The Blue Raja (Hank Azaria), Mr. Furious (Ben Stiller), and The Shoveller (William H. Macy) bicker as they order food at a diner.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Can seven not-so-superheroes save a city of the future? Based on the comic book series created by Bob Burden, Mystery Men is set in the teeming metropolis of Champion City, where noble superhero Captain Amazing (Greg Kinnear) keeps the peace and sees that justice is done. When Captain Amazing mysteriously disappears, his archenemy Casanova Frankenstein (Geoffrey Rush) sees his opportunity to seize power and bend the city to his evil will, with his associate Dr. Annabel Leek (Lena Olin) at his side. However, Casanova will not succeed without a fight, as the The Mystery Men leap into action. The Mystery Men are not your ordinary Men of Steel; in fact, they're barely superheroes at all. Mr. Furious (Ben Stiller) has one gift: throwing tantrums. Blue Raja (Hank Azaria) is a deadly hand with spoons and forks (but not knives). Shoveler (William H. Macy) can dig with superior speed and force. The Bowler (Janeane Garafalo) rolls the ball with superhuman precision. Spleen (Paul Reubens) has a gaseous problem that he's turned into a weapon against evildoers. Invisible Boy (Kel Mitchell) is convinced he can become invisible at will, but he hasn't actually done it yet. And The Sphinx (Wes Studi) does have an unusual power: he can cut metal objects with his mind. Aided by addled gadget master Dr. Heller (Tom Waits), the Mystery Men make their move against Casanova and Annabel, who feel just threatened enough to make things personal by kidnapping Mr. Furious' girlfriend Monica (Claire Forlani). I totally agree. I enjoy everything about this movie. I love the futuristic setting, the wackiness, the way it doesn't take itself seriously, and just the overall lighthearted charm this movie gives off. I know that may sound corny haha but no joke this is one of those movies I can watch over and over again and alwyas enjoy it.

Captain Amazing was doing those forced PSAs before Captain America started doing them. It's really funny how ahead of its time this movie was, which makes it even funnier today with how big the superhero genre has gotten

MrWesdotcom Exactly ! As the year passes, the better this movie gets, especially compared to todays comic movies. Before Deadpool we had this. Mystery Men didn’t take itself serious, it was full of jokes, made fun of itself, that was the whole point. A lot of that stuff is hilarious. The thing I hate about the MCU is take it wants to be serious but shoves dumb corny out of place jokes. But MM did it better. I definitely like this movie better than Deadpool 1. In fact in Deadpool 2 they have auditions to recruit people with abilities, maybe its a reference to Mystery Men but the majority never get it because its a new generation.

I love how Blue Raja makes that pun on forgiving and forgetting with forks, and The Shoveler doesn't even crack a smile. Instead he just looks at him like he's saying, "Wow, really?!". I love and can't help but notice moments like that in films....

this movie would not have been as priceless without hank azaria. For one thing, his facial expressions are exquisite, namely when he's somewhat in the background listening to others' conversations. If you can, check out the bar scene where he awkwardly looks on as baby bowler has the heated conversation with her father's bowling ball-encased skull. Some commenters state the movie was their favorite movie as a kid, I'm 64 and estimate i've watched it 25-30 times, my favorite movie of all time.

I've been ordering my steaks "Pink not bloody" for over a decade because of this movie. Last week I finally ordered a steak "medium rare". Best steak I ever had. And now, today, I come back, and realize, that his steak order is characteristically, a failed attempt to seem macho and tough. Very rare is red, while "pink not bloody" is a firm medium. It's a paradoxical statement. He's literally acting like he's above her by incorrectly defining the qualities of steak. That's hilarious and I wish I understood that when I was younger.

Lance Hunt is the real identity of Captain Amazing. He is a billionaire who spent money into developing his super hero suit, and as he is very narcissistic, he wants the city to know he did so. Thus he gets credits when being Cap Amazing for putting down bad guys, AND he gets credits as well in his true identity, for officially being a benefactor to Cap Amazing's cause. Sorry for being literal, english is not my langage and i understood your question as a genuine one. Watch the movie if not done so ^^ it's well explained x)

A benefactor is someone who gives money to someone to help them do something. Basically, Lance Hunt's cover is that he's giving money to Captain Amazing, when in actuality, he *is* Captain Amazing. Kinda like if Bruce Wayne came out and said he was donating money to Batman to help Batman protect Gotham.
