My translation of the gun was that he wanted to hurt her before he got hurt again. The gun ended up in her hands as he expected but she didn’t pull the trigger because she actually loves him. In the end he’s still damaged goods and ends up hurting himself anyway. 🤷‍♀️

I listened to this song so many times and only now the meaning of the lyrics comes to me. I've read some explanations, so that's how I see the big picture: the end of a relationship brings with it moments of reflection, resentment and then, eventually, acceptance. You go from connecting with someone on a deeper level to becoming complete strangers again. Breakups never get any easier no matter the length of your relationship or how many times you do it. The most jarring part about ending a relationship is feeling uncertain about your decision when it's already too late. Have you heard I NEED U by BTS? For me personally, the lyrics of these songs are very similar in meaning, could you watch it? (for the future)

I think with the gun it was metaphorical...Like, "I messed you up by leaving, why don't you mess me up, I deserve it,"... Hence why she wanted to mess him up and shoot him out of frustration, but she just screamed instead... Then he was like, "I DESERVE THE PUNISHMENT FOR BREAKING YOUR HEART, SO WHY DON'T I JUST SHOOT/DESTROY MYSELF IF YOU WON'T BECAUSE I WAS HORRIBLE TO BREAK YOUR HEART!"... He said, "MESS ME UP FOR WHAT I DID TO YOU BY WALKING AWAY AND NOT CONSIDERING YOUR FEELINGS, I DESERVE IT!"... I get that because I've heard the whole album and he basically talks about how he was blind to her pain and she just pretended like she had no pain from his actions and put on a brave face about her pain and hid her pain behind a mask... He was like, "I know I was blind to your pain and just did my own thing and was selfish and played around on you, while you just tried to pretend you were OK and and not in pain and I understand."

I think his exaggerated features and how the video ended with him alone on stage, so pleased with the applause in a sort of manic way was very interesting too. He puts on a face for the public so you can't see what's going on underneath, even when he shows all these alarming suicidal signs in his act, people just take it as a good performance.
