I just noticed, but @ 2:24 through 2:26 you can actually see the tanker-car start to warp. At first I thought it was a trick of the light but you can see on the left side horizon right next to the ladder there is a dark spot (probably a tree) and it gets covered by the ladder itself, indicating that the structure is beginning to bend. Had to watch it a few times as I thought I was just seeing things the first time. For a follow-up, they should have tested to see if they could reform the tanker using C4.

I looked this up to explain to my friends and family what an implosion is like, after the loss of the Titan submersible took place. This is what happens when you have about 1 atmosphere of pressure difference. In fact, the gauge is minus 23 inches of mercury (inHg) when the implosion took place. If we do some math we can calculate that this is about 0.778 atmospheres (bar) of pressure difference (not even 1 atmosphere). Now assume that the Titan submarine was at a depth of about 3200 meters (320± bar) when the implosion occurred (1 hour and 45 minutes into its descent), that means the pressure difference compared to this video was 410 times greater (320/0.778). So imagine this video but 410 times as worse... it was a quick death for the people on board of that thing.

Not only that, but the rapid increase in pressure also increased the temperature meaning anything flammable inside ignited and anything non-flammable gelatious substance(flesh, brains, organs) liquified and boiled. All in less than a blink of an eye. Not to mention the rebound of the implosion resulting in an explosion and cavitation. There is nothing left of those people.

@NorwayVFX
@NorwayVFX Жыл бұрын
Yup, the problem with the Titan was the carbon fiber composite construction. If they used titanium for the whole thing then the metal would be able to move and flex a little without taking damage. But with carbon fiber the material will weaken and form small cracks and imperfections as it is stressed. It performed several dives without many problems but at some point that composite material was bound to fail, and it did.

@@e14ph Well its not really long enough to turn a body into dust or ash. The outer layer will get charred by the temperature of the compressed air, then the shattered carbon fiber composite mantle will crash into itself, turning the bodies into meaty paste. Another morbidly curious case that did the opposite was the explosive decompression of the pressure chamber on the Byford Dolphin Rig. Human Error caused a depressurization from 9 atmospheres down to 1. 3 Divers were instantly dead because their blood boiled away while nitrogen bubbles expanded, ripping their bodies apart. One more diver that was halfway through the inner door when it happened had his body forced through a jammed outer door by the escaping air, fatally dismembering him. NEVER FUCK WITH DEEP SEA PRESSURE!

The problem is 1 Atmosphere i like around 14-16 PSI. Doing it in a desert below Ocean level might have helped but the ones that do implode are usually because they hauled corrosive materials that eventually made the walls really thin. Implosions are not sucking but the air on the outside pushing in. Last point is the tank is designed to hold the pressure in not to keep it out.
