Very interesting Dave thanks for information.

Well done, buddy. I'm experimenting myself; I found a free panel and a 24 volt scooter motor that I connected directly it runs only when the panel is fully exposed to sunlight. If I connect the motor to a small pump, it should water the garden at the appropriate time without the need for a control box or battery, and it will cost nothing in the long run.

Why? Just put 3x12v batteries in series! Lower volts and higher amps means less overall efficiency. If you need 12 volrs after that then use a synchronous buck converter (95% efficient or better). ????

I Don't think you understand the context of this. I agree that higher voltage systems are more efficient but a lot of stuff runs on 12 volts and you can power them with virtually free used panels without having to have an expensive charger, inverter or what ever. This is especially true when you want things at a remote unattended location that could be damaged or stolen . Did you actually watch and listen to the video?.

Yes I did. But using 36 volts, a low cost MPPT charger and cheap buck converters from 36 to 12v is going to be far more effective, efficient, faster, safer (no possibility of damage) and cheaper than all those mods. But if you're OK with what you've done, fine. Just not the way to do it for me.
