at 2:42:00 where Chris talks about miniature combat, that's where I would use Index Cards to show concepts and zones for players to still feel like they're moving around.

So awesome! If possible you should consider scheduling a sequel one-shot with Chris. I want to see you all take on the Ghoul Knight after he’s reborn from his Lazarus cauldron.

I’m so down. I’ll get him to add it as the sole stretch goal at 250k. Should be there in a day or so. (But I’m seriously done for it. Maybe when they start shipping

It’s great to see these games on action, it really helps a lot in seeing the games played. Without your episode on bones deep I think I wouldn’t have had the confidence to just pick up and run it

There is a progression system in this game? It seems very cool!
@PlusOneExp Жыл бұрын
There is! But you gain glory and unlock higher responsibilities and access. Stats and abilities stay the same
@Ghintech Жыл бұрын
So what does glory and higher responsibilities do? I like the overall aesthetic of this game but I enjoy it when my character changes in one way or another and having access to more abilities. I like watching my characters grow in some way. So does glory just change the missions you go on or does it actively affect your character in some odd way?
@PlusOneExp Жыл бұрын
@@Ghintech At a certain point you gain holdings that bring in additional elements. It's a mix of fictional positioning, access to resources, and access to quests if I recall. The quickstart may have more information on this and is a great read.
@metallsnubben Жыл бұрын
@@GhintechYeah direct character abilities basically don't change at all, here's what it says about glory: 0 Glory - Knight Errant Worthy of leading a Warband 3 Glory - Knight Gallant Worthy of a seat in Council or Court 6 Glory - Knight Tenant Worthy of ruling a Holding 9 Glory - Knight Dominant Worthy of ruling a Seat of Power 12 Glory - Knight Radiant Worthy of the City Quest And then what "warband", "holding" etc. are is expanded later on I definitely agree that it feels cool to have a unique path that your character took, and here it's like you get That Thing at the very start and that's your lot (as far as mechanics, you have a list of unique scars you can get in battle and stuff) But I can kinda get it when it's both the "OSR expendability" kind of deal, better to get a cool toy _now_ and get to use it even if that one never made it to lvl 10, AND also the "Pendragon expendability" (or more like uh... "perishability") where in a multi-session campaign your character will actually age and eventually die if you make it that far, so you might want to find a successor to take up your mantle

I came here to see the amazing imagery of the book translated to a session, looking to hear the evocative text of the book, the Arthurian feel, the epic and fast-paced combat, swings and honourable jousts… but the first knight (I refuse to call them by the first word) died not epically, not heroically, not in a blaze of glory, but because of a simple, not thematically mechanical rule of the game. I’m sad, really sad.

I hear designers are sustained by the sorrow of players, but who knows if this is true.

You could consider it as a prologue narrated by Joe Abercrombie. Jokes aside, I'd say that the "all or nothing" mechanic of the Coin Knight depends of the narration of the GM (and the player) to be an epic moment. Being practically the first action of the game, the character didn't have time to gain interest to make neither of them care for it.

i mean its the players fault
@odiram10 ай бұрын
I know what you mean, but I don’t feel like it’s the mechanic’s fault on this one. The fact it has a 50/50 shot of just killing you indicates it’s meant to be a last resort for situations where you’re facing death anyway, not the first thing you do against the first encounter in your first session. This was like a player choosing to try to leap over a lava pit instead of looking for any other way around.
