Interesting, especially since there is only one of them. The markings on the door seem to imply it was one of several. A couple of things that strike me as anachronisms: the cinder blocks being used as steps to the door. I don't think these would have been original to the hut so must have been added later when the hut was presumably repurposed by other people. Likewise the light switch is the type we use today and probably wasn't original either, and presumably was installed when the hut was electrified. It appears that someone came along later after the hut was abandoned and took away all the electrical cabling that brought power in from the outside. The real puzzler was what the hut, or several huts, were doing there in the first place. nobody would go to the trouble of transporting in all the parts for it unless there was a compelling reason to do so. I doubt it was done to provide housing to migrant settlers. Admittedly they used Nissen huts in Maribyrnong for migrants because they already had them, I think, for military purposes in WW2. I can only speculate there was an unknown military camp there at one stage before it was abandoned, and was later used by others for an unknown purpose, important enough to bring in power. Everything I said here is of course sheer speculation, but I do know of two secret military bases, one north-west of Melbourne that has been dismantled very quietly and you'd never know it was ever there, and another to the south of Melbourne that still exists, so it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

I'd say military camp of some type, the Americans were known for using nissan huts during WWII.

Very interesting. I know of many different locations of military and or munitions grounds in Melbourne that just don't exist anymore. I only know of a couple still standing. I'd love to message you if that's OK? Most people in Melbourne have no idea of rhe amount of ordnance under there homes and backyards

Quality properties like that are renting for $400 a week in town at the moment. That one even has a low maintenance building with free air conditioning thrown in! A landlords dream that place!

Great video. Is this Crown land? Or national park?
@vk3ase5 ай бұрын
Hard to tell really with out some research. 100 years a go a lot of it was freehold and crown land but the government has bought back un used or orphaned land for national park and reserves so very patchy. Google maps not that arcuate on some boundaries.

I’d say it dated from the 1950’s or 60’s looking at the furniture, door locks, electrical etc. none of the trees are over 50 years old, and you can see in the drone shot where the tree line changes to taller trees. In the 1970’s we moved onto a property in Gippsland which was cleared in the 1950’s then left by the owners, the vegetarian was similar. De VK2ANM

By chance could this have been acquired by someone and then placed in that location?
