wanted to let you guys know some of those babies are not normals, they’re motleys! a tessera has to have a complete or almost complete stripe to be a tessera, so some of the babies that have mostly spots but a little bit of stripes are motleys. I’d recommend looking up the difference so you can see! They’re all beautiful though! Moonstone is definitely a keeper 😁

Came here to say this! Mom definitely looks like a motley rather than a tessera. Another key indicator of a motley is the plain white belly with no checkers. Tesseras can sometimes have plain bellies, but not always. Motley never has checkers, only a patternless belly. Tesseras also have more pattern on their sides usually. Still a great clutch! Edit: Also, I'm thinking there's a good chance the anery baby is what's called a pinstripe motley. Motley is a bit of a weird gene that varies a lot in expression.

Seeing the morphs of the babies make it even more surprising that Moonstone was given up for adoption. The fact that she's het snow and was clearly bred with a similar male.
@baasparkopenings851 Жыл бұрын
You'd be shocked. I have a visual snow corn snake I adopted awhile back. I was told and under the impression that it was a male, which was a bit more understandable. But just the other day "he" laid eggs! Hasn't been paired or anything in the 5 years since I got "him".
@dorinachan113 Жыл бұрын
My assumption is that Moonstone was thought to be male, they bought another male they paired up and oops Moonstone is a she and not a he. So they didn't know how to care for the eggs lol and thought to send her to adoption island. lol I guess.
@DRAG0NSPIRIT10 Жыл бұрын
@@dorinachan113 But for to have happened the two snakes would have to cohabed together, you don't keep Corn Snakes together as far as I know. Personally I still think that Moonstone may have belonged to a breeder who had to downsize their collection for whatever reason.

@@DRAG0NSPIRIT10 Or the person knew she was full of eggs and intentionally gifted the snake of surprises to Ed & Emily. They mentioned a few years back that they like to breed clutches with lots of variety and Moonstone couldn't be more than a few years old. Someone may have held back a snake from a high end breeding project, enjoyed the channel and knew these guys would enjoy it, hoping they would keep her too even if she didn't prove out the traits they were breeding for, Whatever the case, super strange to me that they didn't surrender a male too. Most people who are forced to surrender can't find/don't know anyone else with snakes, but this owner clearly had at least 2 very expensive corn snakes and you don't just pick those up off the side of the road or get them from someone in passing. If it was a living situation change, or necessary downsizing, it seems insane to me that you would just get rid of 1 like that... especially with those genetics and gravid.
@NintendoDRS Жыл бұрын
As a cornsnake owner this just might be my new favorite Snake Discovery video. I first stumbled upon this channel about 4 years ago while researching in preparation for realizing my childhood dreams of owning a snake and have been faithfully watching ever since. I now have two corns, a het lavender het motley aberrant with Aztec patterning named Quetzal, and a Lavender motley named Tofana. This channel has been slowly building my confidence and I do plan to breed them after about another year. After seeing these babies hatch and their immediate sweet and silly personalities I am psyched to produce some of my own! P.S I'm not entirely sure because they're so little yet, but I think I see some motleys in this group.

(Friendly) I think you have a typo, I make that one all the time since I'm dyslexic and just use positioning to type instead of actually looking at the letters to avoid a headache. But yeah that's the mark of a true animal lover. Wasps get a pass from me if they are outside or easily captured (they are vital for the ecosystem, I wish they weren't but yeah) but even if I do unfortunately have to kill one I'm at least smart enough to stand at arms length with gloves on and use an implement to do it they can keep the 2-pentanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol, and 1-methylbutyl 3-methylbutanoate to themselves

@ConstantChaos1 I've been one to very carefully trap and release a bee, wasp, etc outside. I'll use a cup and a piece of paper. I'll wait for it to land on a flat surface, and slowly place the cup over it, then slide the paper under, and carefully carry it outside and let it go!

That was a wild variety of babies to pop out! Moonstone would be a nice addition but I'm also wondering if you'll be keeping some of her babies, there are some gorgeous ones in the clutch.

They are all so cute. It is super hard to choose a favorite. But, I really like the blood red looking one. Great video, y'all. I am glad Moonstone found a new permanent home at Snake Discovery.

Moonstone is definitely a motley het snow and probably has more hidden genes. Tessera’s have more a ripped up side pattern and a thinner dorsal stripe. Definitely keep her for future breeding.

those were some VERY pretty babies! I hope you keep moonstone, outstanding work from her on those healthy eggs, it is a sad thing that one didn't make it, but that's just how the cookie crumbled. I hope to see how they grow up!

it is amazing that you have gotten a clutch that is so unique. im sure breeders would be jealous and i am sure you would be as well to have a genuine "oops" clutch that is so stunning. it is upsetting that there was a dead in egg and a FTT, but i know that is something that can sometimes be unpredictable but is higher in unknown lines (like for most species). good job yall for going ahead with the litter and i hope there is no further FTT. ps, i can not wait for the rest of the clutches this year

I think it would be great to have some more corns on this channel, as they are one of the more type of snake, and owning a Noodle myself, I would love to keep an eye on how the cornsnakes do!

Fun Fact: Wasps are the major pollinators for fig trees. They alsoo pollinate other trees as well, but are known particularly for figs.

Omg. My very first reptile was an albino corn. He is 4 yrs old now. I lucked out and got a baby snow last year. Corns are my fav. I now have 2 ball python, 2 crested geckos, 1 beardy and a tortoise. Thanks snake discovery. I have been watching and learning off your vids. I love going to reptile shows. My daughter has a blue tongue skink and he has been a lot of fun. I am so excited to see baby corn snakes on your channel. Gotta be my favorite, well, until I find my first hog nose! ❤

Hey! I know everyone already said it, but you should keep Moonstone! I am a corn snake breeder and those babies are gorgeous 😍 I think you've got motley stripes, not tesseras though😂 Just as cool! If you decide to rehome Moonstone, can I please buy her for one more year of breeding? Yeah... she is definitely a motley stripe, and maybe hypo too! Those are great genes! Congrats!!!!
