John, a great find and rebuild. Expensive when new, no doubt due to having a rectangular spindle block with scraped external faces running in a rectangular cylinder, that also had scraped internal surfaces.

Casimir, Also don't forget the spindle was tapered. I cannot think of a more difficult thing to make.

@@john2478 Well, at the cost, close to that of a house, I wouldn’t have expected less. ( If I have it right, a Laing 3 bed semi detached house “ fit for heroes” after World War One and built a little later in the 1930’s cost £600-£700 pounds. If I heard you correctly, the milling attachment cost similar. That’s £800,000 for the same house in London.
