I see many rock buckets for around $50, but those are mass-produced buckets made with ordered rocks, not hand-collected. So definitely calculate your time and effort collecting and putting together the buckets! A way to calculate your buckets is to put them on a scale and make your bucket meet a weight standard vs a per-rock value. By adding the same weight of sand in each bucket you can calculate the value of aggats and other minerals by volume. Then add your price per hour to make each bucket. Say 25$ an hr if each bucket takes you 15 minutes to make you would tack on an additional $6.25 per bucket not including your time searching for the rocks. I hope this helps and wasn't too confusing!

@AgateAriel Glad I could help! Making buckets by weight will also help with " customer satisfaction " it will prevent issues of irregularities in amount of product. So a customer can't say they got " more sand than rocks," for instance, because they're all the same.

I’ve bought a few rock sets usually around $20 but it was random rocks. Since you went around and actually finding them and with two bonus rocks. I’d say around the $40 -$50 that’s a pretty big bucket of rocks we get.

As an online store owner with 20 years of sales experience, I’d recommend offering three different sizes of ‘rock buckets.’ This way, you can cater to a variety of budgets and skill levels, making sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy. You never know-someone might even buy a smaller size for a child, sparking a lifelong interest in rock collecting!

I don't know much about pricing rocks, so I will offer a marketing tip instead. Consider adding (on the bucket label) the interesting fact that, as of 1969, Lake Superior agates are the official gemstone of Minnesota. Thank you for your knowledgeable and enthusiastic content!

I started rockhounding about a month ago after watching hours upon hours of Minnesotans pluck LS Agate after LS Agate from gravel roads, creeks, rivers lakes and oceans. It was just a tad bit discouraging realizing that banded agates in Washington State are few and far between. Plenty of Jasper and Quartz though it seems. These buckets are such a great idea. May I suggest some balled up paper to fill the bucket all the way to the lid? That might stop buckets from coming to us “Pre-tumbled” 😉 As far as pricing goes, consider the weight of agates you’re putting in and compare it to other websites that sell them. I haven’t bought agates yet… it’s still early in my lapidary phase 😉

I live in Washington state too! I also started rockhounding about a month ago. I agree on the abundance of jasper and quartz. They seem to be everywhere. I know there are agates in the state, but they're not anywhere near mean.

2nd comment from me - I ordered the bucket as soon as I started the video. Just finished the video, and I'm really excited about the bucket! I'm really looking forward to receiving it. Also, after watching the entire video, I think $35 is more than fair. It's a lot cheaper than moving to Minnesota or even flying there! 🤣

This is a really cool idea. I think for the number of specimens you'd receive (beyond the agates even) it'd be worth $100. Like, if I compare to some other Etsy shops that sell minerals, you can spend anywhere between $50-100 for a similar quantity (of a different mix of minerals though.) Like you mentioned, not a lot of Lake Superior agates for sale in a bundle like this, lol. Anyways, love this idea!

Thank you for sharing your agates with us! I just ordered a bucket, as a Christmas present to myself. 😄 I recently discovered a a love of rock hounding and tumbling. I live in Western Washington state, on the Puget Sound. I've found a few treasures in my local area, but I need to travel several miles (50+) to find a true rock hound location. I told my husband recently about your beautiful rocks, and that we need to move to Minnesota. He sort of vetoed that idea.🤣So the next thing is to get some rocks from you! I love your videos. You are awesome! Thanks again! ♥ PS - Thank your for your TEMU rock video, I'm staying away from them! Their rocks aren't really that cheap, and now I know they sell fake rocks, which is crazy!

Wow! That's a nice amount of rare agates and goodies. You can charge a pretty penny for those! Maybe try a minimum bid and see where it goes from there. At the least I'd start at $50 which might be too low. Figure in tax and shipping would make them around $65 delivered. Good luck in your cool venture!

First I’ve seen this idea. Seems Chinese inspired, I do see many weird variations of what is essentially gambling. If I’m gonna pay for rocks I’d just buy the exact ones I want, not a random handful. Seems obvious it’s just a way to offload literally tons of worthless items. But people believe they could get a $10,000 diamond in their bucket so why not buy 5 buckets? You’re not making any outrageous bribes, but the format reminds me of that. I’d guess the agates are worth about $15-$20. I personally wouldn’t pay for the experience of having to clean sand out of them though, and could prepare my own bucket within 5 minutes if I wanted to recreate that experience for some reason. If it’s an honest gift of leftover, rejected finds, $25 seems fair. But if you’re gonna ‘restock’ this with purchases then you’d probably have to double the price which just wouldn’t be worth the value.
