Several mutants can have the same power. Professor, Jean and Jaso are all telepaths. Female version of Wolverine had the same ability to heal as him. So, there are definitely repetitions, but there's also enough variety to most of them having unique powers.

1, Jean never cheated on Scott. It was Logan who kissed Jean then Misyque went into Logan's tent and kissed him. Jean lightly flirted with him and admitted to him that. The liquid used to control the mutants was a "secreation" that was extracted from Jason's spinal fluid or brain fluid. I think it was also in a way used to control Jason.

Referring to your question about similar powers and the over-variety of abilities, there is a few abilities we see multiples of. Professor X, Jean Grey and Emma Frost have very similar abilities. Obviously there's Wolverine and Sabertooth but they're brothers. Another mutant with regeneration abilities is Deadpool. Then there's Mystique and Morph who have pretty much the same ability. Juggernaut, Blob and Colossus or kind of similar, strength and size

Regarding Jean getting out of the plane at the end to "do her thing," we always have to remember that these are fictional powers using fictional laws of physics, so the only ones who have any real chance of understanding them are the characters and the writers. If Jean got out of the plane, it's obviously because that was the only way she saw to accomplish her objective! In my own mind, I've assumed that the natural forces involved were so large that she had to telekinetically "anchor" herself to the ground in some way that she wouldn't have been able to do otherwise (i.e. if she'd tried to attempt it while pushing the airplane with herself inside it). Kind of like a fighter setting their stance. If she'd been even stronger, maybe she wouldn't have needed to do that, but she wasn't.

The mind control liquid was excreted by Jason's brain. Did you see the cables attached to his head? They did a number on that dude. Stryker wasn't using the liquid on him, but he was able to get control of him some other way. We can only imagine how but you could see he had multiple surgeries done to him. He was no longer able to fight back. Stryker also said the professor was too powerful for the liquid so he brought in Jason to control him.

To answer your question about Jason and why they didn't save him, remember that he was lobotomized, hence the reason for him being in a wheelchair. The liquid that Stryker used to control people's minds was made from Jason's DNA which was forcefully extracted post-lobotomy. And because of his lobotomy, there really wasn't much of Jason left to save. The only parts of Jason that remained were the part that could use his hypnosis abilities and the part that could take orders from is father. The rest of him was pretty much already dead.

One thing to note about mutants is that their mutant ability is only one aspect of measuring how powerful they are. Most of their power comes from how much control they have over their ability. For example someone who could create explosions could create a firecracker sized explosion but someone else with the same ability could possibly create nuclear bomb sized explosions.

In the Golden Age of Marvel on film, this was one of the best sequels. The first time we had multiple releases for Marvel-based films in the same year. X2:X-Men United was after Daredevil and before Hulk. Such an incredible progression of story. Most us who knew the comics had an idea of what was coming. Meanwhile, newfound fans who loved the first film could only imagine what was coming. The actions of the gifted, good or bad are magnificently made and nerdgasms for everyone wanting more. But of course, the underline story of discrimination and tolerance in an fantastical world still comes through. The ending did indeed break hearts. But like i said, we as the fans knew what we saw right before credits rolled. X3:The Last Stand (2006) is considered controversial. You'll have to see why for yourselves.

About the scene where Jean dies saving all her friends, without going too deep. It happened that way, because Professor Xavier was helping her develope her powers in a safe way. The thing is, if she is in full control of her mind at that time, she wouldn´t be powerfull enough to lift the airship. But if she lets go of that control, she could have much more power with the strong possibility of losing her mind and becoming somewhat like Strikers son. So she decided to go outside and unleash all of her potential and killing herself in the process, knowing that she couldnt sanely control her power like Xavier.

That was interesting to watch. How your focus evaporated, unable to compose coherent sentences and your confusion at parts of the film you probably would otherwise process easily. It takes a lot courage to explain the reason to strangers on the Internet. Some peoples bodies let them down and for some people it's their mind. You're always looking out for us by telling us to eat, rest and stay hydrated. Make sure you do the same. Regarding the Jean grey love triangle thing. We've seen you have a serious issue with infidelity on the spiderman movies. Many people feel the same way as you from a moral standpoint. What's unique with you is that your judgement gets clouded and you lose pretty much all emotional connection for that person going forward. Who hurt you Stef? 😂

Don't sweat the details when it comes to how powers work, especially in the X-Men universe, but also in all comic books and comic book movies. The answer to every question is that the writers ignore logic and basic science and simply do things because they think it would be cool. Evolution doesn't work in reality the way it works in comic books, and these movies. Most real mutations are either negative (like Alzheimers or Down Syndrom or cancer) or minor (like eye color or hair color changes). There is no discernible. Technically, we are all mutants. DNA has a tendency to have replication errors when cells divide, more so with exposure to radiation or certain chemicals. If you try too hard to find logic in the details, you won't be able to enjoy the film.

The only reasonable explanation I could give as to why Jean had to go outside to save them from the flood is that she knew there was something "off" with her powers and didnt know if she used them if they would put everyone in danger (being so close and confined inside the plane) she knew she could save them but also didn't know if she might endanger them by being around them.

From the beginning of the film, Jean felt that something terrible was going to happen. With that ending, it implied that she was referring to herself and her powers. It's been pretty clear since that fight at the Statue of Liberty in X1 that she's changed. Jean became more powerful and that was basically what she feared. So she chooses to drown herself in this water to protect everyone from her powers.

In the comics, Cyclops eventually had visor triggers in his gloves. The Fox movies always had Scott doing that stupid visor salute every damn time he took a shot. Here's hoping that the Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot will rectify this. Not to mention about a half dozen other things that need to change if they want to do the character right. Cyclops is cool.

