) meeting & exploring, when I'm freed from the limits of Time, Space, & the body someday. There is much to which to look forward, in this Life, & in The Next.❤ Inshallah. Alhamdulilla! Praise the Lord! Hare Krishna! Thank you, my dear Lord Jesus.❤

Tres bon docu, merci.

I write this with JDM's collected works in front of me, coincidentally. Having been fascinated with his music & story since 1984, I've seen all the docs and dramatizations on this subject, and read the myriad of books on his life. I say that only to lend weight to my effusive praise for this exceptionally well done film. It's easy to get details wrong, or omit small but important pieces of info. There's very little missing here, and the people interviewed are exactly the people you'd want to have talked to (save for Pamela). The footage was excellent. I believe that alcohol was his ruin, but disloyal Pam was the source of his pain, and ultimately it was his loyalty to her that weakened him. Was he murdered rather than died? There is some evidence to that effect... He was, after all, considered an enemy of the State by that time. But we'll likely never know. He made himself vulnerable, at the least. I think that his is certainly the most dramatic, romantic, tragic and mythic story in all of rock n' roll history. Really enjoyed this, thanks for posting.

As the saying goes, "Life is short and desires are endless," I believe that maybe Jim Morrison is still aspiring for music and fulfilling his dreams. Through Jim's stage, I became interested in the invisible world. He was not just an attractive artist, but a wizard who broke the boundaries between life and death and connected the new world. His songs, which project a lot of religious significance and magic, are very ironic. Sometimes you might say that his stage is aggressive and violent, but inside Jim Morrison's songs are peaceful and comforting.

About twenty years ago, I spent a few days listening only to Dylan and the Doors, and I realized how much more love there is in Jim's lyrics than in Dylan's. This is interesting. I suspect Dylan would have jettisoned the destructive Pam Courson pretty early on. Jim, on the other hand, though as unfaithful to Pam as she was to him, was a romantic.

Excellent documentary. The guys "... in dark clothes " that took him out of the club were hired. The woman that was there is unafraid to speak after all these years. Jim screwed up, and was a mess at that point anyway. The truth comes out after many years as most people have passed on. It was announced on the scoreboard at Shea Stadium during the Humble Pie/Grand Funk Railroad concert in NYC in between acts. A hush came over the crowd. A sad ending to a brilliant poet/ performer. It happens everyday with Fentanyl to people now. But they're not famous. Some don't even know they're taking it. But their friends and family do afterward.😔

The more details I get I don't like Pamela. She was there in Paris pursuing her love interest shooting smack with him on Jim's dime. That's where her idea to go to Paris came from. Jim probably knew but didn't make too much about it. When he got mad at Pamela he just probably thought she is just one of many and nothing really to get upset about. When the time came she could be replaced. She knew it too. He loved her though. Had he lived their relationship would have been over before mid decade.

@@angelasanchez4413 yes. Unfortunately he was an emotional defendant of Pam. You don't need drugs for that but for Jim it was one of the reasons for that dependency and Pam took advantage of it where she could. It was Jim's weakness and she exploited it. Look at myself at that age. I didn't have the confidence in myself or in my communication like Jim had. But I wasn't on drugs and emotionally dependent on someone else. I grew up listening to the doors. I got hooked on their music when I was about 10. This is definitely the best documentary I’ve seen. Now it makes sense about his death. The person who touched the bath water and said it was warm. Warm water had to be added before people arrived because Pamela said that she saw him in the tub at night before she went to bed. The water should’ve been cold in the morning.i believe he was taken from the nightclub, back into his apartment. The club was scared of being closed down. And the dealers were shitting bricks. Jim was in poor health but listening to what other eyewitnesses have said. An autopsy should’ve been performed. I know some people will say,it doesn’t matter now. Well it matters because it’s not just a documentary. Listening to my favorite band and reading Jim’s poetry. Gives me a better idea on what really happen. R.I.P Ray And Jim.

Ironically, I was traveling across country for a month with my parents and we probably were in California at the end of June 1971 visiting relatives near L.A.. Didn't know The Doors at the time. However, quite easily, they would become my favorite band. Remarkably, I was only seven years old, but I sensed the warmth and the looseness (and even coolness) of the hippie generation even then; and eventually, we headed to El Paso, Texas and then back to Philly. Much later, obviously, I thought of myself pretty much as a 'writer' even though I had other identities, and I wrote a book of Transcendentalist poetry called Seeking and a collection of short stories called Soul Kitchen. Wonder where I got that title from?????

The Morrison family had had Jim's actual body moved to an anonymous tomb but I wanted to see the place of pilgrimage. I couldn't find it. Pere Lachaise is a virtual city of the dead. I wandered around, unable to sit down for the puddles of water. Exhausted, leaning against a tomb, I looked up to see between my outstretched fingers a graffito: "Where the f*ck ARE you, Jim?"..... Eventually I found it. There was nothing left of all the tokens left by adulation, the statues and flowers, nothing but a puddle of water with a cigarette butt floating in it. He lives in his legacy.
