A video of me concluding my fight against the Mystic Record, Alice Margatroid.
The Mystic Record is the True Final Boss of the game Mystical Chain, a fangame of the Touhou Project created by team Lion Heart. Mystical Chain is an action/platformer game based on the Touhou Project, a series of doujin games created by the programmer known by the pseudonym of ZUN. Mystical Chain, rather than being a danmaku shooter is an action/platformer game where you cruise through stages and battles of epic proportions. This is a good example of said epicness. Yeah, I copy/pasted. Sue me.
I was surprised to see who the boss was. I definitely wasn't expecting her. Actually, I was expecting Reimu and Yukari for some reason. This is probably because the lack of them is rather disturbing. However, I'm glad Lion Heart decided for Alice instead. Makes much more sense.
Believe it or not, this game DOES have a storyline, but much is left to speculation... from what I know. That's part of the magic of this game. You are given little details and you can interpret the as you see fit. Wish to know what I interpreted out?
The witches are looking for something (if you get the bad end, the game tells you they didn't found it). But what are they looking for? The game might tell you, but since I don't know Japanese, I cannot know. However, from what I do know I infer they are looking for grimoires. There's a doujin called Unofficial Gensokyo Guide Book by FLIPFLOPs. Is basically a conversation/study lesson between Keine, Flan, and a guest character among the girls. When Marisa appears, she talks about the grimoires. She mentions their importance and some famous ones. I mentioned in the first part how Mystic Records uses spells associated with these famous grimoires (or so I think). Still with me? I believe the witches are looking for these grimoires or some power associated strongly with them. I'm not sure what they found, but I'm guessing the grimoire Alice carries with her got "activated" by this search OR is one of these grimoires. Alice had said several times that she's holding back when she fights. Can it be that her true power lies within this grimoire? What secret does it holds? Maybe a power that rivals all the other grimoires together, maybe their location, who knows? Want my theory?
Alice grimoire holds her. By this I mean that Alice sealed her power, a power that rivals all the grimoires (how else do you explain her downgrade between PC-98 and Window series?) Marisa and Patch where looking for this power believing it was something else. In the case you chose Alice, her and the partner where searching for said grimoires and got stopped by the partner you didn't chose who believed Alice grimoire holds the key. Makes sense? However, apparently something happened, not sure, that made the grimoire expel the power it held, power that materialized in Alice's most powerful form, her child form. Is kind of how a bigger retainer holds more while a smaller one would explode if more of something fills it. Alice sealed some of her power in the grimoire with aging as a side effect. After the fight between the three witches, this power started to leak and this boss came to be. Now the witches must fight to seal her back into the grimoire. But what makes this child stronger than the regular Alice? What makes a magician stronger than another magician? Many things: strength, experience, capacity, KNOWLEDGE. The more they know, the more powerful the magicians. Maybe Alice knew about the other grimoires (she did grow up in Makai, which is practically hell, so I'm sure she got access to some pretty forbidden and powerful knowledge.) When she got stuck in Gensokyo (Stuck? That's another theory dealing with what happened to Mima and Shinki), she sealed this knowledge into her grimoire. She knows power is there. Not necessarily what kind of power specifically, she did sealed knowledge, so maybe she forgot. She keeps it sealed because just opening the grimoire is more than enough for this knowledge to leak.
Does all this makes senses? I believe it does, maybe a little of polishing is required, but I think the foundation is pretty stable. I'll talk in the video about the fight itself, since I run out of space here. Thanks for reading.
