The white snow-capped mountains of Ladakh have a vibrant culture. The Sheena, Balti, and Kashmiri people of Drass form a vibrant cultural landscape in the Kargil district of UT Ladakh.
Sheena people are basically a subsect of the Dard tribal group of people who have a long history. Dards fall under the umbrella of Indo Aryans.

I'm from Gilgit-baltistan(pakistan), we speak shina and balti here.I know the ppl of ladakh speak balti but i never thought in my wildest dreams that shina is spoken anywhere outside gilgit. It really made me amazed. love from gilgit 🙂

No ladakhi people don't speak balti majority almost every one speak purgi and bodhi which is very different then balti language balti people are mixed with shina dardi people and kargil purik people also mixed with shina people cause many shina people mixed with Tibetan people when they come in7 century before this there is no balti and purgi still may ares name ,s are in shina or shina people names like kargil name himself come from shina person kargi we drassi migrated in 14 century that,s whey we still speak our mother language shina

On this side of border shina people are a tiny minority of 50,000 in jammu and kashmir comprising less than 1% of its population of 10 million and in Ladakh they number around 25000 making up less than 10% of the small population of around 3,00000 of ladakh region..

I have met lots of Balti people in kargil they are a little shy and have a timid body language and lack self confidence because they mostly resemble Mongolians and when they see a mainland Indian they feel inferior and weak while the Shina people of Drass look very different they have indo European features and have many European looking people among them and also they have a strong confident and dominant behaviour and body language...

Balti people are less then 2 percent in ladakh purgi and ladakhi ( bodhi ) are majority they didn't mixed with shina people as compare to balti cause balti in skardu region have 70 to 80 percent shina dna shina people lives this area before Tibetan people come to this places like kargil and baltistan you will still find shina ya shina based places names in kargil . Kargil himself is name come from shina person kargi who first settled in kargil poyen baro and many places

no purik language is a dialect of tibeatan language but due to influence of sheen language it got some modifications. and also aryans of batalik language is also a dialect of sheen language as dard language is big and have many dialects most of them is spoken in gilgit and two of them is spoken in kargil.