Jean probably could have held the water back from inside the ship with full force, allowing the X-Men to get the Blackbird up and running. But, to answer your question without spoilers, they did it to set up something in the next movie. Also, unrelated to any of the films because they never get into it, Rogue and Nightcrawler are actually siblings. And Mystique is their mother. Or, more specifically, I should say that Mystique is Rogue's mother, and Nightcrawler's father. That one was a recent comic retcon, but considering Mystique is a shapeshifter, it makes perfect sense. Edit: When it comes to telekinetic powers, I've always assumed the more things one is controlling, the more strain it outs on the mind because they lack focus on one specific thing. The power itself is virtually limitless with high enough focus. Also, in recent comics, there is no love triangle. Because they have since become a throuple. Which may or may not tickle your fancy, because you hate love triangles.

Mutant abilities and attributes are genetic. And given the length of the human genome, the seemingly endless possible combinations of DNA sequencing, and how dominant and recessive genes express themselves, the variations of mutant powers are just as widely diverse. But because blood relatives share similar DNA, it's possible for someone to inherit powers that are the same or similar to their mutant parents or for mutant siblings to have the same or similar powers. That's not a guarantee though. Just as the color of hair or eyes can be different from your parents or siblings, your mutant powers can also be different from theirs too. You can also be born from mutant parents or have mutant siblings but not be a mutant yourself. In the comics, Mystique is Nightcrawler's mother, though this movie makes no mention or reference to it. Both are mutants, but it seems that the only trait Nightcrawler inherited from her was blue skin. His father is also a mutant named Azazel, whom has a prehensile tail and the ability to teleport, so Nightcrawler appears to have got those traits from him.

Apparently Stan Lee and the gang decided to take a short cut instead of continuing to rack thier brains coming up with origin stories by saying that due to evolution a portion of humanity developed a mutant gene which gave them powers As for this movie you have to realize that some of the storylines were covered and spaced out through multiple comic book issues and usually gets cramed into one movie in these cases

I get what she's saying about how there should be multiple mutants with the same powers (and there are ones that are close) but I've always justified that by looking at humans in general. There are billions of us and we're all technically unique. Even identical twins aren't actually identical at a molecular level. From that viewpoint it would make sense that no other mutant is quite like Magneto or Wolverine or Nightcrawler. I agree that it's a bit of a stretch.

While it's far to complex to discuss at length here, the basic reason there aren't multiple mutants with the same powers is that nature always moves towards entropy/diversity and then natural selection chooses the most useful mutations through many, many generations... trouble is that usually takes very long timeframes. Since mutants with the X-gene have mostly only been around since the 20th century (yes, there are exceptions comic lore nerds), there hasn't been nearly enough time for natural selection to work. And besides, it's WAY more fun when there are tons of mutants with a wide variety of crazy powers.

You keep saying there aren't mutants with the same mutation. That's not true. Nightcrawler got his teleportation ability from his father, Azazel. And his blue skin from his mother, Mystique. Also you have Jean Gray who has the same abilities (mostly) as the Professor. Just at times she is weaker or more powerful, depending on the timeline. Wolverine and Sabretooth have the same mutant abilities, and Yuriko aka Lady Deathstrike is in that same category. You got Mystique and Morph that are shape shifters. One of Magneto's children has his abilities.

This movie is the best of the trilogy, ya def need to rewatch by yourself to go thru the details but it can be a little confusing at first. The next series is awesome with the new cast.

Jean CHOSE to go out that way just like Jesus CHOSE to die on the cross. She didn’t have to die to save them, but she needed to TRANSITION for other reasons.

Also, it's explained, kinda, in the comics that Scott's eyes aren't just lasers. They're gateways out of an alternate non-Einsteinian dimension of near limitless power. The eyes are the only apertures to or from the Punch Dimension, so the swirling energy is focused through those little holes, making them extremely powerful.

23:52 I always wondered about this, If this was true wouldnt it mean Mutants would be like colourblindness. Meaning it would more likely occur in Men as if it was X linked then men only have 1 copy where as women would need to two faulty (mutant) copies.

The overall message that was being made by the X-men was racial equality but using mutant characters. The defining attributes of mutants are characters that are born with their powers while super humans are characters that are enhanced by artificial means. Some of the characters such as Captain America and Hulk could possibly be argued that they were mutants but are considered super human. This also applies to the Fantastic Four where they were exposed to the radiation and got their powers. But Reed Richards and Sue Storm from the Fantastic Four got married and had kids their kids were born with powers this makes them mutants. The problem with the movies is that Fox only had the rights to use mutants not super humans. This limited the scope of the movies.

The reason why this one seems to be all over the place and rushed was that they tried to put too much in to the movie and not focusing on establishing the quality of the movie not that the movie was bad it’s just that the people making it were trying to put as much content as they could into it.

or because this is the second movie and establishing who most of the characters are is no longer required so the pace moves faster only slowing down enough to establish the new villain and his motives and the new mutants introduced which werent that many.

good stuff Stef. Yeah I think there are some probable plot holes in these early films of the franchise or one could simply call to suspend disbelief and not look for logic in certain plot points. Either way, they are fun films and IMO, get better as the franchise progresses.

When u get done with the X-men movies I think u would enjoy the tv shows/tv series. There more than just one, u can watch them in release date order or whatever one u vibe with first. X-Men: The Animated Series (1992 - 1997), X-Men: Evolution (2000 - 2003), Wolverine and the X-Men (2008 - 2009), X-Men mini series (2011) & X-Men '97 (2024). I think theres also a Animated movie that was done in the late 80s. thank u for the content, much luv
