One of the most devastating things for my Protestant bias was realizing how completely dishonest my side’s scholarship was in dealing with the canon. Total propaganda, easily refuted and just parroting myths

Ditto, that was the "first domino" to fall in my departure from Protestantism (it was kind of a tie between the Canon of Scripture and Sola Scriptura). ACTUALLY reading what the early Church Fathers said IN CONTEXT and not just "quote mining".

The doctrine of the Communion of Saints is derived from many Scriptures, including I Cor. 12, Eph. 4, Heb. 12, Rev. 5 and 8, the Gospel passages recording the Mount of Transfiguration encounter with Moses and Elijah, Luke 16, 2 Maccabees 12, etc. All of these passages reinforce the reality that we are all One Body in Christ-- whether we're on earth, heaven, or undergoing purgation. Where in Scripture are we told that when believers die, we are no longer part of Christ's body, don't know what's going on, and cease being pray intercessors for our brothers and sisters still on earth?

@Freeman-ub3lj What Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, or Oriental Orthodox, thinks blessed Mary mother of God is dead? That lie started with the reformation or in islam or judaism after it rejected Christ and it's religion ended with the temple building's destruction. Was Lazerus dead? Jesus said he was sleeping. Ours is a God of the living. Even in your abridged version of the Bible, you find no reason to think Mary is dead. Why are you not calling her blessed? All generations will call her that. For those that would like an additional rebuttal for Protestants who bring up St. Jerome's "rejection" of the Deuterocanon. St. Jerome was called out for this by St. Rufinus in his work "The Apology of Rufinus, Book 2". 32 "Perhaps it was a greater piece of audacity to alter the books of the divine Scriptures which had been delivered to the Churches of Christ by the Apostles to be a complete record of their faith by making a new translation under the influence of the Jews". 33 "Peter was for twenty-four years Bishop of the Church of Rome. We cannot doubt that, amongst other things necessary for the instruction of the church, he himself delivered to them the treasury of the sacred books, which, no doubt, had even then begun to be read under his presidency and teaching. What are we to say then? Did Peter the Apostle of Christ deceive the church and deliver to them books which were false and contained nothing of truth? Are we to believe that he knew that the Jews possessed what was true, and yet determined that the Christians should have what was false"?

I know we try to be as christian as possible to people like Melissa and Huff; but they have access to the same information Gary just presented. There is something in their behaviour which draws them away from the truth and towards the untruth. So glad someone like Gary and the other great Catholic apologists are starting to call them out on that. It may seem trivial to some; but there are souls and eternal salvation at stake here too.

If it had been the Catholic Church that was as inconsistent as to whether the apocrypha were scripture, the Protestants would be quite enthusiastic to use it as evidence against the apocrypha. But when it turns out the inconsistency as to whether the apocrypha are scripture came from Protestant reformers, we're just supposed to overlook it, and pretend Romans 3:2 lists 66 books in the Bible.

@@DRJoe100 The Early Church WAS Catholic. And the Catholic Church is responsible for the New Testament canon and forming the Holy Bible at the Councils or Rome, Hippo and Carthage in 382,393 and 397 AD. Here is some evidence to support my claim about the early church being catholic. Ignatius of Antioch: In his letter to the Smyrnaeans, written around 107 AD (for reference, John the Apostle died around 100 AD.) Ignatius used the term "Catholic Church" to describe the universal church. He wrote, "Wherever the bishop appears, let the people be there; just as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church". Polycarp of Smyrna: While Polycarp himself did not use the term directly, his disciple Irenaeus of Lyons, writing in the late 2nd century, referred to the teachings of Polycarp and used the term "Catholic Church" to describe the universal body of believers. Clement of Alexandria: In his writings around 200 AD, Clement of Alexandria used the term "Catholic Church" to distinguish the true church from heretical groups. He emphasized the universality and unity of the church.

Actually you are wrong and have never actually read the documents, showing a little snippet of that Jerome quote without it's full context is pretty dishonest making you a liar There is no record of any discussion of the biblical canon at the council. The development of the biblical canon was nearly complete (with exceptions known as the Antilegomena, written texts whose authenticity or value is disputed) by the time the Muratorian fragment was written. The main source of the idea that the canon was created at the Council of Nicaea seems to be Voltaire, who popularised a story that the canon was determined by placing all the competing books on an altar during the council and then keeping the ones that did not fall off. The original source of this "fictitious anecdote" is the Synodicon Vetus, a pseudo-historical account of early Church councils from 887.

@loulasher there's a difference when someone studies a video, wrote down his answers, and when you get an interview with someone face to face. Why can't he go on a big platform and see if he remembered everything. Has he ever gone to a Muslim and asked why Jesus wasn't crucified? The answer is no. Your mate likes to put down other Christian who try their best to defend the faith.

@EricN571 well asked him if he could debate him and see who would stumble. A big difference is when someone else interviews you. You will forget most things because you don't know what is coming. Ask your mate to go or a big platform and see if he's all knowledgeable about everything.

