FILM DESCRIPTION:
Directed by Clint Eastwood, the mysterious drama Mystic River is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane and adapted by screenwriter Brian Helgeland. Set in an Irish neighborhood in Boston, Jimmy, Sean, and Dave are three childhood friends who are reunited after a brutal murder takes place. Reformed convict Jimmy Markum (Sean Penn) and his devoted wife Annabeth (Laura Linney) find out that their teenage daughter Katie (Emmy Rossum) has been beaten and killed. Jimmy's old friend Sean Devine (Kevin Bacon) is the homicide detective assigned to the case, along with partner Whitey Powers (Laurence Fishburne). Jimmy also gets his relatives, the Savage brothers (Adam Nelson and Robert Wahlberg), to conduct an investigation of their own. Jimmy and Sean both start to suspect their old pal, Dave Boyle (Tim Robbins), who lives a quiet life with his wife Celeste (Marcia Gay Harden) but harbors some disturbing secrets. Clint Eastwood won a Golden Coach for Mystic River at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.

I felt so bad for Dave in this articular scene. He didn't truly survive that ordeal as a child. In a way, he's like the walking dead.

Yes..,I really wish an adult had tried to talk to little Dave after he'd come home from his ordeal when he was a kid. He might have survived better what had happened to him. But instead, no one wanted to talk about it.

Dave, Jimmy and Sean are about the same age. Dave though is looks older than them due to the trauma and PTSD, Dave's hair is full on grey. Sean's hair is healthy and Jimmy even has those gray wings from the stress of prison and career life.

It's an example of how dysfunctional Dave's life was. He tried to be normal, act normal, but deep down he was constantly hurting, constantly on edge, paranoid, cautious. It threw his entire life off, including his relationship with his wife. The foundation of that relationship was two damaged, or mentally weak people trying to act normal so it crumbled at the first sign of serious trouble.

If you truly suspect that, then go to the police. You don't have to be sure, investigation is their job. Obviously, don't go to a gangster or the father of the girl you suspect him of killing. Also, if it actually seems like a possibility that he did that, it's probably time to think about divorce.
@vondonstrut218
@vondonstrut218 2 жыл бұрын
@Vali she's not the worst wife. She obviously was riddled with guilt for helping Dave, but she was being a bit dumb. You tell the police your thoughts, not the father of the daughter who was murdered. Like at the bare minimum they were gonna beat the crap out of him. Like that much was obvious, so it was stupid on her part.

Kind of an idiot character when you think about it, childhood trauma or not. He got so carried away with talking about wolves, "Dave is dead", "a dream of youth". But then again, it would be a lot less interesting of a movie if he said, "Jimmy, I really did beat up a mugger and here's proof."
@PiCheZvara
@PiCheZvara 3 жыл бұрын
He was too far gone to think clear. Killing that guy must have caused him to snap inside. If you didn't experience trauma, it seems illogical, but if you did, you would know that if you're pushed to the edge and something just cracks or snaps in you, your mind, critical thinking, etc. is gone. Dave's psychology is pretty accurate actually, it's just hard for normal, healthy people to understand how truly broken he was on the inside at this point.

If you call the people with trauma is an idiot, you know that you are an idiot yourself. Because people with trauma can't really handle their mind, and mostly people with trauma either they become broken that getting hunted by fear entire life or become crazy because of their heavy trauma.

The point is, his trauma messed him up badly. Trauma isn't something light, it literally sticks with you for a long time. He's having a full on breakdown because of how much it reminded him of the childhood incident so it's not like he could express what happened clearly
