Back in the late 70's when I was a foot messenger I use a lot of the underground pathways to get around during bad weather. And to make the pathway from Bryant Park to Herald Square safer they could have put up stalls for small businesses to rent and use to sell things and close the area off at 11:30 P.M.

Every time I go to this station, I always take a look at the figurines. They're so interesting and hearing that it's commentary on homelessness and greed, it just adds to it all.

I first saw this station as a kid in the movie "Nighthawks". A crucial chase scene between Billy Dee Williams and Rutger Hauer took place in the station where the L train ramp starts.

You should do a video on the Fulton Street and Broad Street stations of the J line. They were also built as IND stations.

Broad st was Tile band Sadle Brown and Border orange-yellow. And Fulton st was the same as Utica, Ralph and Rockaway Avenues tile band and border

Thanks for the information on the 14th st 8th Ave Station. I didn't know any history about it. Didn't they use to have an underground walkway from 6th Ave 33rd St to 7th Ave. I think it was still open in 1977, but I remember in the 80's it just disappeared

I actually didn't know about the 34th Street passageway between 6/7. I'll have to look into that on my free time.

They really should extend the l train to either new jersey and/or up 10 av. Enjoyed the video and cant wait to see what's to come in the future.

Whenever I go to nearby Chelsea Piers or the Whitney Museum, this is the stop I usually get off at.

I did a video on the AA train announcements and I showed how the IND used to have station(s) like 14 Street with only tile bands. No half tiles. 34 St Penn. and 14 Street were the only ones to not have half tiles for the pattern

Fun fact at 3:25 you can actually see the former IND tiles at this station because near the newer exit at 8th Avenue on the L there are BMT tiles that fell off and the older tiles were exposed

@MysticTransit This is a great video. I like the pace - there's room to breathe in your script. And I do like that you've scripted it properly. A lot of KZbinrs transition to presenting to camera. Do you think you'll do that, or prefer to remain behind the scenes?
@MysticTransitКүн бұрын
Behind the scenes. I like it that way.

IIRC the original plan was for the Canarsie Line to merge with the 8th Ave IND at 14th Street there. But it never happened. That is how it was originally designed though.

Great video, thanks! I always wondered what happened to the passageway between 7th and 8th Avenues - you see MTA workers all the time going in and out of there on the 7th Avenue end. I think it would be great if the MTA renovated it and opened it back up. After all, the passageway between 7th and 6th is still there - if it works there, I don't see why it wouldn't work again for 7th/8th. They could install security cameras and/or other safety enhancements. What do you think?
@MysticTransit3 сағат бұрын
I doubt it'd happen - likely would require a bit of construction to connect a new walkway to it. The old walkway was used for the elevator bay, as seen in this video.
@bassman199442 сағат бұрын
@@MysticTransit Yeah, I don't think it will happen either. I actually never saw where the passageway arrives on the 8th Avenue end, but I'm also rarely ever in that station. I'll look for it next time!

the thing you're doing with the bw footage at the 1:24 mark is annoying to look at. the effect was unnecessary.