The Scriptures were written by the apostles of the Lord Jesus. What is the seal of an apostle or an authoritative author? (Acts 1:21-25) That is the difference between what we, the church, consider to be inspired by God, or not. The 'apostles' of the apostles are not considered to be authoritative because they were not the apostles of the Lord Jesus. (2 Peter 3:2) Otherwise, where would you stop? They also contradict what the Lord Jesus taught, i.e., the intercession of the saints, the perpetual virginity of Mary etc... Jesus commissioned the apostles, not the apostles of the apostles, to write and observe what we all know to be the New Testament today. The Lord is using Wes for His glory, stop getting in the way, or you'll end up getting in the way.

Mark and Luke weren't Apostles, yet their works are included in the canon. Clement wasn't an Apostle either, but Paul recognized him as a co-worker [Philippians 4:3] and his letters were read in the Early Church. Many considered them Scripture. However, Clement's letters are not included in the canon. This point was raised by Cameron Bertuzzi in his video "The One Question Every Protestant MUST Answer" on Capturing Christianity. Also: 1. Where in the Gospels does Jesus command the Apostles to write down all of their experiences? Answer: He doesn't. 2. Where in the Gospels does Jesus hand over a list of books [the canon]? Answer: He doesn't. 3. Where in the Gospels does Jesus tell His Apostles that everything to be believed must be found only within the canon? Answer: He doesn't. Finally, it is entirely plausible that the Good Counselor [the Holy Spirit] is guiding Gary to respond to Wes. Why? Because Truth matters. Wes is spreading incorrect information. It behooves people like Gary [those with the platform to do so] to correct him. Perhaps, you shouldn't get in his way?

Protestants are the ones who by teaching salvation by faith alone and Sola Scriptura contradict Jesus clear teaching, because Jesus rejects both Salvation by faith alone and also once saved always saved over and over again and He never said "If you have doctrinal discrepancies go to the Bible alone", because He knew from all eternity what we can see clearly now: Sola Scriptura is satan´s favorite tool to divide protestentism in hundreds of denominations. And the Bible does not contradict Mary´s perpetual virginity as even protestant reformers admitted and the Bible does not contradict intercession of the saints either, what the Bible condemns as a work of the flesh is division (Galatians 5:22) and protestants have division in its DNA.

@@HenryBonesJr Firstly - Did you not at all read what I had written about what the church considered to be an apostle or an authoritative author? Mark and Luke were not 'apostles,' but they certainly would have qualified as apostles. For example, Joseph called 'Barsarbas' was one of two men that could have qualified as an apostle because of the fact that he 'accompanied' the apostles of the Lord from the "beginning [of] the baptism of John to that day when He (Jesus) was taken up from [them]". (Acts 1:21-25) Now these were just two men (including Matthias) that they proposed to take the place of Judas in and among the 120 disciples that were gathered together that day. There could have been others there also that could have qualified as apostles too as per Acts 1:21-25. So what am I saying? Luke and Mark could have qualified as apostles - that's why they are in the New Testament. And they were certainly witnesses of everything from the baptism of John up until the time the Lord Jesus was taken away into heaven because of their own accounts. Secondly - What does Paul recognising Clement as his co-worker have anything to do about him being an apostle or an authoritative author? I'm telling you that we, the church, know what is considered to be authoritative because of the fact that the authors of the New Testament were apostles of the Lord Jesus or indeed could have qualified as such - i.e., Mark and Luke, Barsabas. 1 - How do you know Jesus didn't command His apostles to write down what they had witnessed? Just because they didn't let us know that Jesus told them to 'write everything down' doesn't mean He didn't command them to do so. And how does that address what I am trying to address? 2 - How is this at all addressing the points that I have raised about who is and who isn't an authorised author of the New Testament? Why would Jesus write down the New Testament if He has His followers (His apostles) doing it for Him? This argument is not addressing anything. 3 - Again, the reason why we take the New Testament as it is, is because it is a book written by the apostles of the Lord, or indeed men who could have qualified as apostles (Luke and Mark). If we take your logic, where would you stop? Why shouldn't I or whoever write more books that could qualify as canon? This, again, does not address anything but shows that the New Testament stopped with the apostles of the Lord. You conveniently did not address that fact that the 'apostles' of the apostles taught what Jesus did not. Where did Jesus or the apostles teach us to 'pray to the saints in heaven?' Where do they say that the saints are in heaven? Paul teaches us that the dead in Christ will be raised when the Lord 'descend(s) from heaven.' (1 Thess 4:16-17) Moreover, where do they teach us that Mary was a perpetual virgin? These are doctrines that you believe in, not because they have been taught by Jesus or His apostles, but because you do not know where to draw a line.

Another individual Protestant pope making accusations on what's inspired by God. I guess I miss the verse where Christ said to hold off on inspired books until 2025 until I send some one into a KZbin comment section to let you know ... Forget the church I left you and that still stands.... Sad Protestant thought process. We are Christ church the Catholic church we have the church given to us built on the apostles.
