Words will really never be enough to explain how much this film means to me. I know every line, every word of it. In a way, both good or bad, our whole present generation of Indian teens has been raised on this film. And it still holds up fairly phenomenally well. Every joke, every gag still hits like a knife, every emotional beat still reduces me to tears, one of the sharpest Bollywood screenplays ever written. Also extremely monumental to me personally as it was the first film that I remember that really made me love movies. Like a deep passionate obsessive kinda love, which still runs deep 11 years later.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS PART WASN'T INCLUDED I'm gonna explain it. The professor guy who wrote machines asked Rancho to explain a machine. Of course, he does so in a goofy way and is berated, saying that he must explain it in a serious/professional manner iirc. It's the reason he was kicked out of his class. Then, he comes back because he forgot his books. When the professor asked, he goes: "Instruments that record, analyse, summarise, organise, debate and explain information; that are illustrated, non-illustrated, hardbound, paperback, jacketed, non-jacketed; with foreword, introduction, table of contents, index; that are indented for the enlightenment, understanding, enrichment, enhancement and education of the human brain through sensory route of vision - sometimes touch." What I love about this astronaut pen question is that Virus managed to answer Rancho as to why they never used a pencil instead.. which proved that Rancho, ultimately, is just a human and no matter how intelligent he is, he can still make a mistake.. he isn't this indestructible genius.. he is just someone curious about this world and genuinely asked a valid question.. as to what the answer is..? The reason why astronauts never used a pencil in space because the graphite might break and it will float around the station, possibly going into someone's eye, or gets wedged between the instruments on board, which will cause massive problems for the astronauts.. this answer is based on what Virus said btw..

ARISTOTLE ' Give me a child the first 7 years and I will show you the adult!' Poor people create more poor people, insane people create more insane people, cognitively impaired people create more cognitively impaired people ... A brain needs to be conditioned very early to store huge amounts of information in a very short time. Even kids with superior intelligence have to learn how to study efficiently. Most of the children growing up in 'broken homes' without any structure and who experience emotional & physical abuse, are struggling in school. These kids could have been the next Marie Skłodowska Curie, Charles Dickens or Christopher Hitchens ... but instead their brains are struggling to survive the trauma they have to face every day. I never yelled at my daughters or in front of them. When they make mistakes or don't want to follow certain rules, we talk about those issues like civilized human beings. I don't preach drinking water while taking baths in champagne. They know when they want to try out something, I will assist them, I won't judge, I won't say no ... just be there to catch them whenever they stumble. Children are not property, their purpose in life isn't to make you proud - it's the other way around. You need to be the living and breathing example they might want to follow.

The homo/semi-naked part was common in colleges across India like 10-20 years ago. It was a tradition called "ragging" in which the seniors insult and embarres fresh students as an attempt to remove their shyness and make them a brave man to face every difficulty in life. Back then when internet was ot there, most fresh students were actually very shy. The most insulting thing is making them semi-naked which would completely remove any shyness from anyone for anything. However that didn't go well. Many students did suicide out of that. Authorities tried to stop that. Now-a-days its not happening in big colleges. Small Colleges may follow it but its now not harsh like semi-naked. Now its like making boys dance, sing, ramp-walk, proposing senior girls (obviously those senior girls have their consent for this and take this as joke) etc. This "ragging" was a thing in all boys hostels back then. I don't know how common was it in girls hostel, but i have heard a few cases where senior girls would do the same to junior fresh girls.

I work with kids from 'broken homes' who experienced emotional and physical abuse. Grades are important for an education system, but for my line of work they are actually counterproductive. You don't have to be a pedagogue to understand the concept of 'participation medals'. Competition can be a good thing, especially when everybody is treating eachother with mutual respect and fairness. Capitalism can't create fast and huge amounts of profit without pitting people against eachother. A lot of people need to work for basically nothing, so that another scumbag can be a billionaire. This system doesn't only exploit human beings, the real victims are the rest of the planet. Only a handful people try to protect the other living beings on this planet, only those few have enough functioning braincells left to see that all living beings are part of a bigger organism called Planet Earth. Raising our kids to become demented halfwits and self-absorbed sociopaths will just speed up the race into our own doom.

I'm not from the area at all, but that type of movie would be perfect for the US. As many kids don't like school due to how much pressure it can give to students just for better grades. There have been many that drop out or just do poorly in school, to become some of the better off in the end as they are confident in themselves and what they can do. Overall, the recapped made me laugh a few times, and it sounds like it should be amazing to watch. I'll have to see if it was ever released with an English version.

@Safwaan That's exactly why people would never want to learn Hindi, so that they'd never have to talk to people like you.

@Safwaan Joking? Where's the joke? If I say something like I'll kill you, then I actually mean that I'll do something bad to you, not literally kill you. If you call someone pagal, what do you really mean? Of course, it's not some kind of a huge insult. But someone's saying that it would be good to have an American version as well due to their bad education system and for a more global reach, then you reply "Learn Hindi pagal". Where's the manners? I don't see anything funny or any other meaning other than to just be obnoxious to foreigners.

Dude almost no one in the world likes schools because of pressure. Especially Asian countries. The extreme pressure combined with unupgraded school is hell

I watched this movie when I was a kid. Now that I'm in Computer Science major studying aboard, I feel really related. This movie is more than a movie. It is an inspiration and lesson not only to me but many other people.

This movie is awesome As much as I should have foreseen that the great scientist was their friend, I was distracted by their journey to find him so much that I forgot to connect the dots. The journey was fun

my favourite part of this movie is when they failed to submit their exam papers on time and their professor refused to accept their paper, Rancho asked their professor if he knows who they are which he replied he doesn't care even if they are the Minister's sons, he still won't accept their paper. Upon learning that he doesn't know who they are, Rancho mixed all the answer paper and scattered them. Sad that part wasn't in this recap

Actually the reason the professor gave as to why pencils aren't suitable in spacecrafts is correct. Those wooden pencils upon sharpening release lots of wooden dust. And the air filter will NOT like that. Mechanical pencils also generate some amount of particulate waste. So the the best option is a pen or something like apple pencil.
