I'm a huge Nightcrawler fan so of course I'm gonna touch on the retcon to his origin in X-Men Blue Origin #1. This makes Mystique rather than Azazel Kurt Wagners father, and somehow people have a problem with this idea and we know where that comes from. Well I'm happy to explain how this works, how it works better than his prior parentage, how Mystiques powers allow for this, how it's happened in Marvel before, and how this was his original planned origin for over 30 years.

This opens up a neat plot line where Mystic could go around trying to copy the genetics of powerful mutants then just flood sperm banks with her experiments to further mutant kind. It wouod explain the tidal wave of mutans and all the not so great mutations

I'm Stewie and I would like your opinion on this doubt of mine: I really like the idea that Mystique is biologically Kurt's father, BUT.. at this point a big problem has been created that I actually don't know the answer to, that is.. if Azazel IS NOT his father, so why is Kurt born with his "devil" appearance and the same teleportation power? Here’s my thought: it was always pretty dumb that Lobdell created Azazel just to explain Kurts appearance. Because powers and appearance don’t always follow in progeny in marvel. Legion isn’t quite anything like Charles for example. Cable HAS tk and telepathy but not optic blasts. So honestly Kurt being sired by Mystique in the form of Azazel actually makes more sense to me personally in that he’s got fur that lets him slightly phase out of visibility which feels more like a shapeshifty power dialed down. Moreover this was the original plan to begin with. Azazel wasn’t even in the picture and frankly is a terrible character tbh. Like I say, he’s waluigi. Except I like waluigi. No offense to italians either I think anything mario related is sort of insulting in that respect but it’s a me! Hey I appreciate the questions!

Now it’s them going “no, he actually is demonic” which feels rather foul. But yeah, Mystique copied Azazel’s genetic structure. I like to see it as Destiny seeing this Trigon wannabe coming so she created a little Raven for him to be distracted by.

Powers don’t follow a perfect punnett square and who knows which are dominant or recessive. It’s ultimately, as with many of these things, whatever the writer needs it to be.

Nightcrawler has had 3 retcon dads now....1st was a human Baron while Mystique was pretending to be normal and Kurt's birth exposed her secret.....Retcon 2nd dad was a mutant demon king of his own helldimension.....now retcon 3 BUT they messed up because Mystique and Destinys child should be a girl.....tons of scif has dealt with this decades ago Female shapechanged into male body will still only supply x chromosome to female egg x chromosome = xx = girl....always girls born

Black female shapeshifter changes into white male and falls in love with a white female and they have a daughter and goes into the whys of only daughters possible.....Marvel could of at least tried the idea with Rogue being their biological daughter but they stole the story and then messed it up. Nightcrawler now has three biological fathers. Mystique copied Azazel and Raven's DNA to make him with Destiny. Sorry, ppl Azazel is still Kurt's dad... Indirectly one of his dad's now. He's now a designer baby. Tbh, Marvel Azazel lore is kinda dumb. He should've been the character to be retconned or improved apon in some way. I've read Azazel fanfiction better than Marvels writing. Now with Mystique copying everyones DNA could lead to some interesting plot lines. A mutant who comes across a child they did not procreate but still is their's biologically. Hilarious. 😅

This is actually explained in the comic. Mystique indicates people leave imprints of themselves which she uses to manipulate herself on the cellular level. When Destiney and Mystique were conceiving Nightcrawler it was the plan for Mystique to use the imprinted genetic make-up of Azazael to create Nightcrawler so Azazael would think he did father a child with Mystique and his plan was successful. Per Destiny's vision Nightcrawlers existence was needed so that Azezal wouldn't rule the world. As Mystique used Azazel's imprint when fathering Nighcrawler that would explain the pointy ears, tail, and also the teleportation abilities. I'm not sure if Azazel's mutant power is teleportation...he has a vast aray of powers and not all of them I believe are due to his x-gene so the teleportation aspect of his powers could be something that is genetic to his demon race and not x-gene. The comic itself is a cool read. Give it a try.

Loved the X men as a kid with the cartoons and got into the comics briefly in my Uni days when I saw Dust and Emma Frost in Wolverine and the X men. Then, this year, I found those Krakoa Welcomes videos on the podcast Cerebro and I was hooked all in. Catching up with trades but enjoying stuff. I hate how adaptations never include Destiny outside of Evolution. Mostly because she’s a surprisingly compelling character who trolls people with her future vision. Won’t lie, seeing her finally be able to call Rogue her daughter in Necrosha made me tear up. And I had heard about this origin for a decade. Frankly, I didn’t like Azazel. He’s the ripoff of Trigon Marvel didn’t commit to. Destiny being Callous due to the future makes sense but I look forward to when she remembers and Rogue finds out. Irene definitely has some explaining to do. Also, Gambit trolling Destiny made me laugh so much. About as much as when Blindfold Read Xavier for filth. Frankly, I’m happy for level heads like you, Cerebro and Blerd right now. My only qualm about all this was the fact that Destiny, unlike Mystique, does age and I was like “wait, wouldn’t this be post menopause?” Then I remembered she was involved in the Black Womb project and this is Destiny who, at 120, still went around with amazing bare legs without a varicose vein in sight. They can easily explain it away. So, I’m glad to have discovered this channel. I will say, on the MCU side, I hope that the actress who plays Kamala is still used in future projects as she’s usually the best part of the projects she’s on. And if Miss Marvel gets a TV continuation, I’d love it if it has her fighting alongside Dust. Edit: Also, considering that Margali is the woman that raised him, and Mystique is usually more feminine presenting, wouldn’t that mean Kurt has three mothers and that, somehow, Mystique is the best of the three? Lol. I will say what surprised me but I found cute was that this comic also explicitly shows that Mystique and Destiny adopted Rogue when she was a child before her powers manifested. I liked that detail.
