I just did this myself. Found a great low mileage Scat C25 cam/lifters, a good sump, a decent CW 69mm crank (although boogered-up dowels sorta disqualifies it), and lastly a pretty decent engine case. Just got me a 74mm crank to use in it for a 1904 build! Great video!

Looks like a great case and parts to build! I wouldn't be afraid to build that case up into a decent engine it still has a lot of life left in it especially with it being standard thrust. Word on the vz25 cam, my first hot rod motor was a 1641 with the vz25 cam, lightweight lifters, chromoly p/r's, bolt on rockers, compufire dis-ix ignition, and 40idfs with 32mm venturies. Light to light it was a beast, power would come on at about 3800 like a light switch and pull clear to 8k! Super fun in town motor. Downfall was driving it on the freeway, no bottom end torq. I'd have to drop it into 3rd and wind it out to 6-7k to pass, and that's what led me to building a stroker with a cam to pull in the low end. I still plan to use it on the supercharged engine someday:) thanks for another great vid I love my motor builds!
@VWJawbreaker9 ай бұрын
I think there’s some good parts there for sure. He’s thinking of making some changes, we’ll see what that means lol He has a bunch of parts in the garage. Interesting about the cam. From what I read it’s good from idle to like 4500 rpm…. Now I’m not sure what to do for his build.
@V8N8T9 ай бұрын
@VWJawbreaker another thing with the cam it has a very aggressive ramp, .470 valve lift with stock 1.1 rockers it tends to wear out the lifter bores faster compared to a higher lift cam designed for ratio rockers. It should be good from idle to 6000rpm and needs dual valve springs. It sure does come on hard!
@VWJawbreaker9 ай бұрын
@@V8N8T so it’ll be good for a Baja then.
@V8N8T9 ай бұрын
@VWJawbreaker I'm sure it would be ok but I'd find a low-end cam like the 86a personally they have plenty of low end. When I had the vz in my engine it was lower compression than the 8-8.5:1 cr that the cam calls for(like 7:1) and the bigger venturies in the 40 idfs probably wasn't the best combo for small displacement. I do remember with a pertronix in a 009 it would pull till 6500 but with the compufire it would sing to 8k. That ignition was wasted spark and it sure did make a difference on power
@V8N8T9 ай бұрын

@VWJawbreaker9 ай бұрын
Yes sir, lots of little things for sure. And to think they still run like that 😂 The lifter groove being there or not is controversial, I don’t bother making the mod on a small cam.
@muzzcovw76749 ай бұрын
Why surprised to see a helical cam gear? It's the best thing to run unless you're running a super large cam. They eliminate harmonics in the valve train that can cause wear

@VWJawbreaker9 ай бұрын
Seems the aftermarket lifters have a slight crown to them.
@TimsWorkshopTJY9 ай бұрын
I guess not flat as I thought. need to check them with feeler gauges on the edges but will probably use the old ones anyway. budget build on an old 1200 40hp single relief not worried about it on this one. "Volkswagen (VW) lifters on older engines, often referred to as flat tappet lifters, have a slightly convex shape rather than being perfectly flat. These lifters are designed to turn and wear more evenly. While they may appear flat, the center of the lifter is typically about 0.001 to 0.002 inches higher than the edges"
