Just finished Kengan Ashura, absolutely phenomenal. I can’t get enough of CGI. It does such a great job at choreography and captures the beauty of martial arts as seen in Ohma vs Cosmo when using Judo. Kuroki vs Ohma gave me chills. Only other time that happened was when Cosmo was fighting Akoya. The opening and endings were amazing. I rarely skipped them. And just overall a great season. Only think I have to criticize is the 2D animation, unironically. It doesn’t fit well with the 3D animation, and is very clumsy. Greatest season otherwise

okubo is easily one of my top 3 favorite fighters of kengan. after goalang and raian. man had 1 fight to show something and gave us one of the best fights of the tournaments in the 1st round no less. this was the fight that for me showed kengan won't follow the standard fightingserieplot. the big bad of the tournament usually 1 shots his 1st opponent but then my boi showed up and showed nope you gotta work for that W in this series.

@@razumahiroki9216 this is all true but remember he caught Kuroki off guard with his initial assault (which also wasn't his maximum speed) and Rei wasn't going straight for the kill due his mortality. Kuroki was able to defend Rei due to him being the strongest and most experienced fighter, but honestly between amped full power Rei and Julius, I think Rei comes out victorious most of the time. Even Gizenga mentioned Julius would be fairly easy to kill due to him being nothing but pure muscle. After Julius got hit by Wakas blast core he said "if that got any closer to a vital organ I'd be done for." Of course I believe the fight would be quite close, with potential for either combatant to win.

@@razumahiroki9216 Overall Julius might have similar durability to Wakatsuki, but Julius' strength isn't natural, he abused many drugs to get that strength and as a result has open veins and weaknesses that can be exploited, unlike Wakatsuki. When facing someone who uses raw strength to damage their opponent, small openings aren't an issue, when facing an assassin like Rei who specializes in striking certain areas, Julius will likely have a problem.

Not to D-ride Hatsumi but he's likely higher/stronger than the likes of Gaolang. Hatsumi is someone people doubted Kanoh could even beat. For the most part when fighter enter the ring with Kanoh other fighters are already expecting him to win but that wasn't the case with Hatsumi. Sen was supposed to be an equal to the fang who faught against Gaolang but no-one vould have guessed how much the fang had adapted after that fight hence the one sided beatdown which would have happened to Gaolang too if he had been the one fighting him. The one inch punch took Hatsumi as well as everyone by surprise so its pretty safe to assume fighter besides Kuroki and Ohma would have lost in the same position

Sen is definitely underrated at times, but I'd say as a fighter overall his strength relies on compatibility. Gaolong would definitely be someone capable of defeating Sen as a superior striker with better reach. Sen's lacking in durability and relies on evasion to exploit his opponent's openings, but Gaolong's boxing minimizes openings from his strikes. Especially his jabs. Sen also leverages the arms exclusively in his fights, meaning Gaolong could attack with heavy knee strikes when Sen goes for an attack. I think Sen's only real option would be to go for Stardrop, but Gaolong would be unlikely to provide that opportunity to begin with.

As a master of deffence he had the perfect match up every single time and was able to gradualy adjust to a high lvl of speed over the course of the tournament. Fang's biggest weakness was that his manner of fighting suffered vs dedicated masters. That's why he had such a close fight vs Kaolan, and why he needed to change strategy vs Sen. This is a pretty solid ranking, but I’d personally put Julius a bit lower (2-5 ranks lower though, not a lot). While he is utterly insane physically and has good technical understanding of things relating to martial arts, he isn’t a trained fighter. By his own admission he sees techniques as useless. His weakness would be martial art techniques that subvert his physical strength (Cosmo’s Zone and chokes for example). He relies on being able to one-shot with brute force, but if he can’t (due to the opponent having similar durability or the skill to avoid his untrained strikes) he’s in trouble. Slap some martial arts on him and you basically have Wakatsuki, higher tier. Overall though, I generally agree, and you definitely did a good job of acknowledging the high levels of nuance in the show. Kengan can often be a rock-paper-scissors scenario instead of strict power ranking.

Honestly this was a great and well thought-out list...I have a slightly different ranking for the top 7: 1. Kuroki 2. Kanoh 3. Raian 4. Kaolan 5. Ohma 6. Sen 7. Waka I think Kaolan has too many skills/advantages over ohma, even with his L.A. ability invoked. I think Kaolan got shafted, both in Ashura and early on in Omega for the sake of moving the story in a good way. Waka's losses have only come to Kanoh and Sen when he's in peak form, so I've gotta give Sen the slight nod above Waka.

I still find it ridiculous how with ease in the anime kuroki did beat agito. Basically reminds of the narrator in Baki explaining how Yujiro or any other character has a technique for everyone to counter everything. A hit to the liver basically changed everything and the pause between formless and tactic-Form from Agito (that only was a millisecond pause) was enough for Kuroki to mid-diff Agito. I absolutely dislike this character and hope Agito stays true to his word and will have revenge one day and absolutely destroy kuroki.

I agree strongly. In fact, I'd say that out of all the characters in Ashura, Wakatsuki had the most impressive narrative backstory exposition about the quantity and quality of fighters he has decimated in the past. Raian might win against Waka, but sure as shit he will be in such a state that even someone like Kaneda or Murobuchi could more than likely knock him out in the very next round.

If you mean just strength wise, of course Waka is better. But fighting is more than just brute strength. And the reason Wake was weaker against Ohma in the fight was because he was injured heavily by Julius, had his recurring ankle injury pop up, and was cautious of Ohma and his Niko style. When he did go all out at the very end, he was punished for it by Ohma's Demonsbane (that's the name in the Manga for Demon Slaughterer). At peak conditions I'd still give the fight to Ohma. Niko style is a good match for someone like Waka and on top of that a peak Ohma would also have his memories plus techniques plus a perfect heart and could probably use Niko style plus advanced. Nothing Waka has except Blast Core can compete with that version of Ohma.

I'd disagree with the Saw Paing ranking. Kaolan only beat him on points. Kaolan got stronger but so did Saw. Saw has a stronger attack with his Hammer of Burma, and has higher durability. In a Kengan match, he'd outlast Kaolan. Chiba also claps Dudley.
