The nonchalance of "bible christians" and Sola Scriptura adherents in discarding scripture never ceases to amaze me. Realizing the means and reason for omitting and now even disparaging these holy scripture helped me realize the utter lack of integrity and authority of the protesting sects and leadership. It's akin to blaspheming the Holy Spirit. I do have a copy of the 1611 KJV as well as the Catholic RSV and NAB. We're so blessed to have options today and great defenders if truth lime Gary and William, Jimmy Akin, and ao many others.

Josephus is a total nightmare for the canon. The fact that he quotes 1 Maccabees, Sirach, Deutero-Esther & Daniel goes way against the modern Rabbinic Jwish grain. Josephus also rejected Ezra-Nehemiah for 1 Esdras and a version of Nehemiah that we no longer have copies of today. Lastly he kinda tip-toes around Ecclesiastes & Song of Songs whether they are canon. I'm just surprised Josephus placed Job among the Prophets.

I cant give an exact quote but there pretty much was a Hebrew cannon. Josephus mentioned the number of books. We know the deuterocanonical books were written during the 2nd temple period.

1 enoch comes off gnostic to me. It has contradictory stuff in it proving it should not be the word of God. Paul quoted pagans when they said something true but that doesn’t make the rest true. My Ethiopian copy has giants 5,000 ells tall so that is supposedly 7,500’ tall. It is fairy tale stuff if you ask me. Maybe someone wrote a novel in 200 BC. People will find millions of manuscripts from AD 2000 a thousand years from now should Jesus tarry and think all kinds of stuff is true that are movies, people’s opinions, stuff from cults, and so on.

I love it, but to play devil’s advocate: by Sirach speaking of Elijah interceding “at the appointed time,” it’s referring to the belief that he will come back on earth? (the quasi-Messianic “spirit of Elijah”, which was fulfilled by John the Baptist; also possibly referring to him being one of the two witnesses in Rev)

Great video. I've done this kind of research as well. Often times, I will look up footnotes by Schaff, just to make sure I understand the context of his opinions. There are limits though. Sometimes I wonder whether the primary source I have is actually a good version of the text. I presume all the stuff on New Advent checks out. But sometimes, I'm not so sure. And then, when you have to dig really deep, and get into the internet archives, and you are looking at obscure images, things are even more tentative. I'm not a scholar, so who am I to know. And so that is where the secondary sources can come into play as being helpful. They may be more aware of manuscript traditions then I am. I mean, new advent does have some Dionysus of Alexandria in it. Eusebius does as well. I was looking up versions of the Mileto's works on the Pascha that appears to be available online, but I have no way of knowing it is really legitimate.

For those that would like an additional rebuttal for Protestants who bring up St. Jerome's "rejection" of the Deuterocanon. St. Jerome was called out for this by St. Rufinus in his work "The Apology of Rufinus, Book 2". 32 "Perhaps it was a greater piece of audacity to alter the books of the divine Scriptures which had been delivered to the Churches of Christ by the Apostles to be a complete record of their faith by making a new translation under the influence of the Jews". 33 "Peter was for twenty-four years Bishop of the Church of Rome. We cannot doubt that, amongst other things necessary for the instruction of the church, he himself delivered to them the treasury of the sacred books, which, no doubt, had even then begun to be read under his presidency and teaching. What are we to say then? Did Peter the Apostle of Christ deceive the church and deliver to them books which were false and contained nothing of truth? Are we to believe that he knew that the Jews possessed what was true, and yet determined that the Christians should have what was false"?

Also Romans 1:20 is from Wisdom 13:1.
