I love the Amiga. I have my Amiga 1200 in a tower hooked up in my living room siting next to my modern desktop PC running workbench 3.1. I love the look of the Amiga 2000's, very beautiful looking Amiga's.

Nice, my A1200 is sat next to my PC too, but it's in its original case. The 2000 is an absolute unit though!

I own one of these marvelous machines since the early nineties. It was the second computer I've bought after owning an Amiga 500 for two years. This machine has stunning expandability. Two years ago I added a network interface card and two USB-ports for instance (combo card from Individual Computers). Thumb-drives, USB-HDDs and even optical drives are working just fine!

Thank you for watching. The A2000 really is cavernous and built like a tank! I personally still have an Amiga 1500 that I want to expand and that USB card sounds interesting.

Good news: This is a currently produced product. Bad news: You have to have at least 8 megs of RAM and (ideally) an accelerator card to be able to use it. Also, the USB-part is a clockport-module originally designed to be used in an Amiga 1200. In order to use it in an Amiga 2000 or derivative, you have to buy the X-Surf-100 ethernet card. Both available from Individual Computers: X-Surf-100: icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/shop/product/x-surf-100.html RapidRoad (USB-expansion): icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/shop/product/rapidroad-usb.html The RapidRoad gets piggybacked onto the X-Surf.

When I bought my 2000 back in 1987 I had such high hopes due to its expandability. Add more memory, hard drive, cd drive, a/v equipment, even turn it into a PC!!! What I didnt realize is just how expensive it would be. Wasnt long before one could build a PC for about what a bridge card/hard drive combo would cost with the bonus of a second PC!! I quickly came to realize I would have been better served to have purchased an Amiga 500. On the plus side of things over the years since I have been able to trick my original Amiga out with all kinds of expansion cards for a fraction of the original price.

When you buy an A2k these days it's like a big box of surprises, when you open the case and see what cards are installed.

I even got a surprise once when I opened up my own A1500. I found a memory card in it and I thought I sold all the cards in it back in 95 and just kept the computer. 😁

There is also a Video Toaster branded Amiga 2000. Case is identical except for the Video Toaster brand where the Amiga 2000 brand is located on the left hand side if you are looking at the computer.

I really need to move to Swindon. I want to help out with the museum, I'd love to help do what the likes of yourself, RMC Neil and all the other volunteers do to keep these machines running. Having seen the stores downstairs on a visit to the Swindon Hackspace before they had their own venue I was astonished by just how much there is that will never get a chance in the spotlight of the relatively small floorspace upstairs. It saddened me to realise that. There's only so much time available to spend on so many machines. However the town is a good ~1.5hour drive so it's not "near" 😭
@TheDigitalOrphanage
@TheDigitalOrphanage 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, volunteers are the lifeblood of museum's like MoC. The hope is to prepare more machines for display and rotate the displays more. It does take time though, and I wish I could do this full time. You can help the museum by spreading the word. Is there a nearer museum to you that you could volunteer at?

I have a boxed example of at least 1 of every Amiga and CD32/CDTV including bundles. Some are new old stock lol maybe I should open a museum too. Ditto for C= 8bits except an SX64, you try getting a boxed one of those. The A2000 and 500 are no better than A1000, typical Commodore blunder, ditto A3000 chipset did nothing extra that was useful (1280x256 in BBC Micro/VIC20 style colour palette)

Added RAM on HD card? Why would they do that, maybe acting as a disk caching memory?
@TheDigitalOrphanage
@TheDigitalOrphanage 5 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. It's standard Zorro II RAM but as it's accessible via DMA, the HD controller should be able to transfer data to that RAM without needing to use the CPU or go through the Agnus chip, so much faster. Putting it all on one card made it a one stop solution for more RAM and a HD, much like the A590 for the A500.

yeah and 1988 for 1990 was when the cd32 , A4000, A12000 came out. CDTV came out in 1986.. A3000 came out in 1988. AMIGA itself introduced in 1982. I got my first A1200 in 1991. AMIGAMAN

Thanks for watching, you're a little out with your dates though. The first Amiga, the 1000 was 1985 and the A3000 was released in 1990. The CDTV was 1991, A4000 and A1200 1992, and the CD32 was 1993. I was using different Amigas from 1989 until 1995 but it seems like so much longer than that.

@@TheDigitalOrphanage oh so your going to tell me my life's history ie lie about my life..just like You are doing now ,by lying/and or lied to about the TRUE history ,and specs of Amiga. Yet, do it so passivelly to look like your not in the wrong. Now people think to Honor Jay Miner.. When they haven't for the past , 28 years. Truthfully I was the ONLY one Honoring of Jay ,and telling the Truth about the Amiga as I promised Jay on his death bed. I am the ONLY STILL HONORING JAY THE RIGHT AND HONEST WAY. While, others decided to honor rj traitor michale , and aoole illumanti(i) mac woods. Its purely VILE neither of them know crap nor can tell the truth. Did you know I developed the PS3 at the STLoius show in 2000..oh yeah everyone knew ,and talked about SEVERAL CEOs going into a room with me,and also me buying up 2500 worth of stuff. Now nobody "remembers" that weekend . I Also , bought everything under my AMIGAONE inc. name oops someones in deep doodo lol. Bill ,knows it that's why he wont return my call.Also, he announced at the Y2K Show in ST. LOUIS. Lets, recap .. do yo realize there are/IS A3000 desktop AGA with Unix with 1,04 ,and 2,04 os. circa 1988, Lets Not forget The A3000 UX Tower circa 1989 Normally the A3000 has a zorro 3 card circa 1989 ... hum had to be tested ..on what oh yeah an a3000. Its document VIM was invented om a 1988 A3000 in otherwise Linux was first on an Amiga as minix in 1988 . I was there. I helped put along wit h others as Linus went from C64 to his A3000. Now , Will Weaton as documented ..wont tell you where as things tend to dis appear .and/or change,, or lies he promoted .. hence what is happening now.... back to the topic.. he researched ie tested the A4000 Toaster in 1990 ..hence A4000 was out as he said it was ,and I knew it was. Now the CDTV was out in 1986 as it was seen.. almost bought by me in MASS BROTHERS Gainesville , FLORIDA 1988 .,it became a UF book depository in 1989.. destroyed in 1990, besides you guys cant agree if the cdrv or the cd32 cane out in 1990,1991-1993.1994 respectively. The proof of lies is I cant even change the trure history of MASS BROTHERS Why, because it tells the true history of the Amiga. No personal links they say in wiki ah, but there are .. Amiga Community has A Jewel I. Jay once said to me "Its not ,because who ,and what you are that I give you this title AmigaMan Its ,because you remind me of me when I was younger..." THE AMIGA Got The Royal Sea;l of Approval via/is MY Family COAT OF ARMS ..You guys need to wake up Y2K Show in ST. By the way, if this video gets no ads it could have to do with your pronunciation of ISA. KZbin transcribed it as ISIS. That could have blacklisted your video from advertisers who use the list of stop-words. Maybe you could pronounce it as abbreviation EYE ES EY in your future videos ;)
